“Great property - Location can't be beat!”
Reviewed July 25, 2014

We just returned from a two week visit to Hawaii. Our stay in Maui was our last and the Sherton proved to be a lovely end to our trip. Right on the "Black Rock" we had a great view upgraded from on ocean view to an ocean front upon our arrival. We were on the first floor but this proved to be convient to both the beach and the pool. Our room was in the third building and I would suggest asking for an upper floor for a better view although we were very happy where we were. The beach and pool at this site were wonderful....clean and very accessible. We didn't have to fight for chairs at the pool as people come and go regularly. We got the mason jar deal for the tropical drinks which worked out beautifully. A 24 oz mason jar of your favorite tropical drink was $24.00 but all refills were $15.00 after that - and you could refill any time during your stay. It really was a good deal!

This hotel is expensive and we did not eat here because the prices were on the high side but there are many good restaurants in the area and we had some great breakfasts and lunches down in Whaler's Village (an easy walk). We also had many great choices for dinner on Maui

If you want a luxurious hotel with a great view and helpful staff the Sheraton is for you! It was well worth what we spent.

We would definitely stay here again and the Kanapali beaches can not be beat!

Room Tip: We stayed in the third building but the rooms in Building 4 also had great views of the ocean

Just returned from an eight night stay, 7/15-7/23. Fourth time on Kaanapali, first time in this hotel.

Plusses: Can't beat the location. We used to stay further down in Hyatt and Marriott and walk to this beach spot. To have it right out front is amazing. Pool was perfect temperature and quite lovely as it was like a meandering river with waterfalls. Staff was friendly. We paid a very low AAA special rate but were upgraded to ocean view rooms in building 3 (The centrally located building I wanted for convenience). Comfy clean rooms facing black rock. Comfortable bed. Convenient parking. At the height of summer tourist season, the spacious grounds and lawns allowed for a feeling of not being crowded. The kids loved the giant Jenga and Connect 4 on the main lawn. Luau was good fun and food and not stingy with the alcohol.

Minuses: Previous reviews stated that the on site restaurants were mediocre and over priced. They weren't kidding. It is hard to believe
a resort this size has such limited options. Dinner was okay, but should have walked to whalers village or gone to Lahaina. We spent our mornings having breakfast in whalers village, a 5 minute walk. One morning we were too tired, and ate on site. We weren't planning on getting the 29 dollar breakfast buffet, but everything on the menu seemed to cost 20-something anyway. It was not that great.
However the cliff dive bar at the pool complex never disappointed. And with a view like that from the bar...who can complain?

It is also interesting that a resort this size has only one shop. Maybe with whalers village so close, they don't bother?

I think the other resorts further south on the beach have to be "fancier" or try harder with super slides at the pools and such because their beach front is not that great and kind of rocky.

Their amazing soft beach, black rock for snorkeling (was really great - turtles abound) and sprawling grounds far outweigh any minuses, and will keep us coming back to this hotel should we stay in Kaanapali again.

Only one quick suggestion to managers if they review this: please keep the games on the lawn out for longer! An employee would whisk them away at 5pm daily. People only start to gather at that time for wandering around and to watch the sunset - perfect playing time.

Absolutely the best of resort's around. The beach is beautiful and the sea turtles are amazing. We ordered a picnic lunch from the hotel and sat on the beach to enjoy the sun and surf. The spa was nice. We had a couples massage and it was ok. I had a masseuse that was really good but the masseuse that my husband had was not so great. Everything about the resort was wonderful! Well worth the money. You feel like your home! We loved how everything was open and birds could fly in. We didn't have any problems with bugs.
The sun sets were indescribably! This is a place everyone should see!!

Excellent hotel! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in January and are headed back again for a future stay. The beach is beautiful and the staff were very hospitable. It is a beach front hotel that is well maintained.

Great property! Interaction with the Staff was a hit or miss. Kuuipo at the bell desk was awesome, anticipated our need for a late checkout, she called it in without us ever asking. Dined at Black Rock, the food was good, our waiter was nice and the view is very nice. Most of the Valet guys were really nice. So was the Room Attendant. She let me in after seeing my husbands leave the room. She saw me earlier & remembered I was in that room and was checking out. Had to do a final check, found a few items left behind in the room. Monica Concierge was friendly & helpful. Not impressed with the gum chewing agent at the Front Desk, the Valet who greeted us, "Hey Guys!" I was the first to walk over to the entrance. What happened to, ALOHA? The Engineering guy who did not want to change the hand held phone, the battery charge was low & needed to be changed. He made an excuse about getting recharged In the cradle. He finally did after I told him to change it the 2nd time. Tried to make an appointment at the Spa but didn't have my preferred time. The female agent did not offer an option of going to another Starwood Spa. I made my appointment at Spa Helani instead. I could not get the free WiFi. And finally, $35.00 for a resort fee?

Room Tip: All the rooms are very nice with great views

Good location, at the slightly less busy end of ka'anapali beach but still very convenient for all the local facilities. Lovely grounds, nice pool and good stretch of beach. Staff very attentive and efficient. Car park conveniently located. Overall a very good family resort. Our meal at the Teppan-Yaki Dan restaurant was first class.

We returned to this hotel for our second trip to Maui and loved it just as much as the first time. Its a beautiful place and a lovely hotel. This time we were in rooms set back further opening up onto a large grassed courtyard with lots of palm trees facing the beach. We had a room that could be divided off with a sliding partition which suited our family. Beautiful sunsets. The car park is good to park your rental. Its only a few minutes drive into Lahaina. For dinner we strolled down to Whaler Village some nights where there is a choice of good restaurants. I scuba dived at black rock again and my wife snorkeled, its a great dive with warm, clear water with lots of turtles and fish. The hotel service was good. They gave us a late check out. Highly recommend this hotel.
