“Good location, all amenities, and friendly staff”
Reviewed July 13, 2012

Pioneer Hotel is located, basically, in Lahaina Harbor. The location is great for walking around Front Street and catching ferries for dive/island trips.
Rooms are a bit small and definitely not recently renovated (expect not modern and new)... but include everything: parking, air con, TV, fridge, coffee maker, hair dryer, iron/board, and my room had a porch over the pool. Because it's located so close to Front Street, there is a bit of noise...
The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful.
Overall, a good place to stay.

Room Tip: Rooms on the north side get VERY hot during the day...

A classic and pituresque hotel to stay in. It has it own story as the oldest and only hotel on West Maui for sixty years. It is located near to the beautiful Banyan tree, where a market sometimes dwell. Average prize level. Roomservice OK, clean and nice and with the possibility to relax on your balcony having a cool softdrink in the afternoon. Breakfast ok and cheap as you get a voucher as a resident.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the large ventilator or filtering machine, as it is quite noisy! (Rooms around...

We arrived at the hotel after a really long trip and the staff were great. We felt completely at home from the first moment. The city is very special, and so is this hotel. We had one of the best dinners at their restaurant and the best Mai Tai in the islands. The room had that something special, lanai views were great and overall we were sorry we couldn't stay longer. After spending ten days traveling the islands, by far this is one of the best places we stayed at. If you are looking for a luxurious place this might not be for you, but if you are looking for a warm, comfortable and amicable place this is perfect. There is something special about Lahaina, but the same happens with this hotel. It was just very special, and the breakfast was great.

Hotel is located right across street from Lanai ferry and block from tourist shops. Decor is dated and needs updating. I stayed at hotel only because it was near the ferry port. Didn't spend much time in room but to shower and sleep. Hotel was suitable for what I needed.

Room Tip: Had room with porch but found it to be very noisy at night with people gathering to talk, smoke and...

A unique location on Maui with easy access to charter boats, cheap local buses that go to all parts of the island, and a large variety of shops and eating places. Well away from International resorts, condominiums and golf clubs. Verandah to watch the activities of locals, cruise ship passengers and other tourists. Huge banyan tree next door and a marina across the road. Historical old hotel but clean and well priced. Popular restaurant downstairs. We really enjoyed our time at the Pioneer Inn.

Room Tip: We had a room with a view of the banyan tree and the marina which we loved but it was noisy at night...

I spent last Thursday and Friday night there. This quaint hotel was built in 1901 and expanded in the 1930s. Its all-wood construction is in remarkable condition given the age. The rooms are very basic, with high ceilings, tile floors, comfortable beds, spacious lanais, a window air conditioner, and small bathrooms with no counter space (only a glass shelf). The hotel has no elevator, only a tall, straight flight of stairs. I had to lug all 130 pounds of luggage up and down the stairs (dive and underwater photography gear) twice. The location is killer, being located on Front Street across from the docks. The first morning, I was awakened to 30 minutes of a vacuum truck pumping downstairs from 0530 to 0600. The next night (Friday), an adjacent bar played really, really loud music until 1:30 AM, and it took 20 minutes after that for the drunken folks to leave. So if you're looking for peace and quiet, absolutely don't stay here. If you want to party, and don't mind loud music and little sleep, the location is central.

Room Tip: Good luck.

Location was great. Room decor was bland. Restaurant was fantastic. Bed was comfortable. Porches were cool. Service was ok. First day the room was not cleaned, the bed was not made up, the towels were taken but not returned. No towels whatsoever. We left that morning to explore at 6am and returned at 6pm. The housekeeper was a few doors down and when I asked her what happened to our clean, fresh towels she said something about this being the only time to wash in the week???? They came back and gave me fresh towels after "cleaning" the bathroom in 4 minutes. Other than that, it was an ok stay.

First I want to apologize that your room wasn't cleaned and you weren't given fresh towels on the first day of your stay. It is our hotel policy to clean each room daily and our laundry is sent out to a commercial company and returned daily, so there is really no excuse for you not receiving fresh towels. Again let me apologize and tell you it is not our procedure.
