Most sunset cruises are either too flashy, too cheesy, too expensive or too crowded. Gemini Charters is none of these. This is a cruise that you will actually enjoy very much, whether you are with your spouse, your kids or your entire extended family (as I was).
The boat is a large 60 foot catamaran that is absolutely spotless; looks like it just came out of the showroom. The meeting point is right at the beach of The Westin Maui; very convenient for anyone staying at a Kaanapali Beach resort. You meet the staff about 30 minutes before the starting time but if everyone on the trip arrives early, they are more than happy to start early. Fall and winter cruises start at 4 PM.
The crew will ensure everyone is there and then carefully let everyone climb aboard right from the beach (Wear sandals or flip-flops as you will get a little wet walking on and off the boat). Once on board, they introduced themselves, give a brief safety talk and then you're on your way. The light snacks are provided by the Westin chefs and included delicious pasta salad, chips and dip, pupus and chicken strips half way into the cruise. Unlike the island luaus, they will make you a proper drink. Since drinks are unlimited, feel free to indulge. (No blended drinks due to limited space).
The staff makes every effort to make your cruise an enjoyable one, constantly walking around ensuring your needs are met and you're having fun. You can hang out inside but it's so beautiful on the front, deal with the windblown hair and give it a shot. The cruise heads North past the Westin and Black Rock towards the northern tip of the island and then returns and anchors briefly near Black Rock to allow a view of the nightly cliff diving ceremony. The colors of the sky were stunning; the night we went there was a continuous huge rainbow hanging in one of the valleys despite the absence of any precipitation all day.
The office staff was very friendly and handled our large reservation with ease. They even offered to break down the payments any way that was convenient for our group. And the next day, the captain was walking down the beach path and actually recognized my 8 year old nephew form the night before; He engaged him in a conversation which is above and beyond expectations given the number of guests they encounter daily.
Overall, one of the main highlights of any trip and highly recommended
