“An excellent resort with a "local" feel”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

We 3 adults stayed only one night but really wished it had been a week! The room was very pleasant with a great view of the spectacular Napili Bay. It looked like EVERY room had a ocean view. Great snorkeling! What really set this place apart however was the genuine Aloha Spirit. Every employee we encountered was friendly and helpful and willing to go above and beyond to make your stay wonderful. There were many special programs offered thru out the week like craft demonstrations, music by local well known artists, etc.. They offered many amenities like snorkeling equipment free. They have a good restaurant on the grounds. One of the things that I liked was that the hotel has been there a long time. The oceanside is lined with condos and other tourist places but across the street was an actual neighborhood of local folks. I did not feel like we were isolated from the "real world", which is the experience in so many places. Overall the stay there included a lot of unexpected, pleasant surprises.

Room Tip: It can be windy sometimes so maybe a room facing more south would be best but we loved the breeze ou...

My husband wanted tiki drinks and relaxation while my 16 yr old daughter wanted adventure- for myself, no worries!! which is the catch phrase on Maui. Napili Kai exceeded our expectations on every level. We arrived from a long day of travel and some how Hotels.com messed up - there was no record of our paid reservation. With out a hiccup the wonderful front desk staff were able to show us three rooms, one was exactly as I had requested and fortunately all was well "no worries"- one note, there are some suites that have not been updated and I would avoid those. They are just run down but certainly are being addressed. We, however, had room 32, and it was perfect. The beauty of Napili Kai is it's mission of making you feel like family, without overstating it or feelings of pretension. The natural beauty of the Bay is what one would dream of. We did in fact snorkel with Sea Turtles and enjoyed breakfast as well as a happy hour drink on the water's edge. The Trade Winds were ideal- only a couple days of Kona winds but it didn't matter, every day was amazing. Parking is easy on the property. Take advantage of the talks at 10am each day, and utilize the concierge who were very helpful. This was our first time to Maui and we are already planning our return visit. It is an ideal location and not far from really anything. There is no comparison with any other resort on Maui. Aloha-!! Mahalo everyone at NKBR!!! The Petersons

This amazing resort felt like it was our very own. From the gracious staff to the well manicured and intimate grounds, we enjoyed every moment of our 8 night stay. From the "welcome home" greeting by the front desk staff to the last magical moments on our private ocean front lanai, we were in paradise and savored each and every minute of it. We had a beautiful ocean front 1-bedroom suite that was literally only a few feet from the ocean. The views were spectacular and the room was updated and felt like it was our very own condo. Beach is public but felt private and was only steps away from one of 4 pools. Unlike other resorts where you fight for beach chairs or a place at the pool, there was plenty of room all throughout this resort. We researched every hotel on the island for weeks and we are so very glad we ended up here. We met many couples/families that had been coming here for years (and even one husband and wife who had been coming for the past 40 years!). We will indeed be one of those returning guests! No resort or parking fees, a great happy hour every night at the bar, and close to everything Maui has to offer, Napili Kai is a very special place that is our new home away from home!

Room Tip: Every room pretty much has a view of the ocean but the ocean front rooms are worth the extra costs...

The grounds were beautiful. It's a great family resort with friendly staff. The pools were small, but most people were there to enjoy the beach. There is a walking trail from the resort along the shore past other hotels.

Room Tip: Our room was upstairs ( no elevator ) but wonderful view of the ocean sunsets in our refinished room...

This was the perfect place for us! We liked that no building was more than two stories high. We loved the laid back ambiance and the total dedication of the staff to make our stay terrific. The grounds are gorgeous, as is the bay. When you meet people who have been coming back every year for 41 years, you know they are doing something right! It was the perfect, restful spot for us.

We stayed in Puna II, which is air conditioned and was updated about four years ago. There was a full-sized refrigerator, stove-top, range and a mini-dishwasher. The chairs on the lanai are super-comfortable, and there's nothing like taking a little catnap while reading a book on the lanai. I discovered on our last night there that the sliding glass doors open two-thirds of the way across their length (instead of one-third). Silly me!

Can't wait to make another trip to Napili Kai Beach Resort!!!

Admittedly we are spoiled after spending many holidays on the Big Island at a VERY Hawaiian resort. Sadly it was "tsunami'd" and we had to find an alternative. Napili Kai is a very low rise, scaled back Hawaiian resort that is NOT for people who want water slides, pool chairs placed on top of each other and lots of activity. This resort has plenty of open space with grass for anyone who doesn't like the sandy beach. The beach is public so it gets a bit crowded on the weekends but not too bad. There are 3 pools so there's plenty of room for everyone. The snack bar at the pool is a bit weak, however. They serve coffee (but no decaf) and pastries in the morning and fast food during the day, including smoothies. The restaurant here was under construction (they said they sent out an email but I never received on) and the food was fine but nothing to go out of your way for. The room, however, was PERFECT. We opted for the Ocean View studio which had a full kitchen and terrific balcony overlooking the ocean. Unfortunately the weather wasn't too good and we discovered that the weather is sometimes better in Ka'anapali than up here so we were a bit disappointed. it rained almost the entire time we were there. There is a small fitness center as well. If you are looking for a more "Hawaiian experience" rather than glitzy, sprawling American chain, this would be a good place for couples as well as families.

Room Tip: Pay up for the Ocean View studios and you can buy food to eat on your balcony!

We have stayed here many times over the years and have never been disappointed. If you like high rise properties with lots of people, this isn't for you. Set on a beautiful bay with a great beach, all the building are low profile and blend into the setting. If you like to snorkel, it's great right off the beach. There is a family feel to the property and everyone makes you feel like you live there year round.
