We were a little worried when we were driving thru the neighborhood and thought OMG what did we get ourselves into... But then we pulled in all was well. We had a 2 bd 2ba unit near the front. The rooms were good sized. We have a family of 5 and we were not crowded at all. The units appeared to be well maintained and seemed newly redone. The kitchens were stocked well with equipment and everything worked. The bathrooms were large and had enough room for two people to get ready at a time. The grounds were very well kept and the pools were clean too. The location is very good as Lahaina is the jumping off point for most of the activities on Maui and Aina Nalu is just 2 short blocks from Front Street.

The only negatives I can think of are the lack of a dining table (there is a bar with two stools) and the boneheads who set off their rent a car alarms when getting up to go to Haleakala at 2AM (happened 4 out of 7 days there). Parking is $15/day. I have seen others saying don’t pay and park on the street. No way, parking is big business in Lahaina and chances of finding free parking everyday is zero.

Recommendations- the restaurant Penne Pasta just around the corner has great food and some of the best prices on the island. We used the local grocery store Foodland. We found the prices ok if you use their club card which we was definitely worth the 30 seconds required to fill out the form.

Bottom Line- If you want a beachfront room with an outrageous pool and to be pampered this place is not for you. If you need a good clean centrally located base camp Aina is the best.

Right off the main strip of Lahaina (near Front Street) - only a block or two away from the Banyan Tree downtown. Lots of food/shave ice/shopping nearby.

The hotel itself is very clean and well maintained. The room we had was an efficiency but it was nicely decorated and enough room. Again, you can't beat the location.

The staff was incredibly nice - the concierge was helpful and when she wasn't available the front desk helped us with eating places and other things like that. I would definitely recommend going to the Old Lahaina Luau if you go - it's only a mile away on Front Street. Also for a burger to to Cool Cats and Aloha Mixed Plate for good food - all within walking distance!

I would definitely stay here again - even though there was a $15 a day parking fee - it was easy to swallow since the location/room were exceptional.

Everything went smoothly until it came time to pay the phone bill. A few phone calls to my Maui friend, who uses a CA registered cell phone, cost $149 . Where as the local population can call him and it costs approx. 20 cents a minute. If you do the math, I talked for over 12 hours. No itemized bill could be produced. Mgt warned me to be more careful next time. Outrigger didn't respond to my written complaint, but told the owner that it is their right to charge this much. I also stayed at Ka'anapali Shores and the phone service was satisfactory.

We stayed in the Aina Nalu from June 5th-10th 2010 and loved it! We rented from an individual owner on VRBO.com and had a great experience. The complex is beautiful and well maintained. We had a 2 BDRM/2Bath unit which was beautifully updated and clean. The unit also had a washer/dryer. The Location was fabulous, 1 block to the Maui Bus which you can take to the overpriced Kaanapali resort area for only $1. and 3 blocks to the grocery store. We did not even rent a car as it wasn't necessary, the Aina Nalu is perfectly located in Lahaina. This location allowed us the flexiblity for some of us to head to the beach or some to stay behind in Lahaina and browse the shops and restaurants. I was disappointed however, that there wasn't a patio or lanai, but other then that, It was perfect!

Just returned from a six-night stay in late May at the Aina Nalu with hubby and our best friends. We were given a two-bedroom, two-bath upstairs unit away from the highway construction noise on the opposite side of the complex.

Check in was easy and we experienced no "attitute" from the front desk agent whatsoever. And no ants, either. The condo was hot and stuffy when we arrived but after turning on the two bedroom air conditioning units, all had cooled off within a half hour.

The positives:

-- Great location two blocks from Front Street in Lahaina. Just a quick walk to the ABC Store for odds and ends in the Wharf Shopping Center across from the banyan tree.

-- Next door to a Catholic church from the 1860s. We went to Mass Sunday morning and it was a wonderful experience with the local choir and all windows open, scents of all the fragrant flowers outside filling the air inside. Delicious Hawaiian sweet bread sold outside the church after the service as a fundraiser.

-- Great pool at a perfect temperature. Not overly crowded and was always able to find a lounge chair when needed. Only used the infinity pool. Did not venture over to the kidney-shaped pool.

The negatives:

-- No dining table for four people. We like to play cards and weren't able to as there was no table.

-- I was kicked out of the pool for using a floatie. I hate lying out and just baking in the sun. C'mon....there was only me, a young father and his son in the pool. And it's a big pool. Beware the private cabanas, however. First day at the pool we settled into one and within an hour, I was covered in bug bites. Was bitten while sitting in the pool pavillion, as well. I should have brought bug repellent and they need to spray!

Would we stay here again? In a heartbeat. The Aina Nalu has a lot of bang for the buck. The beds were incredibly comfy, the grounds are beautiful (especially the fan palms) and its location can't be beat. Don't miss the Warren and Annabelle show at 900 Front St. I treated hubby and our friends (I'd seen it before and knew how special it was) and we all laughed so hard our sides hurt for two days!

Hope to visit again soon.
