“Good choice for fit guests on a moderate budget”
Reviewed January 18, 2006

Our garden-view studio, E-107 at the top of the Eldorado's hillside, was spacious, clean and attractively furnished in typical Outrigger tropical decor, with a pleasing view of one of the resort's three pools only a dozen steps from our shady lanai. The queen bed was extremely comfy with a quality mattress, though we found the heavy foam rubber pillows pure torture. Thankfully, the sofa was the real deal, not the studio couch found in smaller units at some Outrigger resorts.
The bright galley kitchen had an updated range, microwave, fridge and dishwasher, but wasn't equipped for real meal prep -- e.g., no toaster, decent knife, or salt and pepper shaker. The bathroom was, frankly, shabby and depressing: beat-up fixtures with the finish worn off, dim lighting in the toilet/tub area, no attempt at decor, and a cheap hollow-core door that literally looked gnawed off at the bottom. We weren't expecting granite and travertine, but all this was worse than many Motel 6's, though it was certainly roomier. What is Outrigger thinking??
As noted by other reviewers, the Eldorado's beach clubhouse is a definite plus, offering free chaises, sand chairs, and towels, a fridge and microwave and soft drink machine. The sandy beach is quieter than the Sheraton side of Black Rock, though its steeper slope and stronger surf call for a bit more caution with younger kids.
The pool by our unit had ample chaises and was never crowded. Everyone around it agreed it was just too cold to linger in, but great for a quick dip or sunning.
All told, we feel that for most guests the resort is a good value in pricey Kaanapali. Its hilly layout and distance from the beach and parking lot made it much more problematic for us, as I'm disabled (though not in a wheelchair). We had asked Outrigger about this when we booked and been assured that the golf cart shuttle would be available whenever needed. However, there was almost always a long wait for it, so we usually just gave up and walked -- slowly and with some difficulty when schlepping beach gear. For most guests this would not be a problem. For us, the difficulty really detracted from our enjoyment and so leaves us less likely to return to the Eldorado.

We have stayed in the Maui Eldorado twice and had a great experience both times. Most suites are only a 5 minute (easy) walk to the beach and the pool area is huge and sunny. There are 2 additional pools that we never even used. The Beach Cabana is an added bonus and it's nice to be able to catch a ride with the golf cart shuttle if you are lugging lots of stuff with you. The best thing about the Eldorado is being so close to Whaler's Village without actually being right IN it. We would walk down early every morning when things were quiet and have coffee on the beach. It is much nicer to take quite morning walks in Kaanapali as opposed to Kihei (where I have stayed in the past).
The resort is big and the staff are not overly helpful (especially if you rent privately and not through Outrigger).
If you're looking for big comfortable suites, lots of amenities and a fabulous beach nearby...this is the place for you.

My friend and I stayed here over New Years and had a great time! The beach is beautiful as is the overall scenery. While I feel that this resort is meant more for a honeymooning couple, I am glad I had the pleasure of staying here. The room was huge and had EVERYTHING including a washer/dryer. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to enjoy a relaxing vacation.

I stayed here last week in a recently renovated studio unit. Good value for the money. My main complaint would be with the staff. They were not very pleasant at the front desk. The first night we were there, a huge cockroach came out in the kitchen. When we called the front desk just asking for bug spray, they told me the location of the nearest store and said that I might be seeing more so get used to the bugs.

One of the pools was a pleasant temperature, while the other two weren't heated. Unfortunately there isn't a spa on site.

When I booked the room there was no parking charges, but the by the time we arrived we were charged. When we mentioned the previous parking, they just shook their heads and said that we could park offsite someplace and walk a mile.

Other than these mild inconveniences, the location is great. Enjoyed my stay for the great price that we got.

Booked as a package through American Airlines vacations. We stayed in J210 the first week in October. Huge 1 bedroom condo with full kitchen, living room/bedroom combo, and large bath. Beautifully decorated. Beach a short 5 minute walk. 10 minute walk to Whaler's village. 10 minute drive north of downtown Lahaina. Great value - much better than staying in a full service hotel. Would stay here again. Our daughter's room at the Sheraton was much smaller and more expensive. PS-great low prices on meals and drinks at Moose McGillycuddy's in Lahaina during happy hour.

This was my 7 time to Maui but my First Time at the El Dorado in Maui and I was very pleased. We rented a 2 bedroom unit and it was large & updated. We had a unit 207 in the "J" building with a golf and ocean view. I read other reviews about how far away the beach was and I can see it if you are located in some of the back buildings. Our unit was a 5 min walk from the beach and 7 min to Walers Village with shops and food. I would stay here again. Try to get in the J or H locations if possible.

Would definately stay here again. We stayed in J205 - a 1 bd condo - heaps of space, nicely appointed. The beach cabana is great. The beach at this end is a little steep for me (am not a good swimmer though). One morning we walked along the beach to the Kaanapali Villas for breakfast - they have a restaurant right near the beach (we have stayed at the villas before so knew it was there). The beach here is much flatter for me also!
Maui is a fabulous holiday destination - we love Whalers Village and Lahaina, the Cannery Mall is also good. Cannot wait to return!
