Three women stayed at the Maui Sunset Condos in Kihei and it was a pleasant experience for all of us, on S. Kihei Rd. however, the condos were far away from the street you couldn't hear the traffic through the open patio windows left open at all times.
We stayed in unit A518 a 2 bdrm. 2 small bth.with a lovely ocean and poolside view, close to the shops and restaurants. For $170 p.n. I think we could have gotten newer condo but the Maui Sunset was nice and would recommend it for a family.

My husband and I have seven children which makes travelling quite difficult. However, on this trip we took five of the children and spent a wonderful vacation in a two-bedroom condo. The rooms were clean, well-stocked, versatile and welcoming. The layout of the rooms were ideal for our needs. And, the view (although only of the gardens) was beautiful. We also enjoyed use of the barbecue grills while the children swam in the pool and played shuffle board. Oh, and there is a tenant on property who has a babysitting service!! We loved it so much, we're planning another trip in May!

After reading the rest of the reviews, I guess it really depends on the unit you get if you like Maui Sunset or not. We were extremely lucky and rented an amazing 2bed/2bath unit for eight days. It was very well maintained, clean and the owners were amazing to deal with. (We booked directly through the owners not Maui Sunset). The grounds are beautiful and clean. Every morning before the pool opens up, maintenance people are out scrubbing the pool and hot tub, sweeping (yes sweeping) the grass to get rid of any leaves that may have fallen overnight. We didn't have any problems with odors from the beach. Although the beach isn't swimmable it is still a great spot to watch a sunset or take a nice walk. And besides there are so many great beaches so close that it didn't matter. We will be returning next year to the same unit but this time we are staying longer.

The unit we stayed in had aparently never had the walls painted, and there were stains everywhere. The Carpets were filthy, with big 2ft wide black stains everywhere. the bathrooms were dark and moldy, the bedrrom furnishings were very cheap and ugly, and banged up. The Kithen was nice, the view was great, the grounds were beautiful. It Could have been a beautiful unit if painted, recarpeted, refurnished, and it wasn't cheap either. Also of the 4 elevators only one worked, the one at the Opposite end of the building, so we had to trudge up four flights of stairs every time we went out.

Just returned from the condos after spending 10 days there. For a first time condo renter it was great. the condo we stayed in was beautifully decorated and had numerous amenities including free dsl. At the end of the day it felt like you were coming home, not going back to a hotel room. Plus having a washer and dryer along with a kitchen is great. Go to Costco, buy your food which is the same price as the mainland and you're set. The staff at the m.s. were nice, the security guard is very nice and acutally works the grounds. He walks the parking lot, beach, pool area etc., which is nice to know someone is looking out for you. Parking can be tight when alot of people are there. We were on the 2nd floor of the "B" building and had great views of the ocean, palm trees, and the pool. The grounds are very nice, very well maintained. The grass is like putting greens, nice to walk on barefoot. The beach is not a swimming beach, but not to worry...several great beaches are close by. Kihei is nice, many go to the west side and north/west resorts, but kihei and wailea is better for water activities. Blue Water rafting Kanaio coast/molokini tour is awesome. Overall we had nice stay largely because our condo was great. Pick wisely. This was our first trip to Maui which is great but we do prefer Kauai. There are simply too many things to do which leads to rushing around and not relaxing. Many people arrive at the condos and never leave. You can tell this because some cars never move. Its wonderfull to lay on your lanai or by the pool in the afternoons when the trade winds blow, soooooo nice. Golfers....best bets are at Pukalani and Waileu muni. Other courses are too expensive and the grass isn't any better than the two mentioned. Grocery store, Longs Drugs and other restaurants, etc are very close to the Maui Sunset, so you cant beat it. Aloha!

Just returned from Maui Sunset and were very disappointed with the unit in which we stayed, 208A. The walls were dirty, damaged and dinged, needing lots of refurbishing. The master bath had a hole in the ceiling with lots of mold growing around it. The tub had a poorly repaired hole in it. The bed in the master bedroom is in front of a patio door that has light window coverings. There's a light outside the window so at night it seems like the middle of the day. We eventaully hung dark sheets over the door so the room became a little darker, making for better sleep. When we arrived we found gray looking towels with makeup stains and had to buy laundry detergent to wash them before we could use them.

The grounds are in good condition except for the horrendous odor from the ocean vegetation that accumulates on the very narrow beach. While we were there we found out that a discharge ditch drains nasty, nutrient filled water into the area, and that fertilizes the algae and seaweed. We’ve had many tropical vacations but have never smelled anything this bad. Some days spending any time at the pool or tennis courts was impossible because of the stench.

We enjoyed the island of Maui but would never return to Maui Sunset because of the condition of the unit and the unusable beach. There are other beautiful properties on the island, and we'll look into staying in another location in the future.

This was a great place to stay while on the island of Maui. The grounds were maintained better than the best golf courses. The BBQ grills were very nice, we used them on three occasions. Sitting by the pool with the palm trees in the back ground, the mountains on the other side of the ocean, and the ocean view are phenominal. Our room was nothing to write home about, but we never spend time in the room on vacation, so it did not matter. The beaches around Maui Sunset are infested with seaweed. No one uses the beach for at least a few miles away. We did teh Road to Hana one day, Lahina one day, Kapalua one day, and many other tourist type things, so there was little time for the beach. I really suggest going to Kanapali if you want to go to the beach. It was ranked in the top ten beaches in the US. Its only 30-40 minutes away, and worth the drive. Overall for the price of Maui Sunset, you cannot go wrong. We will definetly be going back.
