The Honua Kai definitely exceeded expectations. We were in a 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom condo with a partial ocean view and it was absolutely spectacular. The lot next door is vacant so we could see the sunrise over the mountains to the left and the sunset over the ocean to the right. The kitchen was ultra-modern (even if we only cooked once) and the shower in the master bathroom was probably 3 times the size of mine back home. The grounds are very lush and beautiful, with two pools (one with waterfalls and a waterside.) There were plenty of chaise lounges on the pool deck, on the lawn, or available on the beach as well. There is a Dukes restaurant/bar right on the premises so it's very convenient for dining or grabbing a Mai tai. Housekeeping did a great job and even left nice notes for us. I would definitely recommend the property for anyone wanting a condominium on Maui.

Room Tip: If you can get a room that faces south, you will have more privacy since other units won't face...

Stayed in suite 209.. great layout and what makes this project special from many other condo's the large patios that are accessable with a 6 panel bi fold nana wall system that creates an indoor - outdoor living feeling. Beach is suitable...has snorkle reef as you enter into the water that is also a turtle feeding area...but to the south of the property the beach becomes wider and runs into the water. If you are traveling without kids...you will want to stay in the units that are closer to the adult pool where the noise of the children playing marco polo are less of an issue. Services of spa was great and reasable for hawaii. Since this is a condo...the kitchen is state of the art open concept with all bosch appliances. All also has washing and dryer. A good family 4 star expierence.

We loved everything about the resort. Over the top in every way. The resort, restaurants, beaches & staff were great. We went to the orientation meeting to see what might interest us. Sara & Cassidi were so helpful. They answered all our questions & helped us plan some outings. We did 3 excursions and all were better than expected. We took their advice and did the Road to Hana trip with a driver. Our guide was the best. He was born & raised in Hawaii & had tons of knowledge. We were so thankful to have had him as our guide. Not to mention my husband got to enjoy the day not having to drive.

I stayed at Honua Kai for 1 week with family who rented a two bedroom unit for 2 weeks. This beachfront property is large with two wings forming a U-shape, has beautiful gardens, great views of the ocean, frolicking whales and depending on the location of your suite views of Lanai and/or Molokai. Other than the pools and a few activities, the complex does not put on the same range of activities that you would find at other resorts - not an issue for us but something to be aware of if considering this property.

Staff were friendly and the parking valets were always ready to help out with loading and unloading the car. Having Duke's on the property was a bonus - great for drinks, snacks (try the ribs!) and breakfast.

There were some maintenance issues - ripped carpet in the hallway and soiled carpet in the suite.

But be aware - this is a family property - there are lots of kids and they tend to take over the main pool, often well into the evening. With the pool being situated at the open end of the U, and the way that the sound traveled, there were many evenings on the lanai that were disturbed by the yelling and screeching. Management should consider restricting the main pool to adults only in the evenings.

We stayed at this hotel for four nights this February. The hotel is beautiful. We had a one bedroom partial-ocean view and it was perfect for our family of 4. Our balcony overlooked the property and pool. We could not see a lot of the beach or ocean due to trees on the property, but we had a great view. There is a small grocery store on-site, which is convenient but expensive and busy. A regular grocery store right across the street is a better place to stock up. We ate breakfast in the room but didn't really do any cooking. The pool was great - our boys loved it. They do have poolside service, but it can be slow. Food & drinks came quickly once ordered, it's just a matter of tracking someone down. There were plenty of pools and then the beach right off the property to keep everyone entertained without feeling overly crowded.
Every day we would see whales and sea turtles right from the beach. I would recommend this hotel to anyone - particularly families, and would definitely stay there again. I rated cleanliness a 4 only because housekeeping only made it to our room one out of our 4 days there - not sure why. I did not use the spa or have breakfast on site, so I had no ratings for those.

We spent 2 weeks at the Honua Kai Resort this year with many family members and friends to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Many times during previous stays on Maui we have walked past the Honua Kai and wondered what it would be like to stay there. For our special occasion we splurged and I am so glad we did.

The resort itself is beautiful and immaculately kept. The 2 bedroom suite we rented was clean, spacious and even though it did not have a direct ocean view it did have a fantastic 1200 sq ft lanai with a great view of the West Maui Mountains. The suite had plenty of space for 5 adults without us tripping over each other and all the furnishings and bed linens were of a high quality.

We rented from the owner directly and he gave us what I considered a good price for our 2 week rental.

We have stayed at this property twice. Once 2 years ago by a private rental and this time we booked directly with Honua Kai. Both times were great stays. The property is beautiful and the condos are clean and new. If you want to stay on Kaanapali Beach and need a condo this is the place to stay.
