Description: When you come on up to visit us at Ulupalakua, you'll find it's not just about the drive. These days, it's about the food. "We're becoming a food destination," says Will Munder, Executive Chef of Ulupalakua Ranch Store & Grill. Mosey up to the counter, and you'll still find all the classic Ranch favorites, but the good stuff just got better. Now everything is made from scratch and as local as we can get it. The Ulupalakua lamb, beef and famous elk are part of our commitment to serve only meat from the Ranch or from Maui. And thanks to Upcountry's abundance. The bustling Grill gets crates of fresh local lettuce, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, pineapple, herbs and more, every morning. Reminders of times gone by are everywhere inside the Ulupalakua Store, from the sepia-toned photos on the walls to the cowboy hats on the shelves. The Store is a happy place of simple things, good things. Our motto here at Ulupalakua Ranch is: "Happy People." Plain and simple.

I posted a review earlier saying how excellent the Ranch is. This review is to rave about the " Lamburger". The last one was about the excellence of the beefburger. Try the Lamburger instead of the beef. You will not be disappointed. However this place is not just about burgers. Chef Will , a real friendly character, has put a menu together that looks terrific. Even though he may not be Chef of the day, the food will still be excellent. His colleagues are very talented. The whole experience is enhanced by the friendliness of the staff, Diana the manageress is full of local information and a delight to know. Do get to know them, it is worth it.

Whether you order an elk burger or a plate lunch this is a great place to grab a bite after visiting the Tedeschi winery across the road. The food, service and atmosphere are great. Neat little store as well.

“Yum! ”

We had made a day of watching the sunrise on Haleakalā, visiting the lavendar farm, the winery (who suggested this lovely place for lunch), then the goat farm and finished up with the vodka distillery. It was an awesome day! We had the lamb burger and hamburger. Both were delicious! I would definitely eat here again! The staff at both the front register and in the cafe section were beyond friendly and helpful! We couldn't have picked this place out better ourselves! Thankful to the winery for the suggestion! Well done!

“Do not miss!”

Had a beef burger. Has to be the best on the Island or anywhere for that matter. The beef is local and it was so succulent. The lettuce, tomato and onion came from the garden straight to the plate, so fresh. The side dish of smashed potato was out of this world. Throw in the really friendly folk and you have a wonderful experience. Do have a chat with Will, he is a funny, friendly guy also a great chef.

“Great food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2014

The sandwiches were large and tasty. The store is full of unique, locally made, souvenirs. Stop at the winery across the street for a tasting and a stroll through the gardens. (The winery is owned by the same family as the store and ranch.)
