The Pioneer Inn is OLD, and kind of funky, and located perfectly in the heart of Lahaina next to the banyan tree, on the water. About as perfect a location as possible in town. Quiet at night, fun to stay at.

We stayed at the Pioneer Inn during December and January and found it to be perfected positioned in the heart of Lahaina. The rates are good and the breakfast excellent value for money with a large variety to choose from and large, tasty portions. The rooms are a little cramped but sufficient for travellers' needs. The balconies are spacious and allow for people-watching on the streets below but beware, if you have a room that overlooks Front Street, it is exceptionally noisy and you will get NO sleep. There is a man who sets up parrots and cockatoos on the pavement below as he makes money out of taking photographs of tourists with his birds and the birds screech until 10pm when he finally packs up and goes home! In addition to this there is a pub and grill across the road that has a singer who croons (nobody has told him that his voice is bad) till the early hours of the morning! If you do stay at this hotel, request a room that faces the internal courtyard or be prepared to be sleep deprived!

Room Tip: Choose an internal room facing the courtyard

Pros – price, nice location for exploring Lahaina town, free wifi, free parking, comfy bed
Cons – no fitness centre, no room service, old hotel, musty smell, not on a beach, lax housekeeping
We had one of the larger rooms with a King bed and a pull down queen bed for our son. The room was large enough and had a nice courtyard view and a peekaboo view of the ocean. We stayed here for four nights and then moved to the Ka’anapali beach hotel for the same price. My son (16) liked the Ka’anapali Beach hotel much more. We used our airmiles to stay at the best western but I do not think I would choose to stay here again. My main concern was that the room was not totally clean when we arrived and was never properly cleaned during our stay. Like some curly little hairs on the floor behind the bathroom door that were there when we arrived and stayed the whole time. Yuck.
But this hotel is perfect if you plan to attend the Feast at Lele...it is just down the street

Room Tip: our room faced the courtyard and was very quiet. No problem with noise

We had an affair on our luxe hotel in wailea and stayed at the best western pioneer one night while checking out the napili bay beach and going to a luau. This place is great for 1 or 2 nights. A cool building - great location and amazing service. I tripped (my fault) and they brought me ice immediately. The building was an old recreation building for plantation workers in Lanai - high ceilings, shutters, nice trim - I still can't believe it is a best western. Stay there if you are in the area.

Great location for a few days. Didn't use the air conditioner but found the noise from the air conditioners for other rooms to be loud and obtrusive. Suggest the hotel have a policy that air conditioners not be used unless temperature is above 80 degrees. Also, our room was near the kitchen exhaust which added to all the noise.

This is a great hotel with a lot of history. If you like to experience unusual places, you will enjoy your stay here and it is right across the street from the beach! The service was top notch as well!
