“Forget the other snorkel trips, this one blows every other away!”
Reviewed January 2, 2011

I am so glad we went on Hula Girl compared to all the other snorkel trips in Maui! The crew, ship and food were more than we bargined for! Unfortunately we had very choppy seas and most of the people on board got sick (we were one of the lucky few that are able to tolerate a rocking boat)! The crew were amazing as they went around with ginger ale, pita chips and a scented lavender oil to help everyone keep their motion sickness at bay. Funny part was once the captain spotted whales right by our ship, everybody forgot about their sea sickness! LOL

I am so glad we went and next time we visit Maui, we plan to take this tour again!

We joined the 5 hour sail/snorkel cruise that departed from Kaanapali Beach at 9:30a in September 2010. The catamaran was huge and there were only 20 or so other guests on board, so we each had our own seating and room to lounge. It wasn't packed in like other sail boats we saw. It was super clean and seemed brand new.

En route to Honolua Bay we saw dolphins and turtles. We were the first catamaran to dock at the bay (followed by Gemini Charters) and the friendly crew fit us for snorkeling gear. We were given a brief tutorial and even floating devices so we didn't have to exert too much energy while snorkeling! The reef was beautiful and the waters unbelievably clear! When we took a break from snorkeling, our made-to-order lunches were ready for us on board. I had an amazing pesto chicken sandwich and the hubby had the daily catch. On our way back the crew lifted the sails and we had a gorgeous sail back to Kaanapali.

Don't waste time comparing all the outfitters out there - Hula Girl is the way to go!

“A+++ Great time not to be missed!”
Reviewed November 7, 2010

We decided on going on this trip based on the recommendation of a co-worker of my husband.
Best decision we made. The crew, from the cook to the owner were fantastic. They made everyone feel comfortable and worked well together. The catamaran is kept in tip top condition and clean beyond belief.
My husband and I were very impressed by the food. I posted a pic of my dish which was Szechuan Shrimp. I was not only impressed by how good the dish was but the presentation is something you would get at high class restaurant. Kudos to the chef!
I can't say enought good things about this trip. Relaxing, gorgeous scenery, extremely accomodating, offered to take pictures of the guests, very comfortable surroundings.
If you are in Maui, you should make this a must do.

“Great sunset/dinner cruise”
Reviewed September 30, 2010

What a great time! the Hula Girl is a gorgeous catamaran with plenty of room for everyone. We basically just planted ourselves in the back and watched Maui as it passed by. Saw sea turtles, the gorgeous coastline, and the suset. All while drinking a nice pinot noir and just relaxing. We'd do it again for sure!

“Fun but Best for Snorkelers Rather than Scuba Divers”
Reviewed September 14, 2010

Top notch boat for cleanliness, spaciousness and cuisine, although the trip is bit pricey. We took the day sail from Kaanapali to Honoloa Bay in September (low season) and there were only 20 people on a boat built for 3 times that number. They cruised slowly to the Bay, spent nearly 3 hours in the anchorage and came back under sail.

Don't take the boat for scuba diving unless you doing the non-certified explore scuba program. They use small tanks and only fill them to 2800 lbs. We were the only people scuba diving and one of the crew had to guide us as an extra duty. He took us on a fairly long swim on the bottom along the base of a small wall to the turtle cleaning station from the anchorage. I use air more rapidly than most people so we had only a few minutes viewing turtles (pretty neat) and a then he took us straight back along the bottom across the boring sand. We should have gone there and back on the surface to maximize bottom time in the reef. This might be an OK trip for the explore scuba program which are shorter dives anyway. The water is shallow and visibility pretty good. However, we saw more fish at other shore sites such as Ahihi Cove.

The bay looks like it is good for snorkeling, which is on your own without a guide. The boat stays there plenty long enough for people to spend hours in the water and still have a leisurely meal before departure. The on board food is excellent and quite reasonable. We had the Okapakapa (snapper) and it was fresh and delicious.

The sailing is leisurely and mellow. Speed is adjusted down to fit the schedule. Not adventure sailing! This trip emphasizes amenities and comfort.
