I am glad we did the Old Lahaina Luau as it was the only event during our stay that exposed us to a little bit of the history and culture of Hawaii. The setting at the beach was beautiful and the weather was perfect. Spending an evening at the Old Lahaina Luau truly instilled in us a sense of 'being in Hawaii'. We saw the men dig out the kalua pig. We wore orchid leis and sipped our tropical drinks. We ate a lot of different foods and among them, poi and taro salad. We watched the traditional dances that signified the stories of the Hawaiian people. We listened to the Hawaian songs whose sound was as soothing as the waves... Just like they said, "Relax, you're in Maui.".
I would recommend the luau to first time travelers to Hawaii such as we were. It really makes for a more complete Hawaian experience by giving this beautiful place its unique definition and character.

Good show and great drinks. A bit pricey and was not as interactive with crowd as others I've attended.

I know....everyone is supposed to disregard the 5* ratings, but it's true. I really couldn't find fault with this experience. We had booked about 3 weeks before arriving and were seated the second set of tables back and a bit off to the side. However, it really doesn't matter...there are no bad seats!

We were instructed to arrive at 5:15 PM, but we left early since we were coming up from Wailea. We arrived just before 5 PM and the parking lot was nearly full. So arrive early if you want to park close! We were greeted immediately and given our tickets and told to return at 5:15 PM for entry. We walked across the street to the Lahaina Cannery Mall to kill a few minutes.

Back at 5:15 PM and we were greeted with beautiful orchid leis and a choice of water, fruit punch, or mai tais. The fruit punch was great...not too sugary (although the ones serves at our table tasted too syrupy/sugary).

We were seated at a table with a family of 6, so we really didn't talk to them much (we were outnumbered!). We walked around to the various activities and took pictures along the waterfront. There are some guys selling tiki carvings and a woman selling jewelry. There is also fresh coconut that is handed out and hula instruction.

The pig is uncovered in a ceremony at about 5:50 (don't worry, they announce it). It's really crowded though...but I just held the camera up high and snagged some good video.

You are assigned a server and she (Tasha) was really good at refilling drinks and water. She also came and brought us to the buffet line. I won't bore you with a list of the food, you can find that online. I will say that it was all quite yummy. Was it gourmet food? No. Was it better than some crappy buffet back on the mainland? Yes! The pork and chicken was juicy. Rice was moist. Seafood salad was yummy. It filled us up! Dessert is brought to the table and was OK. Nothing to write home about, although the fusion of chocolate, peppers, and sea salt was yummy.

The dancing starts around 7:10ish and continues until about 8 PM. I was blown away. It was amazing!!! I took so much video.

Was it worth the $100+ pp fee? Yes!!! We didn't drink any alcohol and we still feel like we got our money's worth. Highly recommend!!!

And after reading all the reviews, this seemed to be the one to go to, even though we were staying down in South Maui. The food was pretty good (gotta manage expectations with a buffet) and drinks were plentiful. The organization of the servers and staff was very impressive. It was nice to walk around beforehand, but there really wasn't much to see (other than the pig ceremony). The entertainment after dinner was a bit slow and long for our taste (maybe they should add the fire dancer that other ones seem to have). It was fairly calm/orderly for a meal of that size. So while a pretty good experience, I wouldn't put it on my "must do" list for others.

The Old Lahaina Luau was something that our family had never experienced before and it was one of the highlights of our vacation! The performance was mesmerizing and the food was incredibly delicious! Before the show we watched a man make a traditional wooden tiki carving which was quite interesting and added to the old Hawaiian atmosphere. We loved it and would definitely go back!
