Service can be a little slow but hands down the best eclairs I've ever had! If you're upcountry visiting the crater or some of the farms, this is a great place to stop in for a snack.

If you are craving some good French pastries --- this is a great find in Upcountry Maui.
Can't wait to try the restaurant for a meal when I have visitors come over!

Local Upcountry Maui residents flock here when they want to get their fill of delicious French pastries, cappuccinos, and crepes. Owned and operated by a transplanted Frenchman, La Provence is famous for its sinfully delicious sticky buns, flaky croissants (especially the almond ones!), quiches, and three-fruit scones. Be aware that if you want the sticky buns, especially on a weekend, then you need to arrive early or they are often sold out. If you come for lunch, they serve up an assortment of crepes, quiches, and sandwiches.

Service can be sketchy, if you sit outside. It really depends on how busy they are. And, yes, the proprietor can sometimes act like the stereotypical grumpy Frenchman, but mostly he stays in the kitchen, where he puts his baking and cooking talents to wonderful use. But, if you're flexible with your time and perhaps arrive at an off-hour, you'll be served promptly. Also, there's an indoor counter where you can order pastries, coffees, and quiches to go. Sometimes that's the quickest option when it's crowded.

The atmosphere is casual and quaint. Seating and tables are available in a seat-yourself courtyard setting. It can be chilly in the cool Kula mornings (especially in winter months) so bring a sweater or jacket.

Take note: La Provence is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays!

While exploring Maui my fiancé spotted a small sign for this restaurant, so we stopped to check it out.

This is a really cozy restaurant with great ambiance. Everyone that worked at the restaurant had French accents, which is a plus.

We ordered a fish sandwich and a spinach and crab crepe. My fiancé was ecstatic about the bread on the sandwich being authentic French bread and I found the bread to be quite good as well as the rest of the sandwich. I was excited about the crepe having real crab meat instead of krab. I believe they made the dressing on the salad out of the lilikoi they grew on the fence in the dining area, it was also delicious. We finished off the meal with a deliciously tender apricot tart.

I'm guessing the only other place you'll be able to find a meal that tastes like this is in France. The baked goods (i.e. tart and bread) are like nothing I've ever had.
We also tried their almond croissant, some kind of apple pie, chocolate cream thingy and couple other thing that I can't name, but they are all very good. The sweet ones were just right, not too sweet, make you want to eat more. Too bad there's a limitation on our stomach.

The downside is it's extremely hard to spot from the road. We found it by pure luck.

The owner of this place should not be let anywhere near his customers. He has poor communication skills and manners.
