“Beyond my wildest expectation”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

My husband and I are fairly seasoned travelers and so we came to the Maui Hyatt on the recommendation of a friend. We have an 18 mo old daughter, so it was important that the hotel be kid friendly. We found the Hyatt to be truly amazing. The grounds are unbelievable. There are many exotic animals here including a crane that our daughter fell in love with. The pool is great for kids. Above all, the location is unbeatable. Honestly, we could not have hoped for any better.

My husband and I recently stayed in this hotel and was very satisfied-The surrounding gardens around the property were beautiful and loved the penguin habitat as well as the birds on display and the flamingos and swans around the property. The only downside to the stay was some construction going on in the hotel that has disrupted some time we had wanted to relax in the room.
The trip to the local shops was quite short and the property was still nice and quite. The pools were beautiful, and the gym was one of the best I have seen! They had daily classes (went to Zumba) with ice cold water dispensers, ice cold wet face washers, clean towels, headphones and state of the art gym equipment all overlooking the beautiful beach!
Maui was beautiful and would have gladly left out Waikiki in favour of spending our whole time in Hawaii here!

Room Tip: we chose a partial ocean view room-and it sure was partial! we had to crane our neck over the balcon...

After staying at the blah Marriott for a week we moved to the Hyatt. Front the minute the bellman greet you, you know this hotel has it right. The front desk comes from behind to welcome you and walk you back to the desk to check in. The bottles of water they hand you are a nice touch. The bellman that took us to the room was proud of working there and was really helpful about the hotel. Upon checking into our room, we had a small challenge with houskeeping. Right after I hung up the phone two supervisors were at our door to make sure everything was fixed. Within three minutes Sangmi Yoon, the assistant executive housekeeper was at the door to ask if we were happy, which we were. Even Irea the ececutive housekeeper contacted us. The service and employees at the hotel were great. We were there during the work on the concrete on the exterior which was a little noisy but not a deal breaker. Love Swan Court, the hostess is adorable. You have the best breakfast on the beach, dinner was great there also. The pool was wonderful and I enjoyed the waterfalls and cave bar. The pool bar was great and the bartenders and waitress staff so friendly. They liked to share how they love there job and how long they have worked for the company. We will be back in six months, sadly I have the stay at the Marriott one week because I own a time share there, but our following week or two will be a the Hyatt.

Room Tip: Swan Court for Breakfast, also get you towels early to reserve a chair right by the pool

My friend and I stayed here for 6 nights in September/October 2012. Whilst our room was tired and not perfectly clean, the service was great. The resort has an excellent array of shops and the concierge desk is so helpful and efficient. The restaurants whilst limited in number serve tasty food. Not a fan of having to pay for sun beds and the beach is average. Spa treatments are great but spa itself not overly glamorous. Pool is incredibly busy and the TV screens with sports playing continuously not quite what we were expecting for a relaxing holiday but probably great for guys. This is not a luxury resort - the finer details are absent but it would be great for kids - penguins and parrots in lobby are a special touch and there's a fun play pool for kids and beautiful gardens to wander in. We recommend this hotel as a sound holiday destination but not for those looking for top shelf luxury. You will have a good holiday.

First, let me get the bad out of the way. It is almost breathtaking, the ways they find to part you from your money. Where do I begin? Our vacation started on Sep 16th and went until Sep 26th. Our "room rate" was $169 per night, not bad for a resort hotel like the Hyatt, right? Well, of course when you get there, you must take the "resort fee", which was $25. You must pay for parking, which was $20. By the time they add in the high Hawaiian taxes, it was over $237 per night. Then, we have the in-room movies. Most of the decent ones were $20 a pop. Want coffee and a muffin in the lobby? Expect to pay $12. My wife and I ordered a tuna sandwich, salad, and two sodas from the U'malu Market outdoor cafe. The bill was over $50. Do you want two lounge chairs and an umbrella down on the sand? $42 for the day. We had an excellent dinner at Japengos down on the water. We don't order wine, but you can expect the bill to be between $140-$200 with tip.

My other gripes? The lanai is so small as to be useless. Forget sitting outside with a cocktail and enjoying the late afternoon breezes, or having your dinner outside. The wireless connection was terrible, my IPad kept losing contact even though it works perfectly everywhere else. Lots of outdoor noise too early in the morning. The delivery trucks consistently woke us up at 6 AM. The tile floors outside your room means that everytime someone rolls by your room with their wheeled luggage, the "clop clop" everytime they roll over a joint will wake you up, even at 4 AM. Their beach has too many rocks under the water, wear beach shoes or you will cut your feet.

Okay, let's get to the good. The setting is beautiful. The hotel sits right on the ocean and the view from the lobby is breathtaking. Get your reservations for Japengo for about 1/2 hour before sunset, and prepare to enjoy a great meal with an incredible view. The staff is superb, very polite and helpful. Service was exceptional. The walking path that goes from the Hyatt to the Sheraton along the ocean is a great way to start your day. Forgo your coffee at the Hyatt, and get it instead at the oceanfront Starbucks at the Marriott next door on your way back from your walk. The beach is very nice, but if you are seriously into body surfing or snorkeling, go down the beach towards the Sheraton. If you just want to lay out with a good book and take an occasional dip, the Hyatt beach is fine. The beds are very comfortable. The TV and refer worked fine, the bathroom setup was good, as was the maid service. The room A/C was great, very quiet.

Would I go back? We certainly had a great time, but with all the options available on Maui, I would look for something that more fairly represented the daily price you pay and doesn't gouge you on all the other incidentals before I came back here.

Room Tip: The higher up the better. The birds in the lobby make quite a racket. We were on the golf course s...

It's a very nice resort with a great staff. Our 5-day stay was terrific. The staff was to a person amazingly helpful and unfailingly warm and courteous. We were here on a company trip, and I couldn't be more pleased.

We stayed at this resort in 2010 and really enjoyed it and since I wanted to attend The Lahaina Luau we checked out of The Four Seasons to stay here. Before leaving California, I called the hotel and asked if all the construction was complete and told it was. Upon arriving I learned that they are refurbishing the balconies in most of the towers. sanding starts around 8:30am til 5pm. The room had been redone and the bed was quite comfortable. The walls seemed quite thin as I could hear the neighbors and the hallways seemed quite dark and old. The breakfast in the Swan Court seemed to improve. The food was good and they seemed to have better control of the birds. The service in the hotel is top notch. after the Four Seasons the hotel was disappointing.
