Wow - Sheldon's restaurant in Lahaina was definitely worth the trip! (It's past a little industrial area so you think you are going to the wrong place!).

We had wonderful drinks - I had an Asian pear mocktail (I couldn't drink alcohol at the time ) and it was light and refreshing. Others chose local beers and some sparkling sake.

For small plates you must get the kimchee! It's delicious. We also got the Nahul which was a variety of marinated veggies. The miso Salmon was quite tasty. The mushrooms were ok - needed a little more flavor (or salt). The steamed buns were delicious as was the crepe. Both were the stars of the meal. We also tried the pad thai which is definitely different than your typical PT (much more flavorful) and the Singapore noodles.

Our one 'complaint' was we thought that there would be more gluten free options with the noodle dishes (i.e. they could make the dishes with gluten free noodles). Unfortunately that was not the case. So while there were a few small plates the GF folks could have (3-4)- there were only 2 noodle plates they could have. I guess it's better than none!

Second visit to Star Noodle, got there just in time to get a seats at the bar overlooking the kitchen. This place is very busy, waits can be long. We shared the Tempura shrimp, Brussels sprouts and Pad Thai...three different dishes than our first visit and they were all a hit. Excellent flavour, for desert we shared the Malasadas, once again a great way to end a meal....service was fantastic, can't go wrong here.

Well, if you get your expectations way up from the hype, you might be a little bit disappointed, but just take it as is, Star Noodle is a fine option for lunch or dinner. Our group of seven was able to share many of the dishes and most were very good. The prices are reasonable, especially for Maui. Atmosphere is very casual, and the service was fine. Among the smaller dishes, we all liked the pohole salad the best. Tempura shrimp were huge and tasty, but could use sauces and dips on the side. The noodle dishes we tried were fine - Singapore noodles may have been the best - most flavor and best texture. We were told the pad thai was supposed to be amazing. I liked it, but maybe I've been lucky to have lots of good pad thai in the past, as this pad thai holds its own but didn't blow me away. The only noodle dish we tried that I wouldn't recommend was the Look Moore Fun - a chow fun noodle that lacked flavor and texture, but was partially redeemed by a delicious black bean sauce. Garlic noodles went over well with everyone. The malasadas were a tasty dessert, and easy to share. Our server was great about explaining dishes and making suggestions, and handling the needs of a tri-generational group.

Our party of 9 people (two families with 10-12 old kids) were there last night to celebrate Farher's Day dinner in Maui. Some folks in our party are strict vegetarians... We ordered multiple noodle and chicken dishes and some we asked to swap out other meats with vegetables. One of the more expensive dishes were the Hot and Sour noodles which we asked then to swap out the meats with veggies. To our dismay this dish arrived as noodles and bean sprouts floating in boiled water mixed with the red hot sauce they pack with carryout. Their house special drink tasted like made with rubbing alcohol. The chicken disk was nothing more than a breaded deep fried thigh piece served on fancy garnishings. The only decent dish was the padthai which they fixed after first mistakenly making it with shrimp versus chicken only. If your cooks (hate to call then chefs) aren't creative enough to think outside the box to make a decent mean then shame on you.

The food alone gets a D because Panda Express and KFC in a mall food court have better offerings. Add to it a 2 hr wait and the whole experience gets a bad F grade.

We loved Star Noodle. My only complaint would be that it's a small restaurant and gets very crowded. It does not have a relaxing atmosphere, but the food is delicious and fresh and for Maui it was very reasonably priced. We would definitely recommend it but be prepared for a crowd and use your GPS for sure. As many other people have mentioned it is hard to find and without your phone GPS you may drive in circles for a while.
