Honua Kai is the perfect place to stay! We rented straight through the resort and had no problems whatsoever. I called the front desk once to request assistance with resetting our air conditioning and within 10 minutes, we had 2 different maintenance technicians to assist us.
Front desk check in was a breeze! All staff in the resort were friendly and eager to assist.

I've read several reviews about how crowded the pools and beach were, but I found that to not be true at all.
Of course my trip to Paradise flew by in an instant, but I am eagerly planning for a return trip! I would definitely stay at Honua Kai again and will certainly recommend to all other travelers!

Room Tip: We enjoyed the view of the mountains! 300 acre coffee farm off to a distance. My father in law had a studio which provided partial view of mountains and ocean, but mostly showed the empty construction lot.

Once again, our visit to Honau Kai did not disappoint! This was our third time to stay at the resort.
However, this condo was rented thru an owner and not the resort. Unit 609 was terrific - well appointed, clean and the view cannot be believed. We were able to see the whales breaching all the time! Another couple stayed with us and all four of us had plenty of room - both privacy and joint entertainment. The amenities of the resort are really good, but the best is Dukes! From drinks the evening of our arrival to Eggs Benedict the day of departure, all great!

Its awesome having a two bedroom condo with two older kids (11 and 13). It had boogie boards, beach chairs, cooler, umbrellas, etc. already here. Washer and dryer proved invaluable. Great to have coffee shop downstairs for quick breakfast, or Duke's right nearby for breakfast, drinks, lunch, etc. Snorkeling just a 5-10 minute walk down in front of Westin villas was awesome, saw sea turtles! The resort pool was warm coming out of the ocean. And best of all, Kimmy at the activities desk was fantastic -- she set us up for all of our activities while on the island, and everything she recommended was great (and typically at a discount). We went on helicopter tour, whale watching, had a great sunset dinner at Merriman's.... all with Kimmy's help. Make sure you ask for her!

This is our first time in Maui. The Honua Kia is a beautiful, clean resort. Dukes is expensive but excellant!

Be sure to reserve your lounge chair early. People place towels on the chairs early in the day. It's difficult to find chairs, especially around the warm pool.
If you prefer the ocean, it only costs $20 for an umbrella and $10 for a lounge chair.

As for condo views, the best vies are ocean and partial ocean. Resort view isn't really worth it. Our view was basically the parking lot and looking at another condo complex. I would probably go for the mountain view, at a lower cost. Only problem is the head from the sun in the room.

One negative thing is the sofa bed. It really Sucks. It best for children. If possible go for a two bedroom or a hotel that has two comfortable beds! These condos are privately owned. It's up to the owner to improve things!

I would come here again. It is definitely a beautiful well kept condo complex. A kids paradise! Lots and lots of kids!

Best hotel I've ever stayed in and pictures on Expedia are completely up-to-date. More than a 4*, stunning hotel by Interwest (Canadian) - uses Canadian designer and style to the rooms, so I even felt more at home! Can't wait to return. Beautifully appointed with modern furnishings, granite countertops, Kohler bath fixtures, Bosch kitchen appliances and even Aveda bath products. Floor to ceiling windows that fold out (and you can screen in to keep the birds from visiting). South tower is newer (~3 yrs) and furnishings are a bit newer than the north tower (although still great). Only downside was that I was on the 7th floor of the south tower facing the mountains. You hear the highway and road outside the resort, and more cute was the rooster clucking at 5:30am every morning. I would choose an ocean or resort view next time. Beach was fantastic, soft, yellow sand and great waves. Don't forget to visit the farmers' market (Mon Wed Fri mornings) a couple blocks from the hotel. Great grocery store across the street. Favorite lunch/dinner places: for great fish tacos (very casual atmosphere) The Fish Market a couple blocks from the hotel, Sansei for sushi and Leoda's for pies, great salads and the swordfish sandwich was to die for! A two-hour whale watch (went with Captains (something) was unbelieveable and so was the bus tour to the road to Hana. Friday mornings there is a market in front of the Westin which is worth checking out. Oh and the new (partially full) outlet mall in Lahaina. Don't forget your nylon shopping bag as many shops in Maui don't offer bags.

Room Tip: Mountain view is noisy but ok if you like that and awaking to a rooster! Ask for the south tower and a resort or ocean view
