We enjoyed our visit to the Westin Maui. The rooms are an adequate size and the grounds are beautiful. The complimentary breakfast buffet (came with our room) was fantastic. Parking was never a problem. I would recommend this hotel.

Despite many other honeymooners who said The Westin Maui was not for honeymooners, this was the best vacation I have ever been on!! The Westin was absolutely beautiful!! We had a "partial ocean view" room, but there was nothing "partial" about the view. We had a perfect view of the ocean in a beautiful room! There are lots of pools and even a couple water slides. There wasn't much of a beach due to the high tide (we went in October), but we still enjoyed the beach just as much!! The only complaint I have is that it is VERY expensive to eat at the hotel.
We drove into town (Lahaina is about a 5 min drive) for every meal and LOVED everything we ate!! We had a PERFECT honeymoon and we can't wait to go back!!!

The landscaping and pool are what make this hotel great. Very lush and tropical with the pool winding down around and even under walkways! The pool here rivals some of the enormous Vegas swimming pools with the tropical foliage, waterfalls, grottoes, and water slides, etc. We had the best time on the water slide - all the males (i.e. anyone over 170 lbs.) in our party just FLEW down that thing! It was a hoot.

My boyfriend and I went with my sister's family; including her three children. Excellent feature: the adult pool is secluded and private from the rest of the pools. We layed out at the adult pool, with nice chaise lounges and fluffy padding, while the kids swam and splashed around the other varied pools. I had a seaside, open air massage, while my neice had her hair braided. A real treat having a massage with the tradewinds blowing...

We stayed in a recently remodeled (check to see if all the rooms are now remodeled) top floor room and made daily use of the bar area in the room. Nicely appointed plantation style bedrooms and finishes. Though there is too little clothing storage for a long term stay. The washroom had a separate sink area from the commode and tub/shower room which is always nice. The "heavenly bath"... well, I've been in heavenlier (sp?) baths before. But they do have the rounded shower rod making the shower curtain expand so you have more room to shower - which is a std.
"heavenly bath" feature. Otherwise the bathroom was std. issue 1970 hotel bathroom configuration with upgraded finishes.

We enjoyed morning jogs and sunset walks along the seaside promenade.
It travels and winds it's way along the shore line and you get to see about eight other hotels that are also lined along the Kaanapali beach.
It is also beautifully landscaped. We took some great sunset pictures here. DOWNFALL: Beach is not kid friendly and has serious undertows.
After five minutes in the ocean the kids were back at the pool.

A MUST: The main restaurant (open at 5:00 pm I beleive) has hand made, all fresh pina coladas. No store bought mixers; just fresh, island pineapples.

Whalers Village is right next door. You could take a dip in the pool, layout a bit, then, if you wanted you could just run next door and window shop, then head right back to the pool. I loved that the hotel was right next to this quaint shopping center. It has clothing stores, accessosries, a book store, fast food, sit down restaurants, ice cream store, hawaiiana, jewelry, and also high end stores (Gucci, LV, among others... as I recall)

We usually stopped by the poolside bar (open late) after dinner and enjoyed a night cap. Very casual bar, and we liked that it had a couple TV's there were you could watch sports. Casual and easy going.

That Kaanapali beach is lined with other hotels, we took advantage of the excellent variety of restaurants the other hotels offered, for breakfast and dinner. And we didn't need a car, we simply walked the promenade. It was great to see and visit other hotels, too.

Though, even after seeing the other hotels we did not regret having stayed at the Westin and we really enjoyed our stay here. Casual, friendly and easy going.

We just got back from an absolutely great vacation in Kihei & Maui. For the first week we rented a private condo at Kihei Surfside in Kihei. We were very pleased. The condo we rented just happened to be recently remodeled, and it was great. It was a one bedroom condo on the 4th fl. overlooking the ocean. It was not huge, only about 500 sq. ft. but plently big enough for 2 people. The kitchen was very modern and had all the conveniences if you wanted to save money and cook. Although it was not air conditioned, the ceiling fan and the breeze was wonderful. The grounds are kept up quite beautifully. The pool was not as large as a hotel, but was plenty big enough. We enjoyed sitting out and watching the whales and the sunsets. If peace and quite is what you are looking for this is definitely the place to be. We went on several snorkeling trips and liked them all, but we were most impressed with the Blue Water Rafting trip that left from a pier right next door to our condo. The second week we stayed at the Westin in Maui. We also were happy with our accommodation, however, I must say for the money you pay to stay there (almost half the cost to stay at Kihei Surfside than the Westin) the bathrooms could be better. There was no place to put anything. The Westin is very crowded and very very expensive compared to Kihei. It was like to separate vacations, but all in all we had a great time, and Hawaii is definitely paradise.

Just returned from a week at the Westin. We have stayed at many different Westin Resorts around the world-and this was the least impressive. Since we were delayed leaving our point of origin-we didn't check in to the hotel until 6pm-having called from the airport in Oahu to let them know we were going to be delayed. We had the worst possible room-right next to the elevators-and with a mountain view(which was really pretty)-our room was several floors above the main entrance-which caused for lots and lots of noise. There was a motorbike reving its engine at 6am one morning-it was a bit annoying. The pool area is nice-fourtunately they have an 'adult' pool where no one under 18(or 16?) is a 'allowed'. It did help relieve some of the noise inthe pool area. However-space was very limited-and there were many cases of 'chair reserving' and chairs going unoccupied for many many hours. The hotel restaurants were average-the staff was okay-pleasant, but never went out of their way. I'll be blunt-there were far too many children running around this resort-and many were left unsupervised and badly behaved. As Starwood preferred members-for a few years-we found that while we had an awesome time in Maui-we would not return to the Westin.
Oh-and about the rooms being too small-I don't know how anyone could fit all of their clothing and shoes in that TINY armoire they provided.

We just returned from Maui (Feb 13 - Feb 20). Stayed at Westin. It's a great resort with a friendly atmosphere. Pros: Great landscape.
Lobby area is a cool place to hang around.
Several swimming pools.
Easy access to the beach.
Nicely appointed room.
Good in-resort restaraunts.
Good view of the beach (watch for the so called ocean view on the side of the whalers village. You'll have to upgrade to Deluxe ocean view to get the pool/ocean view. Didn't bother to upgrade as we were spending most of the time outside.) Friendly staff with good service.
Great for families.
Can use the other facilities in the hotels belonging to the starwood resorts group of hotels. (eg. snorkeling near sheraton) Introduction to scuba diving (didn't take those lessons but a nice feature if interested).
Kids camp.

cons: Narrow and wet beach.
In resort services are expensive.
Have to request refrigerator, which would occupy more space.
No microwave.
If booking with travelocity etc. certain things may not be guaranteed, but it is cheaper. (eg. double beds or king size beds etc.)

Overall we had a very good time and this was one of our best vacation.

My wife and I just came back from visiting both Maui and the Big Island January 30th thru February 6th. Our first 4 nights were spent at the Westin Maui and were we surprised. First, let me say that after reading the reviews here, I was somewhat skeptical about staying there.
However, from the very moment of our arrival until we departed, we were treated like royalty. The staff was great and very courteous, the room very nice and plenty of pool/beach chairs. The remarks about the size of the room I don't understand, what are people looking for? One only sleeps and changes in the room, not entertain. There was plenty of room for our luggage and my golf clubs. We had no problems hanging our clothes, or bumping into one another while getting ready. Over priced, yeah, but name one hotel that isn't anywhere, especially on Maui. Why would anyone ever eat at the resort? Food and drinks are always higher there. Next door at the Westin is Whalers Village with good medium priced restuarants and a McD's. So do yourself a favor and indulge in the Westin Maui. Mahalo
