Stayed at Plantation Inn 4 days in April 2012 with my wife. We are always looking for the small, quint places that give you a peace of mind, personal service and have a great location. If your looking for the same, look no further.

All built in 1989, but the look and "feel" looks more dated - not worn down though. Plantation inn has a nice pool / sitting / garden area with a hot tub. All you need, in a beautiful and quint location.

We stayed in room 10, ground level situated in the building opposite the main. A lovely decorated and spacious room with its own terrace just by the pool. Hardwood flooring and furnished in dark hardwood materials. A great room.

They serve a complementary breakfast from the Gerards kitchen by the pool. Fresh coffee/tea, juice, fruits and your choice of entree. A good start on the day. Best of all - mobile phone free area during breakfast:=)

Gerards is the "inhouse" restaurant, reviewed by many here at TA - and it its as good as they say, lovely food and very good service!

The staff is very nice, proactive and give you the feeling of "being home" and taken care of. Couldn´t ask for much more.

Location is a couple of blocks from front street - max 10min walk to all the commotion.

Anything we missed? That would be the in room coffee machine...:=) But thats a small detail.

Love the place, and will for shure be back!

Room Tip: All are unique in design - room 10 is tucked nicely away and beautiful decorated.

We stayed in the Pana'ewa suite, #20. It faced the back alley, where there are Hawaiian homes. There is no parking fee like most hotels at Honolulu, Oahu. Check-in was pretty easy, but a little confusing. There is about a $1 per day fee for using the room safe. The pool is heated. The room had a musty smell to it that never went away, but it is tolerable. The decor is on the older-side but workable. The tub plug was broken, so no baths. The bathroom is a little small but quaint with it's tiles, ceramic, wood and gold color. The suite had a room with a queen bed and nice large closet. The living room had a sofa bed, I think it was double or queen sized. The room and living room both had it's own a/c unit. The full kitchen was functional. The breakfast nook was a nice touch! Breakfast was very nice, and free. You can choose from a french toast, a bagel with smoked salmon, and more! Daily fruit is provided for breakfast as well. We had orange wedges the first morning, which I thought was way too plain, but upon tasting the fruit was delighted to find it was very sweet and juicy! Second morning the strawberries were also super. The inn is located just steps away from the action down the street. So it's very quiet at night. Overall: I'll be coming back again!

Room Tip: Breakfast is in the pool area, so if you are a late sleeper it might be too noisy for you in the mor...

Overall, this hotel was great: the pool area/hot tub was lovely and always pretty quiet, the room was comfortable and decorated nicely, staff was friendly, and great location.

Our room was in the building on the other side of the pool (not the building with Gerard's) and the lanai looked right out to the pool. The lanai had a loveseat, chair, and table and was separated from the pool area by some shrubery for privacy - very nice. The room had a refidgerator, ceiling fan, and nice, quiet air conditioner. The bathroom was a little small (but big shower), but had a vanity mirror with cabinet, and a few shelves and hooks to make good use of the space. The closet had a safe, but it uses a key rather than combination, and it was $1/day for use.

The pool area was quiet with a few lounge chairs and never more than a couple people sitting out. There is a patio with tables with umbrellas and chairs where breakfast is served. Breakfast if very good for an included breakfast, but a bit large and rich, in my opinion. There were five options to choose from, and these did not change each day. Also, coffee (very good), juice (probably canned), and "fresh" fruit" (my orange had a sticker from California...) were included.

We sat outside in the pool area and lanai in the evenings, and did get a few bug bites, so you may want to bring bug spray if you think it might be a problem. The courtyard/pool area is all fenced in and so not very windy, which might be why.

Location is good, but you will almost certainly want a car, which is why the free parking is nice. You can walk to front street, which is only a few blocks away, but is very touristy (crowded/overpriced), so we didn't spend much time there anyway. Also, you can't walk to the beach. We didn't find that this was a problem at all, because you can easily drive and park at many great beachs and restaurants, which are close by.

Staff was friendly and helpful, the property was clean and pretty, and overall we enjoyed our stay here very much.

This turned out to be one of our all time favorites. This is a place designed for couples -not children. The service is excellent as are the accommodations. Breakfast comes with and it is more than fruit and rolls - coffee/tea, selection of juice, fruit and a selection of mains such as french toast, yogurt and granola, eggs Florentine, croque monsieur, and salmon cream cheese and bagel. Actually my only recommendation would be a broader range of selections including some standard fare such as toast, scrambled eggs and bacon. The pool is beautifully tiled, set in a quiet garden surrounded by the two buildings that make up the inn complex. Our lanai (Room 15) with its comfortable wicker furniture became our favorite place to enjoy the end of the day with a cocktail. The room had a King bed, big TV (that was never turned on), a mini fridge (not minibar), free wifi, a desk and sitting area and a rather small bathroom with shower. There is free parking which is good because you can easily walk to Front Street and the Lahaina action in five minutes. If this is not enough to entice you, the inn has a sister hotel - the Kaanapali Beach Hotel (Next to Black Rock) where you can use their facilities, pool, towels restaurants, etc. if you need a beach fix. We did one day and enjoyed it. Your room key works at the beach parking lot next to the hotel - so free parking there as well. One last thing - the Inn shares one building with Gerards, an upscale French Restaurant (you get 1 $50 coupon which will barely make a dent in the bill) which has VERY GOOD food and service but is pricey. Try the Star Noodle place across the highway for an excellent and relatively cheap meal. It provides a unique dining experience.

We cannot wait to return to the Plantation Inn and highly recommend it for couples looking for a little quiet or romance but still close to the activities.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 15 second floor Lanai Room. It is a corner room (with King bed) so it is a littl...

We went with our kids, but my husband and I stayed here the last few nights to get away. It was a wonderful change from the resort, and a very romantic setting. The room was large, with a small empty frig, wood floors, a charming palm tree blade ceiling fan, a flat screen tv mounted to the wall and its own patio right from our room with wicker furniture. We walked out from there into the pool area, where breakfast is served. I would suggest a 2nd floor room if you want more privacy. The bed was very comfortable, and room 13 has a beautiful traditional quilt on it, a nice bathroom with a gigantic shower head, and a nice sized shower. The breakfast...oh the breakfast! Get the French toast! Awesome! Everything we had was wonderful there! The staff was great too, even packing us some bagels for us to go when we realized we had scheduled our whale watching during breakfast hours, which were 7:30 to 9:30am. A short few blocks away are all the wonderful Lahaina shops and restaurants. A few other words of advice; go whale watching in a raft type boat. You can get closer to the whales and are less likely to get sick. Don't schedule your bike down the volcano until you are there and check the weather. It is miserable if you do it in the rain. Splurge and go to Mamas Fish House in Paia, which is over by the airport. Lunch is cheaper than dinner but entrees are still $30 and up, but it is an experience you will never forget. The setting there with the ocean and palm trees can not be beat and the food is amazing! Aloha and have a wonderful trip!

Stayed for six nights in March 2012.
- staff were admittedly very friendly and helpful
- AVOID rooms in the main building - these rooms are affected by both street noise and (quite serious ie 11pm daily) noise from the restaurant. Especially the (supposedly premium) room 8 / luna suite where we stayed. Negotiate a better price if you do - we paid over $300 pn and it was definitely not worth it. The place is advertised as an "oasis" - ha!
- breakfast menu does not change day to day, and consists of microwaved product prepared in the restaurant the previous night. The reheated french toast thrill wears off quite quickly ..
- we were asked for an extra buck a day for the room safe. Guys, at $300 a day that's insulting - just include it in the room rate ok?
- this is from two people who are inclined not to complain much

A great place for couples. Breakfast is included and you are a block from downtown. The layout is small, but comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. We would stay here the next time we go to Maui.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool would be a little quieter in the early morning.
