Lovely facility with the most gorgeous grounds. The bird life in the grounds is amazing... even penguins. Breakfast buffet in the Swan Court is lovely but the highlight is the surroundings and views while you are having breakfast. Pool areas are lovely and big but managing to get a lounge or any kind of seat some days was a real challenge... some very selfish people in this world who leave towels etc on lounges for hours but are not using them... away in the bar or room or whatever but have "reserved" the lounges for their personal use all day! Against the policy of the facility but hard to police.
Easy walk up to Whalers Village or you can shuttle bus it.
Did not like the number of times we were approached about time share.... a number of phone messages and at least 4 desks in high volume traffic areas that were so hard to avoid. Lovely people only doing their jobs but .........
Also not at all happy with the "resort fees" which basically gave us a bottle of water each each day and not much else that was of use... such as free local calls... not much use to international travellers

Room tip: Don't really think it matters if you have mountain views or beach views cos you are not really in your room much. Even those with ocean views did not seem to be taking advantage of the views from their rooms, we never saw anyone on their balconies taking advantage of the ocean views. I would suggest asking for a room away from the front entrance.... very noisy ALL times of the day due to the high volume of traffic and staff calling out for guests taxis, hire cars, transfers and the number of people ( most often from other hotels) exiting after the wonderful Luau

This is a really nice hotel for a trip to Maui. It is close to the quaint town of Lahaina and about an hour from the main airport. The pool is huge and gorgeous and has a slide and waterfall for the kids. The fitness center is top notch and has free classes for all types of exercise - power yoga, pilates, boot camps, water aerobics etc. This is probably one of the best hotel fitness classes I have ever used. The grounds are gorgeous with a pseudo bird sanctuary on site. The penguins in the lobby were the best way to make me smile every day passing them in the lobby. The meeting rooms were large. There is a great shopping area right in the hotel and whoever had the genius thought to place a Macy's annex there deserves an award. The Macy's has mostly resort wear and bathing suits which is a great idea. Many people shopped there and the prices were reasonable and they took standard Macy's coupons! The hotel was convenient to many restaurants and many were walkable. There is also an outdoor mall nearby (Whalers Village) with some high end shopping. You could buy a made in Hawaii Aloha shirt here. The rooms were nice and well decorated. The products were coco and mango flavored which added a nice touch. I felt the rooms could have been a bit cleaner and I have noticed this from other reviews. The king bed we had was platform, which is unusual for a hotel. We used the concierge service once and they were excellent. Overall, everyone is friendly in Hawaii and this extended to this hotel. I did not think this hotel was a 5 star Ritz-type establishment, but it was still very nice.

Room tip: We had an ocean front room, which was gorgeous. Bed arrangement, for some strange reason, is not guaranteed here. When we checked in after a long flight from the East Coast, they tried to give us a queen/double room. We specifically requested a king. After some conversation with the supervisor, they eventually granted our request.

Really enjoyed the bartenders and the stargazing on the roof. Top notch people. The people stayed at the resort could've used some tips on how to treat people. We witnessed battles over lounge chairs, sun blocking (yes sun blocking). Pool is always packed and not much room on the beach. The resort restaurant prices are outrageous for the quality. They nickel and dime you for everything.I'm sure most of the resorts along that strip do as well. The valet was not very outgoing and seemed aggravated. If we paid a hundred bucks less per night, I wouldn't complain. We stayed at another resort for the 2nd half of our vacation in south Maui. I'm so glad our last half of our vacation was fabulous.

Hubby and I were here on a business trip for almost a week in February. This is a lovely hotel with amazing grounds. You will be blown away with the landscaping.

The resort is beautiful, though rather cosmetically dated. Our partially obstructed king room had a great view of the ocean. The partial obstruction was a view of their gorgeous gardens. Somehow, in February, it was Spring Break for many kids. I would bring my kids here. They have a great pool with cool water slides and the front beach boardwalk will take you to all the hotels in Kaanapali as well as the shopping mall and restaurants.

Room plus -- quite a large king room. The beds are platform so they are really low to the ground and have no box springs. These kind of hurt our backs. The bathroom was really dated -- tub shower and toilet in a closet setting with a really bad light and a polyester shower curtain. The single sink area was outside the shower area -- again no natural light and pretty poor lighting in general. There was a huge walk in closet with a safe and a formerly mini-bar (family hotel!) armoire with another mirror in the sink/dressing area. The mini-bar had been converted to a fridge and there was another mini-fridge in there as well. Lots of fridges. Family hotel!

Great staff, great valet -- always could get our car quickly. The gym is new and has an ocean view. Very nice. Great business meeting rooms. No one ever solicited us for time-sharing nor did we ever hear the construction next door and we stayed in the wing right next to the cranes. They have a Starbucks in the lobby atrium that opens super early for business folks and east coast time-zone adjusters. Staff there remembered our order the second time we visited!

A really nice property. If we were on our own, probably would go somewhere less crowded than Kaanapali but Hyatt has done well with this resort.
