This is my second time to the Up Country Maui, Hawaiian Island area and to the Kula Botanical Garden. It sits on the slopes of the dormant volcano, Haleakala. Their paths are wide and wheelchair accessible. If you have knee, hip or back problems, it can be challenging. The asphalt paths are clean and easy to traverse. This bot garden is one of my favorites because there are so many tropical flowers in bloom. It is a photographer's delight and a short lens will do. If you love Protea, they have them in abundance. there is a koi pond, a water fall, an aviary and an orchid area. Add to this they have fuschia, bromeliad and many other tropical species. There are plants from Australia as well. It sits high enough to see into the Pacific ocean at the top of the hill; a beautiful landscape spot. The website is: http://www.kulabotanicalgarden.com. Kula botanical Garden, 638 Kekaulike Avenue, Kula, Maui, Hawaii 96790, (808) 878-1715, Open Daily from 9am-4pm HST. The lady in the visitor's center is warm, welcoming and helpful. About 90% of the place is signed with labels indicating the local name, Latin name and where it comes from. There's lots of goodies in the store such as fabulous local tea (mango, coconut, etc.) as well as beautiful items that you might want to take home with you. Also, excellent flower identification books as well. This is a nice way to see the flowers, trees and bushes of Maui. Peaceful, quiet, serene and you really feel like you are in a beautiful Garden of Eden. Aloha.

We happened upon this attraction during a drive in the hillside of Maui, being both gardeners we went in. As previously mentioned by other reviewers, this is a beautiful and worthwhile attraction, it's self quided with almost all the plants/flowers labeled. Very relaxing and peaceful with great views of the island from various spots. Nice little gift shop.
My wife and I would definitely recommend this attraction.
Note, this site is on a slope so some elevation changes require some slight climbing however very easy to handle.

Well maintained with fabulous vistas. Not too croweded and you can take all the time in the world to explore. There are places to sit and have a lunch and the views are just outrageous.

Whether you enjoy tropical flowers or trees or just a lovely walk in paradise, the Botanical Garden is just gorgeous. The gift shop has an interesting selection for every taste. The whole experience is very educational as well.
Take a day away from the beach and enjoy Upcountry--the Garden, Malawao, Haiku, Kula--all are more then worth the drive!
