Before I say anything, I want to say the staff here couldn't be nicer and friendlier.
Our room was clean, but the decor is old with an old style bedspread and art like you would find in a museum. The pool is nothing special, it was probably nice in its day, but can't compare with newer resorts.
The facilites could use attention to detail. My wife is keen on cleanliness and noted that the lounge chairs around the pool were too gross to sit in (dirty and smudged), the pool tiles are caked with smudge (so bad kids have marked their initials in the smudge with their finger nails), the chair pads in the restaurant were thread bare and not attached to the chairs (straps hanging). This is small stuff, but it shows a woman definitely is not in the picture as far as the level of cleanliness that is acceptable on the grounds.

We are returned guests and this time we enjoyed the KBH even more.

Check-in was a breath and the lovely lady explained us all the benefits we get from our returned guests package (e.g. free buffet breakfast for every day of our staying, 2 complimentary drinks at the Tiki bar, 20% discount at the restaurant, turn down service with delicious cookies and more).

As we could recall from our previous staying, everyone was always smiling and eager to please guests in every possible way.

The KBH has plenty of Hawaiian activities. The day of our arrival we were suffering from jet- leg (time zone difference :12 hours !) and stayed in the hotel grounds most of the day to rest, enjoying laulau weaving, lei making and ukulele lessons : by the way the ukulele teacher is an outstanding musician, he played for us “pupils” wonderful Hawaiian songs !

The hotel is very quiet and laid back, it surely isn't an Hyatt, but you feel ohana (family) and can really relax and absorb Hawaiian way of life. The grounds are so relaxing and you never feel “inside” a tourist crowd !

One feature that we always love is the free music and hula show which KBH offers every evening: it is truly Hawaiian, nothing to do with “commercial” hula shows.

Buffet breakfast was rich with various breakfast meats, fresh fruits, cereals, croissants / muffin / pastries; the POG juice was delicious ...

If you stop by the Tiki Grill in the evening, try the Mahi Mahi sandwich: very tasty.
In the main restaurant they always serve ONO (good) fresh catch of the day.

The hotel is conveniently situated near the Whalers village, where you finds lot of nice shops and eateries.

When we go back to Maui , we would not stay anywhere else

Highly recommended

Room Tip: Avoind the old Molokai building (no elevator)

The Ka'anapali Beach Hotel was one of the first hotels built in West Maui, and sometimes she shows her age. The rooms are pleasant, but not special, The grounds are well maintained, but not spectacular. That writ, she is my favorite hotel on Maui because her employees live "aloha" and share "aloha" with all their guests. I've stayed at thet hotel 3 times in the last 3 years, and have consistently been impressed with the friendliness and cheerfulness of all employees. Pass a bellman in a hallway and you'll always hear: "Aloha." Walk past a gardener on the way to the beach and you'll always hear: "Aloha." From the servers, to the front desk, to the housekeeping staff, to the bellmen - every worker is polite, cheerful and friendly. It's hard to beat.

Even harder to beat is the Tiki Bar. Dale Simonson is the head bartender and he's been at the Tiki Bar for 37 years (I'm writing this in 2012.) He's poured hundreds of thousands of mai tai's in his career and I defy you to find a better one. He's a charming host - as are all the bar staff - and a joy to visit. He may not remember your name, but he'll remember your face and your drink. What more can you ask?

With its location a short rock throw from Black Rock, the shops and restaurants at Whaler's Village, its proximity to Lahaina and its charming people, it is a can't miss favorite in West Maui. Aloha.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms are pleasant, but the ocean front rooms (while not spectacular) offer spectacular views of the beach, the ocean, Lanai and Molokai and spectacular sunsets.

This isn't a 5 star resort, but I didn't want to be at one and I definitely don't want to pay for one. However, the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel is a very nice hotel that I returned to for this stay and would continue to come back to in the future.

As a return visitor, we got a one level room upgrade. Nice! I think that we ended up staying in the same room, but just one floor below where we stayed last year! Too funny! The room facing the pool was very spacious. The king bed was comfortable. The room also included a sofa and two chairs in the seating area, along with a glass table and two chairs, and a refrigerator. The bath included a shower and a bath tub. The pleasant surprise is that you get a really nice shortbread cookie each evening left on your bed while you are out at dinner. As a repeat visitor, we also got a free drink, free bottle of water, and a very nice fruit plate. On night 5 of our stay, we also received two sunglass cases. When you leave, you are presented with very nice kukui nut leis.

They have free entertainment at the pool which is different each night. While this is a terrific bonus, it is also my one complaint. If you do want to fall asleep before 9:00 or 9:30 (I had to be up at 4:00 AM for the half marathon), then you will have that noise in your room.

KBH is located next to the Sheraton which fronts Black Rock. The snorkeling here is very good when the surf isn't too bad. Nice easy walk. Very convenient. However, due to the shore break and the large drop off, this isn't the best beach for just playing in the water. The beach path in front of the resorts is nice to stroll at night and the access to Whaler's Village (just 1 or 2? resorts away) is terrific for several very good dinner options.

We will definitely return to KBH when we come back to West Maui.

Room Tip: No fitness center.

We have just recently stayed at the Ka'anapali Hotel. We found the hotel a very enjoyable experience. The rooms were quite good, the facilities also reasonable if not getting a bit old. The service was excellent. The location is also excellent. At breakfast a number of the chairs had bird poo on the cushions, this wasn't great, even though the food was ok. The room cleaning was excellent as well. No gym was also disappointing.
