“Amazing Hawaiian experience”
Reviewed January 7, 2011

My husband and I stayed at this lovely resort in August 2010 ; we had room #671 in the Kauai building , nice garden/mountains view, very quiet !
Our room / wing looked like they had been recently redone : sparkling clean , comfortable queen beds , small balcony from which we could have a glimpse of the beach/ocean !
Should you be a HYATT type guy , this hotel isn’t for you !
BUT if you wish a truly Hawaiian experience , with lots of ALOHA and friendly staff YOU’LL ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS HOTEL !!!
We specially loved our evening meals at their main restaurant , with FREE but AWESOME & WELL PERFORMED hula show ; you can watch that show EVERY night … and it’s always different !
We adored the REAL Hawaiian staff , who put up many classes about Hawaiian culture : I did two different LEI-making classes and the hula dance class twice ; cannot remember the name of our “kumu hula” (teacher) , but she was absolutely lovely , one of my warmest memories about this vacation.
You’ll find nice Hawaiian touches all over the hotel and grounds … and big smiles everywhere , from the WELCOME buffet breakfast ( with the staff serenading you ) to the touching “Until we meet again” kukui lei ceremony on the day of your departure :
We LOVED the champaghe they delivered to our room as it was our anniversary ; the Whalers Village is a short walk away and there you can find everything , fron REAL scrimshaw to quick bites , shave ice and hearty cheap breakfast !! Try Kimo’s restaurant at night !!
The famous Black Rock is steps away ; be sure to watch that awesome Cliff Diving ceremony ( at sunset)… you just need to walk a couple minutes on the beach …
Be sure also to save one evening to watch the awesome Magic Show which is helf at Kaanapali Beach Hotel (Kupanaa) : it is really amazing.
We are already dreaming of a return trip : wouldn’t consider to stay anywhere else !!!

A lovely Hawaiian hotel, great location, easy to find and situated on a lovely sandy beach overlooking Black Rock. We saw Humpback whales and dolphins from the beach!
The room was clean, air conditioning ice cool and beds very comfy, although the bathroom was quite small but all was decorated fairly modernly and in good taste.
The beach and grounds were all immaculate, the pool was clean, although quite small, and no seperate kids pool which is sometimes nice if you are travelling with no kids yourselves.
The staff were friendly and helpful, they evening left a bottle of champagne in our fridge as it was our honeymoon, they also give you a leaving ceremony where you are given a Lai necklace.
We booked bed and breakfast, breakfast wasn't bad, buffet style, some odd choices but usually quite tasty. We tried the restaurant and it was one of our best meals, very good quality food, we also tried the tiki grill for lunch which was also really good.
Generally a nice relaxed hotel and we enjoyed it very much.
The down sides were:
Quite expensive for what you get.
You have to pay $9 per day parking, which is a bit of a cheek!
The Bar closes at 10pm!
Pool is quite small
Not that much to do, they did some classes but I never saw any going on
Not many sun loungers on beach, you also have to pay for those.
Despite the chilled reputation Hawaii has, we found it quite strict there, not as chilled and relaxed as we thought it would be for example:
Smoking only in designated areas (which are few and far between)
No alcohol on the beach
Our bar closed at 10pm
Fireworks banned
Plastic carrier bags banned
Maui does offer so much to do, we ziplined, drove up a volcano, went whale watching and saw some amazing sights, lots of restaurants and altogether highly recommended, We would definately go back but not necessarily to Kaanapali Beach Hotel.

Great resort hotel. Very expensif over the Christmas Holiday. My only suggestions would be to have more activities for the older children travelling with their parents. Itravelled with my 18 and 20 year old. The food was great. Perhaps the breakfast buffet could have had a little more variety or chang it up and a little less pricy. Overall I would rate it a 4.

Thank You

The beach at this hotel is great.
The room was kind of run down and could use an update (no place to put soap in shower, tiny bathroom, tired fixtures)
Tiki bar was great.
The grounds were nice.
Restaurant deal was overpriced.
I didn't take part in any activitiies.

Stayed here for 5 nights from Christmas Eve, booked through their website with car Budget car rental included which we upgraded. Everything went very smoothly with car rental and check-in. We were very pleased with our 4th floor ocean front room in Kauai block that had a spectacular view of the ocean, as the other ocean front block looked much older and run down. Our spacious room had 2 double beds and we added a roll away with no extra charge. Enjoyed very much sitting in the balcony so close to the ocean and the sound of pounding waves, beach is right in front. Whalers Village, a few minutes walk away has a Macdonalds and ABC Store, we ate dinners at Leilanis and Hula Grill there, had to pre-book as the wait was 1.5 hours perhaps due to Xmas crowd. Only downside was the Christmas dinner buffet at Kaanapali itself, food was mushy and not worth the price, we were told to come at 7 pm but they closed the food service at 7:45, we did not eat at the hotel after that. Cleaning staff were efficient, car parking was easy and room had internet (paid). All in all a very pleasant stay, especially the great ocean front location of our room.

We enjoyed 12 days at Kaanapali Beach Hotel. Is it the Ritz? Not by a long shot. Does it have the the high end pools and landscaping such as the Shariton, Weston, Marriot, or Hyatt. No it does not. But it does have half the price per night. Which bought us Helicopter Tours, Dive Trip's, Plantaition Tour, Aquarium Tour, Magic Show, Rental Car, Road to Hana, Crater Tour, Etc.

Our room was very clean and the staff was very friendly. The bathroom was a bit smaller than I am use to, but all in all it worked out. The bed was fine. At home I sleep on a $3,000 bed and I was perfectly happy with the bed in our room. The grounds of the property were very clean and well cared for. I do not think I was ever on property without seeing a caretaker cleaning and or maintaining the landscaping. If I had to find something to be negative about was the elevators. They seemed a bit worn out. Looks wise not the operation of the elevator. This hotel must be 30 plus years old.

When we first arived I must admit this is no Maui Westin. And I was second guessing my hotel pick. But after a 15 hour travel day I could have picked the Westin apart. After a day or two we settled in and all was just fine. I came to like the fact that I could move around a lounge chairs on the lawn any where I wanted to sun, shade, or pool. Try that at the major brand hotels. That lounge chair is not being moved. It was like my own back yard. The staff alway's made us feel welcome.

The pool well, yes it is a pool. Nothing fancy, just a little better than basic. I must admit all the other major brand hotels have awsome looking pools. Again we paid half the price. And did activities we did not do on a prior trip because we paid $450.00 per night.

The location is great with snorkeling at Black Rock a couple of time a day. It is just a short walk and like wise for the Whaler's Village. Our room was on the 5th floor so we could see Black Rock and the diver every evening at sunset. The hotel is quiet at 10:00 and they enforce it.

If you want to spend $400.00 plus a night just go next door to the Shariton. I have paid that price in the past and did a whole lot less in activites. So ask your self. How much are you in the room any way? Would I stay at Kaanapali Beach Hotel again? In a heart beat I would. It is the same beach.

Oh, by the way we purchased the breakfast package and we were pleased with the food. The wait staff is a bit confused it seamed. I think some of them need a bit more training. However the food was fine. And you could have as much of what ever you would like for breakfast. There are pleanty of breakfast foods to choose from. You will not go hungry.

We chose this hotel andwere very happy with it. This was a first for us , as we usually stay with allinclusives in the carribian. This hotel is older but it was very nice, rooms were a little outdated but they were not bad, we were in room 253, i thought the room set up was very nice, the bed wasnt like home but was not bad. Beautiful views everywhere. you did have to pay extra for everything. We rented a car on the island, we were not at the hotel much.
The pool was small but was nice, the grounds were well kept. The food we thought was average price for the states , drinks also. We ate at the grill a few times very good. This hotel offered free breakfeast every morning which was very nice & the cocunut syrup was amazing. The beach was just unreal beautiful, Everyone at the hotel aws very nice and i mean everyone we loved our stay. we ventured out alot , the downtown area was so cute , every island was different in there own way. We snorkled one day ~ which i didnt think was that great compared to other places we have been ,saw no turtles although there were some in our group thet said they did, We drove on some roads we probly shouldnt have ~ The road to hannah was nothing compared to the one road we were on. We did the old lahaina lua and that was great. We did some hiking alot of driving . This island really was beautiful we would come back and we would choose this hotel again.
The day we left they offered a little gift that was very nice we truly did enjoy our experience at this hotel and the island!!
