“Great Little Vacation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2014

We first stayed at the Mauian 8 years ago. They have done a major interior upgrade since that visit - and it really paid off. The feel and comfort is nothing short of speculator. The staff is easy to work with, and very helpful with our questions and advice of local restaurants and tours.

It was spring break and lots of families with kids were here. Bu not having TV or phones in the rooms didn't seem to stop them from having outdoor fun in the center lawn area. Great place for kids without connecting to electronic games all the time. Beach area is a small bay, but lots of pace for everyone to swim, boogie board, and plenty of paddle boards on the water. Sit on the beach for whale watching or a sunset.

Room Tip: Ground floor for direct connection for kids to the lawn area.

Given that there is 'so much of the world to see and so little time,' we are not particularly partial to returning to a vacation spot no matter how much we may have loved it. Maui and The Mauian is one of the few exceptions we have made in this regard. Coming to Maui is just what the doctor ordered for a week of de-stressing while coming to the Mauian is akin to cozying up in an old pair of slippers or spending time with a cherished friend. This was our third trip here and our first since the rooms have been updated. The updates are simple and lovely while the gardens have beautifully grown in since our last visit and are obviously meticulously maintained. The mandate and ambiance of the hotel is the same as it has always been: this is a family run establishment that does not boast flat screen TV's (ANY TV's for that matter), ornate plush lobbies and surroundings, room service, or any of the other similar 'trappings' of the fancy resorts and hotels. If these are what you are looking for then the Mauian is not for you. What you have instead is a comfortable 'feels like home' accommodation that is equally suited to a family vacation or a couple's Romantic getaway. Indeed, during our week here we encountered several families with young children, a couple who just got married on the beach, and retirees having a reunion. We commented on the fact that not once did I see a child with a hand held electronic device. Rather, they were engaged in physical activities such as shuffleboard, soccer, frisbees, pool time, and of course frolicking in the ocean water. The location is second to none on beautiful Napili Bay which is a mere steps from your room. Breakfasts are simple with fresh local fruit and there is invariably a weekly get-together by the pool featuring a talented native singer. My husband and I also enjoyed the fact that the staff 'leave you alone'; however, they are of course extremely helpful should you require anything.

Tip: both "0cean view" and "Garden view" rooms are equally lovely.
Take you glass of wine down to the beach and sit on the sea wall for breakfast or sunset.

Although there was no A/C in the room, there was good air flow and the room cooled down to sleeping tempreture at night. noticed the bottom rooms had no carpet, only tile, and the patio door was the front door. We had our kid with us on the top floor so we could have the patio door open and she didn't run off anywhere. I understand the no TV thing in the room, but I like TV, so that was a downer for me. Being right on the beach was really nice, whale and Turtle watching right off the beach, and everything was clean and well kept. the light breakfast was always consistant and fresh. And it was almost always quiet for bed time for our daughter as the majority of other patrons were a bit on the senior side, but everyone was really friendly. And a good distance to lahaina too. not too far to a lot of touristy stuff.

Room Tip: Carpet upstairs, tile down stairs. and If your getting a kitchen unit, consider bringing your own ki...

My husband and I stayed here many years ago and loved it for the authentic old school Hawaiian feel and location. They have since redone all the rooms and grounds making it even more enjoyable. Almost everyone you meet is a return guest and very friendly. Loved it as just a couple and still great with a family now. For a place to feel like you are truly enjoying Hawaii the way it was meant to be then this is the place. Doesn't have the huge pool, valet or restaurants but that is exactly why we like it. It's relaxing and every room is only steps to the beach. Can't get closer than that.

This is just one of many trips we've had to Maui, and our 4th time staying at The Mauian.
Lehlani & Wilma at the front desk are true ALOHA Spirits, and the remodel and landscaping make this a perfect & most comfortable hidden spot on Maui. The Mauian, is our favorite!!
To all of the wonderful staff,
Mahalo, a hui hou malama pono!

Room Tip: Ocean view studio rocks!

Stayed here for two nights. Very nice hotel, gives you a real feel of Hawaii. Right on the bay with beautiful views. And the complimentary breakfast is a cherry on the cake. One important thing to remember is call in advance if you are arriving after 5 PM as the office is closed after that. Nice restaurant next door. Great place to stay. Absolutely recommended.

Even though my rooms was not in the best location (#118) next to the rec/breakfast room, this hotel is a great find. The gardens/pools/bbq kept very nice. Rooms had the BEST bed I have ever had in any hotel as well as the linens. Everything in the room was top end. LOVED it. Will go back again.

Room Tip: Garden room is nice..you might not hear the ocean at not.
