“Best place to stay with toddlers”
Reviewed May 17, 2009

This is a great place to stay if you have young children. We have a 2 and 4 year old and they absolutely loved the kids pool area and waterslide. I can't believe how much fun they had. My 4 year old spent hours going down the slide. My 2 year old spent hours digging in the sand area and loved the water spout area as well. The layout of the kids pool/sand/slide area was perfect. The pictures on the hotel website does not do it justice. They had plenty of lawnchairs so you could lay and relax and still watch your kids. The "adult" pool was also very nice with plenty of chairs. The one downside is that the beach right off the hotel wasn't great. It has a lot of coral that washed up on the sand so that the kids didn't want to walk and be on the sand right there. We just walked up the path a few hundred feet by the next hotel and did our beach time there.

The service was great. We ordered room service a few times and they had quoted us 30 minutes and after 30 minutes on the dot they called and said it would be 10 more minutes. Once they arrived 10 minutes later, they had a box of chocolates in hand for our inconvienance.

Rooms were a nice size, but you want to make sure you are at the end of the hall so that you don't hear all of the foot traffic all night long.

The fitness center was also amazing. The ocean view from the fitness center made you want to come and work out. The spa at the hotel was also great.

Have stayed here 4 times, this time for 9 nights. Positves 1) Great location 2) Beautiful Atrium Lobby and Well kept clean grounds 3) Friendly wonderful helpful staff 4) Great Breakfast Buffet 4) Comfy Beds 5) Addition of Umala Bar Restaurant GREAT 6) Clean rooms. Negatives 1) I realize this is an older hotel but for what we pay the rooms and bathrooms can use some major updating, bathrooms majorly small, need new sinks and bath fixtures, balconies small 2) this was my 4th stay and for 9 nights and they would not upgrade us even though hotel was not at full capacity 3) our room had musty odor and we had to keep the slifding glass door open to get fresh air in Hyatt really needs to upgrade and update the rooms and bathrooms otherwise GREAT place. Also the Otter Pops at the pool ROCK!!!

Beautiful and scenic entrance and lobby area.Great service and pleasant staff to meet and greet on arrival. It was very late when we got there and we were made to feel that it did not matter we were well treated from the start with pleasant smiles,it was great to finally reach!!!
From the morning the staff called us by our names;which made us feel extra special. Wonderful!! is the only way to describe the way the Chief Chef , Swan Court manager and staff , Umalu manager and staff, and events manager and staff made our stay. Thank You for a wonderful stay!!

Just got back from trip #4 in 5 years. We went there in 04 for our 25th and loved it sooo much that we went back 2 years later in 06. Then we went again in 08 for my parent's 50th anniversary. My sister and her boyfriend loved it too. My parents can't stop talking about how great it was. So we went again, this time 6 months later. Every time it's perfect. The service is exceptional. I highly recommend using the Hyatt concierge to book your fun stuff like good restaurants, golf and dinner cruises. They help you pick the best stuff and when we got to the restaurants we had the best tables. We just did the Hula Girl Dinner cruise on the new 65-ft. catamaran sail boat and it was fantastic too, we were treated like VIPs. The pool at the Hyatt right on the beach is a blast too, with a cave bar and water slide. The new pool side restaurant/bar Umalu is really cool with live entertainment that was very good and although their drinks have gotten a bit pricey this last visit, they do have a daily drink special that makes it a little more reasonable. It was sooo romantic at night complete with beach front hammocks to relax in.

My husband and I stayed here during our honeymoon. We were completely unimpressed. The hotel is beautiful in the common areas, but that's where it ends.

Upon arrival, only SOME of the guests received leis, while others were ignored by the valets entirely. The receptionist checking us in barely looked at me, and even had a flirtatious conversation with another staffer while I was waiting there.

The first room we had was in what they called the garden, but it was almost a sub-level. The room reaked of mold, and it turned out to be the couch. We requested a change and they did move us to a higher level with no moldy couch.

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. One of the days were were gone, we returned to find the door to our room ajar. Thankfully nothing was missing, but we called security. They found out that the guy who checks the mini bar had left it open. There was not much of an apology. We did receive a small basket of food as an apology, some of which was expired.

The pool was insanely busy and getting poolside food or drink service demanded a significant wait. The food here was outrageous, even by Hawaii's standards. One night we had dinner at the restaurant next to the pool. It took 45 min. to be seated (and there were open tables ) and then took 75 min. to get the food. Again, there was a half-hearted apology, no discount on the food and the food was not worth what we paid for it.

The positives of this hotel were that it was pretty in the common areas, and the private beach. You could easily access the beach from the resort and it was very well kept. Also, I hear that during the whale migration you can see the whales (and some dolphins) go through the area right from the beach.

We did like Ka'anapali. It's about 45-60 min. from the airport because there is so much traffic in Maui.

We stayed at the Kaanapali Beach Club (KBC) on the same trip and prior to staying at the Hyatt...NO COMPARISON! The Hyatt had everything we needed and our 3.5 yr old had the absolute best time in the swimming pools. We were not notified by the broker - Robert [--] - that the KBC swimming pool would be under renovations during our stay which was the main reason we stayed there. We will definately stay at the Hyatt next time for the whole trip.

Amazing stay here at the Hyatt. Great rooms, service, but a little on the expensive side (but I mean come on, your in the middle of paradise and you're staying at a Hyatt). There are so many things to do in Maui. The Hyatt made our stay great, they were so professional. The only downside to the Hyatt is their section of the beach. Kaanapali beach is the 2-mile long beach in front of the Hyatt. The Hyatt has a not-so-great section of the beach; there are rocks, and the sand starts to get incorporated into the water and makes it nasty. There are a few moments of where the water is calm and it is good fro snorkeling, but overall there is a better location for you to go for a beach. It is not that far away, about a 5-10 minute walk to the north of the Hyatt to Black Rock. Black Rock is the north end of Kaanapali beach. It has crystal-clear water, and AMAZING, and I mean AMAZING snorkeling. It just seems that you visited a whole different beach, but you are still on the same beach. You can try the Hyatt's beach, but it is skinny and not that great; however, Black Rock is wide beach with amazing snorkeling and you can see many types of colorful fish. AND THAT'S JUST THE BEACH! The rooms at the Hyatt are spacious, nice, and very comfortable (your regular Hyatt, but with upgrades). The lobby is an open-air lobby and lets wildlife come in. There are amazing grounds at the Hyatt, and the pool is amazing. The waterfalls, slides, it is all great! The Hyatt has a great fitness center and is just a 5-10 minute car ride from the city of Lahaina. You'll just have to go to Lahaina to see what it looks like. It is a really cool city, with AMAZING LITTLE SHOPS and RESTAURANTS; oh, I almost forgot, you have to go to the Old Lahaina Luau. Do not go to the Hyatt's luau. GO TO THE OLD LAHAINA LUAU. IT IS AMAZING. Also go to the Haleakala sunrise, it is EXTRAORDINARY. You will never see anything like it. But, do not take a tour. Go by yourself, it is so much more convenient. You also need to do the Road to Hana. It does have a ton of hair-pin turns and bridges, but it is absolutely exquisite. Over all, if I were you I would take my advice because I had a absolutely great time here at Maui.
