Service was very good, food is good, but way overpriced. You are paying for the view. We went here on our last night on Maui. We ordered the "Fresh Flown Fried Ipswich Clams" appetizer knowing we could see how well they did compared to all the clams we eat in New England. What we got for $17.00 was about 8 clams (airfare must be expensive!) They were really poor. overcooked, and also tasted very "fishy" which good clams never do! Nothing like the clams we get at home. We think they tasted like the clams came out of a can from Ipswich. Our bad for ordering them with high expectations. The Crab Mac and Cheese was delicious but at $30.00 for Mac & Cheese, even if lots of crab, still seemed expensive. Ditto on the fish & chips. Other than the clams we did honestly enjoy the meal. Our waitress was very good, and we had probably the most perfect table with a view of the ocean etc. The dining room was very crowded, and noisy. The family nearest us were really enjoying their Pizza, so that might be a consideration for those who want to try it. I wouldn't rule out going back, based on the service and view; but, I would be more discriminating with what we ordered off the menu.

This place has a great reputation and our food was fine, but the restaurant was crowded, noisy, and just not what we had expected. Other reviews and photos had made it seem (to us, at least) like a beautiful oceanside venue to meet friends for a delightful dinner and conversation. Instead, we were crowded together in a happily boisterous crowd with lots of kids. A happily boisterous crowd with lots of kids is a good thing--it just wasn't what we were looking for.

Crowded at sunset time. Tight quarters. Enjoyed our dinners. Had coupons for $ off which helped.
Brunch was good and much less crowded.

Wow, what a dinner. The staff were all so nice, friendly, and efficient. The bartenders were the BEST of the BEST. Our server could not have been more nice, and on top of everything. We would have come back just based on service, but then the food arrived. Everything was so fresh. The sauces were amazing. Our two daughters (16 and 20) said it was one of the best meals they had every had--the highlight of our trip. My husband and I both enjoyed our dinners immensely.

We arrived as the tropical storm hit, and we were afraid they might close and cancel our reservation, but everyone acted like they were happy to see us. The place was packed when we arrived. Well worth a visit. We are already trying to figure out how we can fit in another visit before we leave--and our dinners are already planned out. Looks like we'll be sneaking back for lunch the day before we head back home from our trip.

There were multiple birthdays being celebrated while we were there. One woman was celebrating her 100th! While I wouldn't consider this a romantic destination--it is more relaxed than fancy, based on the food and service I would want to come here for MY birthday or other celebrations as well.

They have an extensive gluten free menu.

We had a sunset dinner at Honu. The view was wonderful. The parking in the area is somewhat limited but we found an open space just to the north in a gravel lot. The outside of the building can be a little misleading. The service was very casual, friendly and very helpful and prompt. We met several of the wait staff during our visit and they were all wonderful. We We ordered seafood chowder, salads, and crab mac and cheese. The food was very fresh and hot. Later in the week we ordered take out. We plan on visiting again this year and will definitely make Honu one of our evening excursions.
