Having stayed at other Westin locations, we figured this was a can't-miss for our honeymoon. As other reviewers have mentioned, they are doing renovations, starting with the Beach Tower, which happened to be where we would be staying. When we checked in, we told the front desk clerk it was our honeymoon and asked for a nice room w/view. We were assigned a room on the 4th floor...and wouldn't you know, renovations were being done on the 5th floor. So, needless to say our first night was spent in 1) an OLDER ROOM and 2) immediately below construction with noise stating at 8AM!!!!! We called the front desk who assured us the noise would stop (drilling started again at 8:30am). After getting absolutely no where with the front desk, we spoke with the Manager (a god-send) who was able to move us to the 10th floor.

On the day of departure, our flight happened to be a red-eye so we inquired about a late checkout. We were told that this would cost us an additional $250.00 (for 4 measly hours). The front desk woman then had the gall to say, "Well, I'm sorry we wrecked your honeymoon..." after we questioned the charge. We reported her comments and behavior to the manager.

Needless to say, the Westin Maui's front desk personnel left a very bitter taste. Had it not been for management, this review would have been much worse. For those staying in the Beach Tower, I would recommend that you request a room on the 8th floor or higher (ABOVE the construction).

This review is a bit tardy - but didn't want the great service and wonderful time at the Westin to go unnoticed. My girlfriend and I did a "girlfriend's getaway" in early May 2007, and I picked the Westin Maui being a Starwood Preferred Guest - I had a great deal emailed to me called "Half Price to Hawaii" - look for it in April-May 2008 next year. The rooms were half price - around $259 for a partial ocean view room - 4th floor, not the remodeled Tower, but we loved our room, even though it had not been remodeled - had a view of the pool, waterfall, AND ocean - our balcony was right above the waterfall - we left our lanai door open a crack every night to hear the water soothe us to sleep. We enjoyed the pools, and even did the waterslide a few times with the kids! The room had 2 double beds, small bathroom, refrigerator - adequate for us. The Heavenly Beds were just that. We found orchids, beautiful cards with Hawaiian sentiments on them, and chocolates on our pillows every night. (Because of the SPG status? I don't know... but we loved it!) We toured the spa, didn't use it, but it's lovely, with a beautiful view. We LOVED getting 1/2 price drinks and "pupus" at theTropica Restaurant every afternoon, from 3-5pm - then we skipped dinner and had dessert later! They have a lavender vinagrette that was outstanding. We also loved Tropica for the breakfast buffet - yes it's pricey at $25, but we only did it once, and loved the eggs benedict, tropical fruits and juices, waffles, omelets made to order, etc. There was also an abundance of Japanese specialties, including sashimi, rice, fish soups, etc. For breakfast mind you! :) We also enjoyed the proximity to Whaler's Village outdoor shopping mall, just a minutes walk down the beach path. It was also just a 10 minute walk down the beach to the Sheraton, where we had delicious coffee one morning, and caught our snorkeling tour. We had dinner at Cheeseburger in Paradise in Lahaina, and loved the funky, touristy atmosphere. All in all we loved the Westin, yes it can be pricey, but you have to find the deals, and realize its a resort, not a quiet, romantic hideaway - of course there's going to be kids and a little chaos! We loved it and I hope to come back soon with my husband and family.

Stayed at the Westin Maui from Oct. 24th-Oct. 29th, on the Westin Vacations package. We added the extra day to the 5-day package. We had a 2nd floor room in the tower above the entrance. Our room had been updated with flat panel t.v., and the Heavenly Bed. The pool area is one of the best I have experienced; this is a great place for kids. Beach proximity and closeness of the Whaler’s Village shopping center makes this an excellent choice. Only negative was the internet service was very spotty in the room and on most days non-existent.

Hi travelers!

Stayed in this hotel before about three years ago...loved it! this time we stayed in a partial ocean room , and the hotel suppossedly gave us an upgrade to the BEach Tower....Beware! the room was dingy and looked dirty, and due to being renovated there is construction in the tower, which can be noisy early in the morning....we asked to be moved and of course there were no open rooms...Stay in the tower that is right above the entrance...

We booked the Westin Maui for our family vacation with two young children (our first of many stays on Ka'anapali Beach with our two children ages 2 and 6 months).

During most of our previous Maui visits, we've stayed at the Hyatt Regency Maui, and chose the Westin frankly due to a much better rate. I was nervous because our Hyatt visits were always so pleasant and the bar was set high for our first stay at the Westin.

The Westin Maui exceeded most of my family's expectations. We we very impressed with the expansive fantasy pool, ocean-view spa, and comfortable, well-appointed rooms (newly remodeled with flat-panel TVs as well as Westin's signature Heavenly Bed and Bath amenities).

In addition to the solid accommodations and amenities, we found the resort's dining to be well above average (better than most, if not all of the other Ka'anapali Beach resorts). The variety of dining options from full service (where children 5 and under eat free) to high-quality self service dining suited our family needs as well as budgets nicely.

As well as catering to families very well, it also seems to provide an equal level of accommodation to couples looking for romance. There is an adults-only pool where you could hear a pin drop, and one of the nicer spas and fitness centers on Ka'anapali Beach.

The Westin Maui's only major drawback is that the property is aging, and it it shows in the small room size (smaller than current standards) and dated architecture.

What ultimately sets this resort apart from many local competitors, however, is the superior service. The staff was polite, helpful, and quick to provide assistance at a moment's notice. This was evident in nice gestures like a letter and phone call from concierge before our arrival to offer assistance, valet parking our car for free when the self-service lot was full, and the food service staff doing little things to make the kids' dining experience more kid-friendly.

Overall, despite its drawbacks, it is a very solid four-star resort and I highly recommend it to families and couples alike.

Note: the 5/5 (Excellent) rating reflects our experience based on the overall property rating (four stars). In other words, our rating was not based on a five-star-hotel standard.
