The site of the original church, founded by missionaries in 1862, was across the street and moved to its present location (once the home of King Kamehameha I's daughter, in 1909. Note the Hawaiian scenes on the altar and the Hawaiian Madonna on the panel under the stained glass windows.

Not far from the famous banyan tree and courthouse square, a peek inside this unique church is worthwhile. It is very open air, with sides having lauhala curtains for weather protection. It is classic church architecture, with an attractive sanctuary and traditional altar, a nave with nice wooden pews. Be sure to take a look at the historical photos on the back wall, sit and enjoy a moment of calm.

Beautiful and serene. We took time to attend a Sunday
service, and were pleased with the warm, friendly welcome
we received, and the pastor and helpers provided a good
experience. The doors are often open for anyone to come
in and sit for awhile, which is rare with negative things that
have been happening to churches lately.
