We stayed here for 7 nights. The location of this condo was great as it was right on the ocean. I chose this location because it boasted about the sea turtles right outside the door. It didn't disappoint. Everyday there were 2 or 3 turtles to watch swimming just outside the pool area. Being able to sit at the water's edge in the adjacent park to watch the fabulous sunsets was heavenly. The pool area and grounds were well maintained. Used the great BBQ area 4 nights. It would have been better to be a bit closer to our unit, but we made it work. The view from the lanai was spectacular. There were a few things not working or needed fixing which were done right away. However, the unit itself is in much need of an upgrade. It had old shag carpet throughout, glass shutters on every window which let in every sound form the outside, and none of the doors shut properly. The appliances in the kitchen were the only items upgraded. There were lots of kitchen utensils and appliances which were greatly appreciated. Some items were even left behind, such as butter, oil, spices, foil, which were very happy to have and we added to that list when we left. Housekeeping was something to be desired. It was quite evident that minimal cleaning had been done in this unit. The build up of spilled sauces etc that had accumulated along the side of the fridge was disgusting. I was told on the last day that they were replacing all the housekeeping staff. I am not sure I would return to this complex again as the pics on the internet made it look much better than it actually was.

Room Tip: Rooms along the back of the complex face the ocean. Not sure if traffic noise is reduced here or no...

RKelly, We are very surprised by your review and sorry you had any issues. Our staff is available 24/7 to remedy any situation that creates discomfort. The office phone number and email address are displayed in the unit and the Hale Kai welcome book. One phone call or a stop in the office and the issues you raised could have been easily handled. The description accompanying your photo is misleading as the residue you mentioned is just condensation, which is common in a tropical climate. We are happy to know you enjoyed the location, view and the other amenities at Hale Kai. We strive to make your vacation the Maui experience of your dreams. Aloha.

I stayed in this condo for eight nights and was able to enjoy beautiful views of the ocean and neighboring islands as well as the pool and grounds area. This unit was so clean and well kept as well as tastefully decorated. The king size bed was very comfortable, much better than the usual. The pool area was well kept and had plenty of lounge chairs and the little beach was a wonderful place to snorkel or body surf or just play in the sand. The location was close to the farmers market, just a short walk, for fresh pineapple, mangos, papaya and many other freshly made goodies. This was a wonderfully quiet place to stay and enjoy Maui.

Loved the location... had all the comforts of home... was right at the park & beach... perfect for our time away from home with no children or grandchildren!!

Special thanks to the "owners" for keeping their unit in such pristine condition!!

We always look for the best value we in comes to a room. We like them really clean, in a great location, & cheap in the wallet. When I go to a place like Maui I'm not going there to sit in a condo. What little time we spent there was to shower and sleep. But let me tell you. It was clean, in a great location, well furnished and at a great price. The pool was very nice with plenty of lounge chairs and grills for cooking. The pool is right by the sea wall which was great for watching the sea turtles swim by. There's a small beach right there and some good snorkeling. But within 10mins is some large beautiful beaches and some excellent snorkeling bays. The farmers market across the street is wonderful. We had fresh breads, fruit, & guacamole to die for from the market everyday. I'm not one for the Big Resorts because of the crowded pools & over priced food. So this place was perfect. One day when I return I will without a doubt stay at Hale Kai.

We stayed here for 7 nights. It was great! We booked through Chase N Rainbows, as it was a little cheaper. The only con was Chase N Rainbows charges for beach towel rentals ($2/week for each towel). The unit was well-appointed and had almost all the supplies we needed, plus some nice extras (footballs, basketballs, one beach chair, beach umbrella, bocce set, cooler, laundry basket, some laundry detergent, 2 boogie boards, frisbee, snorkel--but no mask). The only things we noticed it didn't have were a kettle (we used a pot instead), a cheese grater, a bathtub plug and a blanket for the sofa bed (which really would have been nice). The bedroom bed is quite soft and likely needs replacing. Everything else was ship-shape. Didn't need a/c at all. The Lanai was lovely. We very much enjoyed the beach park next door. The kids could run around, there was a play structure and they liked the beach. On the other side of the resort, there is a private beach area that is even nicer. The pool was beautiful. The laundry room was in great shape and the machines worked great and very nice and quickly. There is on-site parking, although the spaces are small. The Farmer's Market across the street was great, we went 3 times. They give out lots of free samples of cookies, banana breads, spreads, and all the fruits they have. There are 2 bbqs available. It is nice easy drive from here to Lahaina, or other nice beach areas like Napili.

We stayed 4 nights in apartment 202 , which has very nice ocean view, directly at the beach. The apartment is spacey, nicely furnitured and everything you need is in the kitchen. We enjoyed our stay very much. It is a short drive to Lahaina but everything you need you will also find nearby.

Overall, Hale Kai offered a good place to set up camp and branch out to nearby locations. It is not fancy or located among the high profile tourist hotels, but it suited our needs well. It is within 10-15 minutes driving time of many of the really nice beaches (DT Fleming is a must!). It is within walking distance of a nice long boardwalk that connects many Kaanapali beaches and hotels. There is a great Farmers Market on M,W,F just across the street, as well an an organic deli that is open daily. A 10 minute walk (or <5 min drive) takes you to a great grocery store (Times Super Market) that has seafood, fresh fruit/vegetables and all other food supplies. We had a condo on the second floor facing the county park. For the most part, the park was quiet and visitors were appropriate. The beach itself has a lot of corral but is still nice. We saw sea turtles and humpback whales daily from the pool area. The condo was clean and worked well for us. If you are on a budget and can't afford the more expensive hotels/condos, this is a very good option.
