Best Western Pioneer Inn
Ranked #12 of 32 Hotels in Lahaina
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 9, 2013

The Pioneer Inn is our favorite place to stay in Lahaina. We're not beach people but the wharf is just next door and we can see the water from our outside room looking at the Banyan Tree Park. The three people who work the office have been there several years so it's nice to see a familiar face and they are so helpful and friendly. The rooms are small but sitting on the lanai and people watching make up for it. Who stays in the room anyway? Whale watching is a favorite thing for us to do when we're there and the boats (rafts, our favorite) are just seconds away from the hotel. So much to do within a ten minute walk from hotel....all sorts of shops and restaurants. Kudos to the staff, especially Amber, who saw we really, really wanted our Banyan Tree view room.

Room Tip: We like the Banyan Tree view rooms but if you want something quiet they have rooms that overlook the...

Such nice people, doing everything possible to mitigate the problems of being right in the middle of the busiest part of Lahaina. Although our room was small, it faced the lovely pool and garden area and had a nice lanai. The hotel is definitely "vintage", but very clean, good air conditioner, comfortable bed. Both of the desk people we interacted with (daytime and evening) couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. We'd stay here again for sure!

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a courtyard facing room.

The Pioneer Inn was built in 1901 and is on the Historic Registar. If you are a condo hi-rise kind of person this is not for you. If you want a clean well kept room and a fantastic staff to help you enjoy your stay this is the place for you.

We spent 9 nights here. We had a lovely courtyard view room. The room while small was great for us. We had lots of space to unpack, places for our luggage and a refrigerator in our room. Most evenings we spent on our lani enjoying a glass of wine. Our room was kept immaculate from the day we arrived until the day we left. The staff was all friendly and helpful. Katherine and Anne on the front dest were especially so. Maids and any other employees we encountered were friendly and always spoke to us.

Every day we got a coupon for 15% off any meal in the restaurant. We used one each day for breakfast. It did not save us a lot of money but we really appreciated the effort. Courtyard is lovely.

Location of the hotel is wonderful for exploring Lahaina on foot. Parking was just a block and a half away. We were able to walk to dinner most nights. One night we needed a taxi to go to dinner and the hotel sent us to a great cab driver, Linda, who also picked us up.

We did several whale watching trips and waited until the actual days to book (we wanted to pick the best weather). It was so easy to walk accross the street only 20 minutes before the trips departed.

Would stay here again!

Room Tip: Rooms on courtyard side are quiet.

The Pioneer Inn is a Landmark historic building and therefore a fun place to stay. If your looking for the "resort" experience this isn't it. The location is perfect for easy access to the harbor and center of town. Pick a room on the courtyard overlooking the pool for a quieter stay as the outer rooms are subject to a lot of street/ partying noise from the surroundings. Both Katherine and Anne at the front desk were more than helpful and enjoyable. We had a rental car and found the parking to be convenient especially for an old building in the town center. Way easier than most European spots!

Room Tip: Inner courtyard! there is no elevator so you will need to carry your luggage up stairs. Again,a lot...

Right in the heart of town. And that just about sums up the high points. My room was simple, no frills. It had a nice porch facing the banyan tree. I had seen this place in the past, and had kinda romanticized the idea of staying there... visions of a vintage Hawaiiana experience in my mind. That dream got shot down pretty quickly. The reality was me dragging my luggage up the stairs to a smallish room (no elevator), and parking my car in their parking lot which is a few blocks away. Dealt with three different front desk employees, who I'm sure are nice people but who all had the demeanor of someone who'd been fired from a better job, and weren't too thrilled about dealing with guests at a hotel. The friendliest person I dealt with by far was the housekeeper who cleaned my room.
Any potential noise from the street was successfully drowned out by my air conditioner (which worked great).
A cheaper (but not cheap) place to stay downtown to lock up your stuff, take a shower, and get some sleep. You're in Hawaii, brah, was your plan to spend time in your hotel room? Get out there and explore the town-
Would stay there again, but I'm also keeping an eye out for other options for my next visit.

The Pioneer Inn is OLD, and kind of funky, and located perfectly in the heart of Lahaina next to the banyan tree, on the water. About as perfect a location as possible in town. Quiet at night, fun to stay at.
