“Loved this Resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2014

This resort was absolutely wonderful, from the room to the property to the employees. Our room was absolutely beautiful, it was not a hotel room but a mini apartment. There was a living room area and a seperate large bedroom. It also had a full kitchen a dishwasher and a washer and dryer in the room. The resort provided us with dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent and several packets of coffee all in a very nice woven basket that we were allowed to keep. The resort refilled these items daily as needed. The room also had a very large lanai with a glass door that completely folded open. The staff at the resort were absolutely wonderful and very accomodating. We used the valet parking daily which was free, except for tipping the Valets who were extremely personable and very accomadating. This resort is associated with it's sister and they share pools which consist of a normal pool at our resort and a interactive pool several feet from this resort which has a lazy river and a waterfall and water slide. The Dukes Restaurant sits on this property and is open for Pupus or lunch and dinner along with drinks. This sits right on the ocean and is great for whale watching and walking as the walking path runs right through this property. The ocean is a little rocky in this area, so you may want to use some water shoes when you go in to the water.

We stopped and stayed for two nights while in Hawaii for ten days. Since I work with the resort back on the main land, I wanted to see it for myself. The place is beautiful, the people were friendly and the food at Duke's was great. Since I do not have kids traveling with me, I thought there were too many at the pool for me to relax. I would good back and like to stay longer.

Our condo was ocean side on the 7th floor. We watched whales breaching every morning for two weeks! Amazing! The condo was great with everything we needed. The kitchen was well stock so we often BBQ dinners.

The beach access was good but we found better beaches down the way. The location was a little out of the way which resulted in a few car trips. There is a boardwalk to Whalers' Village but that is a bit of a walk. Dukes was handy and a great place for happy hour. We did not use the pools but the hot tubs were great on rainy days. Dukes also serves drinks at the pools.

The resort is a has two large buildings. Family rented in the other, newer building and they also seemed very happy with the facilities. Overall: 4 outta 5!

we literally just arrived home from a 2 week stay and I had to write a review. it was my husband, myself and our two kids (2 & 8 months old) staying at the honua kai. we have always stayed in Honolulu so this was our first time staying in maui.

we rented our ocean view from kaanapali beach rentals. our view was amazing! it overlooked the main pool and dukes and over the ocean where we could see whales jumping on a daily basis.

the rooms (we had a 2 bedroom) were a great size for our family. nice living area, 2 full size baths and a nice kitchen area. the best part of our room was the patio. since we were a corner unit we had a wrap around patio and the doors open and fold all the way around so it is like you don't have walls! you get a nice breeze all day! we loved it!

the resort is great. the pool with the water slide was having issues so that was our only downfall. with a kid wanting to go up and down over and over it was pretty chilly in that water BUT it was refreshing for the hot days to use that pool.

the store in the resort I loved. mostly all organic selections. their sandwiches/ baking/ breakfasts they offered were all tasty and healthy feeling. their coffee. yum! I am a huge coffee drinker and their iced lattes were amazing! I craved them all day!

the pool servers were fantastic and friendly. the slide 'patrol' were nice too! as were the cleaners we ran in to!

this resort had a good family feel too it. we felt welcome and not at all like we shouldn't be there with kids unlike some other resorts. didn't find it overwhelming with all the kids there as they have the three pools.

don't have anything bad to say about the resort other than I would've like to stay longer! haha

We stayed here over a year ago and I am still thinking about our great vacation... I have read the negative reviews and cannot believe they are talking about the same place.

Staff: Outstanding! when we arrived with a truck load of luggage and groceries (after stopping at Costco) the concierge immediately was there helping us unload, we did not have to do a thing. We checked in fast and were up to our room where the staff again helped us unload everything.

Room: Probably the nicest that I have stayed in and we do like to pamper ourselves. The furnishings were great, the beds and linens were heavenly! and two nice big bathrooms in our two bedroom suite. We were also lucky enough to have a room with a double lani so we ate outside every night. We went to make some slushies for the kids on the first night but our blender had a small broken part. We called the desk and someone was at our room in literally 15 min with a brand new one in a box! That impressed us. Washer and dryer were a bonus.

Grounds: Stunning! We used the pools a lot, our kids made great friends and played each day in the pools. I did pass the adult only pool every day but never ever saw kids in it - we were there at a busy time also. The waterside was a big hit.

Poolside service: We never ate in at Dukes but we did often order drinks when at the pool and on a couple of occasions ordered food by the pool, food and service were just fine!

One more praise for the concierge: We had this tip from friends who had stayed there before, we asked them if they had any beach toys we could borrow and they did. Families sometimes buy toys and leave them behind and they have a room at the front, if you ask they will get you some and be courteous and bring them back when you are done for someone else to enjoy. They also loaned us some boogie boards for when we went to DT Flemming beach. No questions asked! Great service.

Only con for me: really didn't even matter in the end but we never swam in the ocean in front of the resort while we were here. We were either too entertained in the pool or had other plans. It looked like it was a little rocky but probably good for snorkelling.

Loved the walking path to black rock! We stayed for 10 days and loved going into Lahania - Friday night art walk was really interesting. We did a whale watching / snorkelling trip with the kids and also the Hana trip with a hired driver. We went boogie boarding at DT Fleming beach and loved snorkelling at the Kamole 3 beach. If you are going to complain when staying in this paradise, I think you need to relax and enjoy yourself more.

Highlights: Great location, clean, amazing interiors, awesome grounds. Dukes is right on the property and is the best place for food and drink.

Areas for improvement: It would be nice to have one of the three pools be adult-only. All the pools had screaming kids in them, so it wasn't very relaxing. Overall, not a very friendly staff, especially at the front desk. Definitely not a "resort" feel -- it should just be called Honua Kai Condos.

The worst part of the whole experience was the pool service. I DREADED getting towels. Instead of just handing you a towel, the staff would pressure-sell you into buying overpriced sunglasses and suntan lotion. After I declined purchasing lotion (because I already had some from my dermatologist) the woman literally raised her voice and said, "FINE! Go ahead and get skin cancer! That's what dermatologists want to happen to you!" (what? seriously, just give me a towel)
