As we getting off the Pacific Whale Foundation cruise it began to pour buckets so my wife and I ran for the nearest restaurant. What a lucky find. We sat up stairs and watched the rain come down and enjoyed a great lunch and a beer or two. The food was good and the beer was cold. Our waiter was johnny on the spot and very entertaining.

The crew of a whale watching excursion boat highly recommended Captain Jacks and they were right on the money. Excellent food, varied menu including fresh caught fish, and all at a great value for Maui. It's not fancy or slick, but lots of wharf style atmosphere. Second floor open air dining room looking out at old Lahaina is lots of fun. Often has live local music you can hear as you walk down Front Street. We will be dropping back in whenever in Lahaina.

We were on shore for the day, arriving by cruise ship. The best part I can say about Captain Jack's is the great location. Right near the old banyan tree square. The restaurant is on the second story of a building with open sides. The sea breezes blow right through. The traffic from Front St and the passing tourist scene is right there for you to enjoy.

My wife's spinach salad was rather sparse and unappealing. My grilled shrimp salad was better with some large, spicy grilled shrimp on a sizeable bed of greens. My beer, a local IPA, was very good.

However, it had a real touristy feel about it. Can't imagine any local coming by to have a bit. I might be wrong but the vibe was all wrong.

Fresh air seating. Great service and good array of choices (for a pub style place). Front street in downtown. Out of the sun if it's hot, and covered for that afternoon monsoon flash.....Argh!
