Very Confortable and Great Price

Review of Royal Kahana
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 26, 2017
We rented a one bedroom condo with an ocean view, Clean, air-conditioned, equipped kitchen, washer, dryer, etc. We enjoyed the view, the pool, the proximity to everything in Lahaina. Good beaches, restaurants, activities. The Royal Kahana is in the middle of things so a car is a must.
Date of stay: September 2017
Room Tip: Request an ocean view and be on your balcony to enjoy the sunset. Beautiful.

We stayed in room 917 and we thoroughly enjoyed it! We didn't have really high expectations after reading the reviews and it is not as expensive as other properties but we loved it here. It is good value for money, right on the beach. The beach is small but still really good swimming and awesome sunsets. Heaps of parking available, outdoor and under cover. I loved having a kitchen in our studio, so we could make our own meals and not eat out all the time. There are also BBQ's to use in the pool area. The laundry in our room was super handy too. It isn't a 5 star property, it is definitely a 3 star.

The staff at reception could have been nicer. They never smiled or friendly when I asked a question or throughout check in/check out process. They were actually quite rude.

Apart from the staff I would recommend staying here if you want decent accommodation without paying a fortune.

I just flew home after a wonderful week at this resort. I have to say that after booking and reading all the negative reviews I was apprehensive about my stay at the Royal Kahana that I booked through Costco but was surprised and thankful for the wonderful condo that we stayed in. Condo 810 is the best that anyone could ask for as far as view and room for a party of 4 ... parents and two young adults. Everyone was wonderful from the time we checked until the time we left. Chip was awesome for giving you a plethora of adventures that he highly recommended. We were never bored and busy the whole the week. If you like 4 star resorts with all the amenities this is not for you... but if you are family just wanting a nice place to kick back and relax then this is a wonderful place. There is coffee, general store/gas station, McDonalds, and Maui Brewing in walking distance across the street so the location is great if you want a quiet stay. Also like most places in Hawaii where you have to pay for your car you don't here which a plus. The beach is trying to come back and there was people walking and playing in the ocean out front the whole time as well as turtles. I would definately stay here again.... I didn't want to leave the view. Wish I could of brought it home with me. Thanks Royal Kahana for making my vacation with my family a memorable one.

Room tip: Ocean front two bedroom is the way to go... we booked a one bedroom and were upgraded upon arrival to a two bedroom with 3 bathrooms.

As the title says, this was our third trip to Maui and third stay at this hotel. This place is really hit or miss. First time we stayed, it was ok. Second time was a bad experience and third time was so so. It really depends on what room you get. The room on this trip was recently remodeled and looked nice. Being an ocean room view on the 8th floor, we had a good view from our balcony. However, the way the bed and TV were set up did not make any sense. The bed was facing away from the ocean. If the TV and bed were flip flopped, you would wake up to a nice view of the ocean. One thing to note about this hotel is that while it is on the cheaper end of hotels, you can sometimes expect to get the clientele that comes with a cheaper place. We often came across people that have no either no class or respect for anything. For example, a large family letting their children swim in the pool butt naked. When the family was confronted about this after an hour, the fathers response was "Well anybody can pee in the pool, even me". Ummmm your an adult right??? Also people spitting on the floor all over the place, diving into the pool and so on.

One last thing to note about the hotel is the beach / ocean. Yes the beach is under restoration. If you plan on swimming in the ocean, be forewarned that you will likely end up with a lot of cuts and scrapes. Once you get about ten yards out, it is nothing but rocks. I would be floating with my feet touching nothing and then I would kick a rock. I ended up with a ton of cuts and scrapes from the rocks from the knee down. So did the wife. If we had kids and brought them, I would not have let the swim in the ocean at the hotel. The nice thing about the beach though was that there were not a lot of people there.

We just returned from eight nights at the Royal Kahana and had a fabulous stay in our ocean view studio. Although we usually book through online booking sites, we booked directly through the hotel and our rate was incredible.

Our room was clean, well-kept and updated. We had a phenomenal view of the ocean and could see turtles from our balcony. We were able to walk out to the small strip of beach in front of the hotel and walk a few steps to the left to access a good swimming beach.

The unit was well equipped with dish detergent, paper towels, shampoo and toilet paper and the kitchen had everything we needed to do all the cooking we wanted to do on a holiday. I was pleasantly surprised to see it was stocked with salt and pepper, sugar packets, a packet of coffee and a few tea bags, so we were set for our first morning!

The staff was friendly, accessible and awesome! I would return here in a heartbeat!

Room tip: upper floors, ocean view

We booked through Costco and did research before coming so we knew more or less what to expect. Here are some things to note before you go:
1. This is not a resort, if you are looking for the resort feel look elsewhere.
2. The property is a little older but everything we saw was very clean. Our room was great.
3. Housekeeping is not included.
4. The beach in front is small, pretty private. But you'll probably go to other beaches.
5. You should get a car if you plan to stay here.
As long as you're OK with those things this place is great. We booked a car, stopped at Costco and stoked up. The studio had everything we needed, large fridge, utensils, pots, pans and washer/dryer.
It was a great place to be, staff was friendly especially Afu.
We hardly used the pool or beach, we enjoyed exploring the areas around. It made our experience in Maui very affordable.
