The Napili Kai Beach Resort is a beautiful destination. We were on the north edge of a crescent beach. The resort shares the bay with several other resorts, the nearest being the Mauian.

I think we were a little surprised at the size of the resort. I had made an assumption based on a photo at Trip Advisor that it would a smaller scale than it was. Not a problem but a bit of a surprise. As it turns out the resort is a large condo complex made up of several two level buildings - so not like the monstrous hotels in Kaanapali or on Oahu. The grounds were well kept and the staff was generally pleasant.

The bay is very popular with non-guests as well. But we never had trouble getting a beach chair. It got crowded by my standards, but not horrible, and nothing compared to some of the popular beaches. Parking was readily available for guests. Staff did a respectful job of ensuring non-guests were not edging out guests for beach chairs and pool use. Never had a server approach us on the beach to buy drinks. Not a problem for us. Drinks were expensive by my book.

The bay is a nice sand beach with very nice walk-in snorkeling on a significant reef (for Hawaii). We saw several turtles while snorkeling and a couple of eels. Not a ton of fish but enough to keep it interesting.

We were a bit concerned when we first got to our studio (85). No air-conditioning, but a strong ceiling fan. The studio was right above the main desk lobby area, which was an open loft style, so we could hear everything going on if we left the jalousie windows in the room door open for airflow. We expressed concern on arrival and they happily agreed to move us to an airconditioned room with no issue - but we agreed to try it and chose to stay in 85. If we were there in the summer I think I would want AC.

The room was clean and well kept. Plenty of comfy furniture on the balcony. The bathroom was spotless and in great condition. The bed was a king - but actually two twin sets on a king frame. This was unexpected and created an uncomfortable hard ridge. The kitchen was well appointed. Microwave and stove top, but no oven. Not much noise from the neighbors, but we did get some light pollution from the neighbors balcony and through the window in the door - but no shade on the room door.. I don't think we ever heard anyone - certainly did not impact our ability to sleep. We requested some down pillows be replaced by synthetic and the response was pleasant and immediate.

Actually the only negative (aside from price) was that the designated smoking areas were outside and not all that far away. The strong ocean breeze could have delivered the smoke directly to our room, but that only happened a few times.

They had a restaurant on site, The Sea House - meal costs were typical for Hawaii resorts. Lots of activities, very large putting green, workout room, pools, very large hot tub, gas and charcoal grills, activities for kids/family.

We typically prefer less costly accomodations since we don't typically spend a lot of time in the room, but this was our 30th Anniversary so we splurged. The resort was geared towards a family experience but tolerable for an adult cople wanting some alone time. There were a lot of kids at the resort which made me think that a lot of the units are probably owned by timeshare or other private owners. No one tried to sell us timeshare or suggest we attend a presentation - thankfully.

Room Tip: There are no real "ocean front" rooms so I would not pay the price for what they call ocean front. We had ocean view on the second floor (no elevators) which I prefer over having someone above us - and the view is less obstructed. If you expect hoat weather - ask for a room with AC.

we stayed here from March 15th to the March 25th. I can only tell you it was amazing. Our room was at Ocean you suite, right in the main building. We had a breathtaking ocean view, in addition to a full fridge microwave and small kitchen. food and entertainment is great. Happy, the concierge was so helpful and totally lived up to her name! Cheung at the front desk remembered my name and always had a smile on her face and the friendly greeting to me. Napili is quieter than Lahaina. no high rises here. We love that! short drive to everything you need on the busier areas of Willers village and Front street. we will be back!

My husband and i spent 7 days of our Hawaii honey moon at Naipili Kai, and absolutely loved it.
The location is just perfect, in a small cove with just 4 other resorts, just a few steps from the beach. The beach itself is just beautiful, with some good snorkelling right out the front, some green sea turtles :) The free snorkelling hire is great, but do get in early because they can book out. however there is a dive shop just down the road where we hired them for a day for about $4.
The locals that we met referred to napilli as an old person area. but we absolutely loved that, because it meant that after dinner we went down for a spa almost every night, and we were the only ones in there!!
the free coffee in the lobby, free juice and pineapple in the pool cabana in the morning and mai tai night were all nice touches.
The room was nice, with an amazing view of the ocean, a great balcony with lounge chairs, great for whale watching and just relaxing. The rooms had lots of storage, and great with a fully equipped kitchen, so we could have our breakfast when we wanted.
We ate at the restaurant one night, it was nice, but not amazing.
The expedia desk in the lobby was great, the guy that helped us ( can't remember his name) but he was amazing!!!! gave us some really great recommendations and was so easy to book our day trips... highly recommend!!. highly recommend the 'paragon' catamaran trip. they only cater for up to 14 people at one time on the boat, for whale watching, snorkelling around lanai, and sailing with unlimited mai tais :)
overall amazing experience and would definitely stay here again.

We spent a week at Napili Kai. It's in a wonderful location. Near to activities, restaurants galore and yet a small Maui oasis. The resort offers a small snack bar poolside. An open air restaurant serving Breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner. You have a choice of table cloth service or something a bit more casual by the bar. They also have the best hawaiian slack key artists on Wednesday nights in their open air(roof covered) pavillon. It's not the pre-rehearsed hawaiian revues offered by most of the surrounding hotels. Very similiar to what one might find visiting a local party with people dancing hula, singing and playing some old & new hawaiian music. If you want a large Luau type show, this is not for you. The hotel accomodations are scattered throughout the lush resort grounds. No high rises. Front Desk staff, concierge and Housekeeping are friendly and welcoming. Great for multi-generational families and couples.
Excellent place to unwind, relax and experience what Maui used to be like before all those chain hotels and condos were built. Casual and friendly. Close enough to many of the area restaurants, shopping malls and amenities. There is a definite reason why Napili Kai has been around for all these years, so many return visitors. Yes, the rooms are older, but stll charming. The sunset and beautiful grounds can't be beat. No room service but you can take out from the main restaurant.

Room Tip: Decide what view you wish to enjoy from your lanai and how close or far you wish to be from the main restaurant. We loved our beach front view but have also enjoyed the garden view rooms on past visits.

My husband and I spent 5 nights at the Napili Kai in late February. We enjoyed the camaraderie of the guests that return year after year. The organized putting contests, mai-tai party and especially the Napili Kai's Foundation sponsorship of the Tuesday night polynesian show with local children. The staff was exceptionally social and efficient. The property is clean, being upgraded and has all the necessary activities for guests of all ages.

Room Tip: We preferred the "main" section for convenience reasons mostly.
