“Perfect from Day one!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013

We arrived at the Honua Kai and entered into the spacious lobby overlooking beautifully lush landscaping and the stunning blue of the ocean! From that moment on, we felt relaxed and surrounded by the beauty of Maui! We rented through KBM Hawaii and met our representative in the main entrance to be escorted to our one bedroom unit. We had a "partial ocean view" but we felt that it was a wonderful mix of the amazing grounds as well as the ocean. We had stopped for groceries on our way to the resort and were thrilled to see that the kitchen was fully equipped for any type of cooking and was outfitted with beautiful finishings and appliances (the washer and dryer were a great plus). The beach in front of the resort was never really crowded (which surprised us as we expected crowds over the Christmas holidays) and the resident sea turtle was such a delight while snorkelling! Although the beach was sandy and relaxing, we did find that there were many rock formations near to the shore which did make for some challenges to swim or walk out into the water comfortably without water shoes. We visited several other beaches, such as DT Fleming and Big Beach, that were sandy far out into the water (although it should be mentioned that Big Beach is not great for small children due to the large waves and strong currents, which suited us for body surfing). Amenities at the resort are fabulous for a condo resort and Duke's Restaurant provided us with a superb beach front dinner on Christmas Day! The pools were very popular for the children but our son, who is 12, preferred the fun of the ocean. An onsite gym was also appreciated and I easily found a treadmill every time I arrived for my workout. The location of the resort was also great as it was just a short drive to Lahaina and we found it easily accessible from the airport. It was also easy to drive to the locations of the activities we had booked during our stay. If you are not renting a vehicle, it is a good 40 minutes drive from the airport and most activities seemed to be based out of Lahaina, Maalea and Kihei - which, other than Lahaina, are not extremely close. If you are looking for a laid back holiday with a luxurious feel and are not concerned with having room service or constant onsite services - this is definitely the place to go! We are already planning our return visit for next year and will stay here again for sure!!!

The trip was great but not amazing. The resort itself was great, the problem is the location gets rain and clouds and wind every morning and that was a disappointment. Tons of gluten free options all around which made it awesome. The pools had kids everywhere and kept my kids entertained. My son loved the kids club. You had to deal with towel cards which was annoying to have to keep track of with kids and pool service to get drinks and food in pool took forever!

Overall it was great but not sure we would stay here again!

My husband and I stayed at the Honau Kai the first week of November. Our rental was booked through the resort itself. I requested the Hokulani tower and a very high floor. They accommodated both requests to our delight! Checking in could be a bit confusing because if you rent directly through them, you do not know 100% which tower you will be in. I chose the Hokulani tower because of the Aina Gourmet Market downstairs . We loved the cinnamon rolls for breakfast. The location seemed perfect to us! We walked the boardwalk and loved to sit on the lawn by the pool and people watch. We did eat at Dukes our first night and I have to be honest, I wasn't all that impressed. The grounds of the resort are immaculate! Our room was spotless and housekeeping was very nice. The bed was very comfortable and linens seemed to be high quality. Since we had a kitchen, we stopped at Safeway and got us some groceries for breakfast, lunch and snacks. The coffee provided in our room was delicious! We went downstairs and bought an extra bag to take home. The location is great! Snorkeling right off the beach, I was surprised how rough the water was though. Rentals for equipment could be made by the pool. We have our own, so we only visited them for towels. All in all, great location, wonderful time and great memories were made! We are planning a return trip to Maui, back to Honau Kai in the summer with our kids.

Room Tip: Request a higher floor, this insures a better view. Request Hokulani Tower, if you want convenienc...

My daughter and I stayed at the Honua Kai for a bit of rest and relaxation and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. From the beautifully appointed fully self contained suites to the rambling pools in the beautiful grounds it was really a total relax. Having Dukes restaurant in the grounds were they served breakfast lunch and dinner and everything in between was an added bonus as it was well priced and served a wide variety of food. Even if you stay at the resort I would recommend booking in for the restaurant for dinner as it is very popular.
The walkway linking all the beachfront resorts is wonderful as you can stroll and dine at any of the resorts on the beachfront .

Room Tip: The rooms all seem very good. Ours faced the landscape gardens at the front of the property and it w...

This was our first trip to Hawaii. Staying at the Honua Kai was a very good decision. We had a two bedroom resort view room on second floor. The room was beautiful, spotless, had a high end kitchen, and washer/dryer. The laundry machines made it possible to pack light and we didn't come home with piles of dirty clothes. The concierge services helped us sort out what to do and when and then arranged it all for us. The hotel staff to a person were very cheerful and always greeted you with a smile. If I lived in Hawaii I'd have a perpetual smile on my face too. The pools at the hotel were great. Many different designs with children in mind. They must use ozone to sanitize the pools since there was no chlorine smell at all. Having a very good restaurant on site and a small grocery store capped it all off. I couldn't have been more pleased with our stay.

Room Tip: The one small drawback on our room…it was on the second floor and many of the rooms on that floor on...

Spent 10 nights as a couple at Honua Kai from December 10 - 20, 2013. The kitchen in the rental suite is very nice and a big perk as one can save a few $ on breakfast and lunches! Other positives include King bed, HD TV, full laundry, nice balcony, gym and underground parking. Negatives include dirty carpets, lot's of small bugs by the pool and the classic move of holding pool side chairs with 'towels n books' for hours... This place is ideal for family/kids as there is a kid pool area with slide etc... This is a solid place for couple as there is lots of activities to do, nearby by market/grocery store and good restaurants nearby (ie: Lahaina Grill ($$), Mermans ($$), Star Noodle ($), Fish Market ($), Ono's Taco's ($).

We just spent a week at a two bedroom condo rental at Honua Kai in the Konea building and it was awesome! Highly recommend to families with children as the pools are great for little ones. Plus you have Duke's Restaurant and Bar to eat and cocktails as well. The beach is great, a little rocky in the water but snorkeling right off the beach has lots of sea turtles which is amazing. The boardwalk is right out front hotel and you can walk forever safely even at night with a lighted pathway. Our unit was equipped with boogie boards, cooler, beach toys, BBQ tools, beach chairs, umbrella and more! It was great as we didn't have to bring or buy a thing. We would rent here again in a heartbeat. The spa was also very good and has registered massage therapists so for those Canadians we have massage benefits can claim with their provider!

Room Tip: 2 bedrooms are pricey but try to negotiate price if through realtor or owner.
