“Honua Kai is amazing”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

Honua Kai is the first resort that has been built on Kaanapali Beach in over 30 years. There are two towers, one is four years old, the other about 2 years old. The resort is extremely spacious and has tons of room to spread out. There are three pools, hot tubs, lazy river, pool slide. One water feature has a Koi pond and there is also a fire pit that is lit every evening. Honua Kai appeals to honeymooners, families and retired folks.
We rented unit 610 from Justin Brunold at KBM Hawaii. This unit is brand new and overlooks the ocean, it is a 2 bed/2 bath and is beautiful.
The units themselves are amazing. The kitchens are beautiful, with Bosch appliances and there is a Bosch washer/dryer in every unit. The dryer is unlike what most of us have at home in that it is ventless. If you wish to dry heavy items, I would recommend that you dry those in the dryers that are in the basement. There are also larger washing machines in the basement for your use.
The units themselves are much larger than most suites at the Ritz or Four Seasons and are priced at least half of what you would pay at a hotel for similar accommodations.
We stayed at Honua Kia in mid-February and yes, it was windy. But, there were high winds on all of the Islands this winter and our weather wasn't ideal, similarly across the Island chain this winter.
I prefer to cook than eat out, but Duke's restaurant is very handy for breakfast/lunch/dinner or just drinks. Duke's staff bring you food/drinks while you are at the pool.
Honua Kai is the best resort on Maui right now in terms of amenities and value for money. There is a gym on site, but we preferred to walk the boardwalk that will take you all the way down Kaanapali beach with it's amazing views. It is a 2 hour walk roundtrip and we just loved it. As you are walking you will see that there nothing nearly as nice as Honua Kai!
Mahalo and Aloha!

Room Tip: We stayed in Unit 610 which had wonderful South views all the way to Black Rock.

We had the pleasure of staying at this resort, and were not disappointed. From check in to check out, we were served well. Comfortable rooms with every amenity. We had a one bedroom and it was very spacious with a huge deck- doors open from wall to wall. Full kitchen with everything you'd need to eat in room. Bathrooms stocked with Aveda bath products. Beds were awesome! TV in both bedroom and living area. Washer, Dryer and water heater. Water pressure excellent! Quiet! Close to the beach. You can walk forever! Great dining at Duke's-breakfast,lunch and dinner. Did not travel here with my family, but lots of families staying here, with alot of activities for children to take in.Quiet! There is a reason it is #1 on Trip Advisor!

We booked very last minute over Christmas and we were lucky enough to get a one bedroom apartment here.

The apartment we stayed in was on the 10th floor with a mountain view, we really wanted a sea view but they were all full. The facilites and standard of the rooms are very good, new and up to date. We were travelling wth our two children ages 6 & 7 at the time who slept on the sofa bed in the lounge, plenty of space and the room service/housekeeping was excellent. Our room was managed by the resort, many others are privately owned.

The pool area is super for children, two or three pools and slides. I have to say that the loungers were very uncomfortable though! Beach is very lovely, a nice boardwalk too for walking, jogging. There is a nice store across the street which was convenient.

We used the kids club once which is well run, you pay extra for this. Dukes restaurant was convenient but many more choices in Lahaina and whalers village.
It is a super property, I wish it was in whalers village as you would have more shopping and eating options nearby.

Maui is a great island with lots to do, highly recommended

We plan to go back to this resort, sea view this time though!

Room Tip: Book a sea view

Honua Kai is a fantastic resort. Wonderful ammenities, pools, beach and Duke's, the on-site restaurant is great, plus they offer pool side service

I rented a 1bedroom ocean view condo from a private owner-the Trinhs, and could not have been happier. The condo is fully stocked with beach gear and all you need for a home away from home vacation. The Trinh's are not merely "landlords", they're hosts. You will not regret it.

If you're hesitant to rent from a private owner-don't be. Here's a link if you're interested.

What a wonderful property for our honeymoon! We booked directly through the hotels website and we we very pleased with everything. I work in the hotel industry and I was very pleased with our room. We stayed in the smallest room in the hotel, a studio. We loved it! Very roomy for a studio. Top notch kitchen (loved having this) as we cooked a good portion of our meals. Services was above and beyond. Dukes was AMAZING and we are foodies. Need I say more. Awesome location!

As much as I loved this property I hate to say it but it was windy. Not anything extreme but it was annoying for sure, so please take note. I know the management can not stop the wind.

If you are looking for a resort that has everything this is where you should stay. As much as we loved the resort I do not think my husband and I will be back becuase there is so much to see in Hawaii that we did not spend time at the resort. The resorts beach was nice but there were other great hidden beaches with waves not fare away that were less windy, if you have a vechile.

All in all a beautiful 5 star facility.

Room Tip: Go for the studio! It is roomy!

Honua Kai Resort is absolutely beautiful. The view from the main entry is like a breath of fresh air. Condos are top quality. Worth every dollar we spent on them. We will definitely be returning ASAP.

My husband and I went for a weeklong vacation to Maui: stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and then left to Wailea Marriot for the other 4. (I wish we stayed at this hotel longer, as this hotel was so much better than the Marriot in Wailea. The only reason I would still go to Wailea- is because it is a different beach and a different location, but that is it! and I wish Honua Kai resort had their property in Wailea!) Do not take me wrong as both beaches are worth to see! Do not hesitate to book this hotel if you are going on your honeymoon, a family trip with children and parents or just needed getaway...! good for anything and anybody!

Beach: Amazing -Secluded- Clean! The hotel is ocean front! We took walks on the beach to the Whalers village. On the way you get a chance to see all of the other hotels properties and restaurants and I would say that our beach area was the best. It was not crowded as, for example, the Black Rock area, however you still can walk to all of the restaurants and hotels and jump from the rock if you wanted to! (we did and loved it!) It is about a 1.5-2 mile walk to the Whalers village shopping and restaurants.

Towers/Rooms: : Mountain View is as beautiful as the ocean view! We preferred Tower K (Konea, not the H- Holekani). We had a mountain view/ 1 bedroom.
Tower H: This tower is way too close to the highway, parking and unloading trucks every morning! Woke us up at 6 am with its backup siren! this is not a mountain view as you would get from Tower K! Here- it is a highway and a parking lot view. We had to move! It was extremely uncomfortable to move all of our bags again the next morning to an absolutely different tower!we needed a car, because those buildings are far away from each other. So dont repeat our mistake.
Tower K: The receptionist moved us to another tower. ( It was still a one-bedroom, but with a much bigger bath and a den) What a difference in views and noise wise!! Tower K is much closer to the beach and tucked in between the "golf courses-like fileds"- further away from the highway! What are the views!Breathtaking! We saw sunrises every morning and a rainbow from our bed! ur balcony overlooked a green golf like field with beautiful mountains in the background.
Amenities/Rooms: very neat, well designed, everything is new. Granite countertops, new appliances: dishwasher, microwave, dryer, washing machine, coffeemaker., oven, stove, beautiful lights, new pans, plates and other kitchen needs. It felt like home away from home, but relaxing and still a luxury hotel feel.

Hotel property: Beautiful grounds. Waterfalls, rivers and pools. The only thing- the hot tub was not very nice. It was kind of connected to the children's pool and kids were allowed to be in the tub. I am assiming that is why it was extremely chlorinated.. We did not go in there. Otherwise: beautiful poolgrounds and a nice restaurant on the beach.

I absolutely recommend this place and would go back in a heartbeat if we were to come back to Maui! The best and worth the money spent!

Room Tip: Towers/Rooms: : Mountain View is as beautiful as the ocean view! CHOOSE TOWER K!!!. We had a mountai...
