“Great Location in Kihei.”
Reviewed April 1, 2012

We booked this property last minute and were pleasantly suprised! The property is in a great location with a decent beach right across the street. Walking distance to several restaurants. Our unit (privatly owned) was a split level with a dbl bedroom downstairs ( great for teens) and a loft and master upstairs. Great for familes. Pools were well kept and quiet. All units had a small water view and large balconeys.
Our specific unit could use a major upgrade with furniture, bedding ect. But if you did your home work I am sure you could find a property here that has been updated.

Room Tip: There are rooms that over look the pool, tennis court and large grassey area. You could watch your k...

Room was not cleaned. shag carpet outdoor furniture kept on carpet. Needs renovating.
Beware of which unit you get. two other families booked there out of 3 rooms only one was what I would expect for a 3 star condo. could not even stay one night there as it was disgusting.

Room Tip: Only book a guaranteed renovated room!

We stayed at the Hale Kamaole - unit 262 - The place was awful. There was mold in the upstairs bathroom - the hand railing going up stairs had to be wiped down before we touched it. The dryer did not work when we got there. They did however fix while we were there The overall appearance of the unit was dated and dirty. The refrigerator was old with nicks in the finish. The dishwasher kept moving back in under the counter so it was hard to start. The cupboards were also filthy inside. No TV in the master bedroom and the TV in the 2nd bedroom was just connected to the DVD player - but no DVDs. This unit was definitely not worth the price. On a positive note the view of the ocean was grand and the grounds were well kept.

First off this is a great facility. Our condo was very clean and comfortable. The location was perfect to shops and the beach. Sandy and her team were very helpful insuring our stay was all we hoped for.

The only downfall are the "locals" Lots of miserable old people that were constantly harassing children from walking on grass to talking loudly at the pool during the day. This place is NOT for large families or groups that like to have fun. This place is a retirement community with an endless list of rules to follow to ensure the zen or comatose state required by the owners.

Apart from the crotchety old folks our trip to Maui was great and will recommend this place to everyone we know that are over 55 with no children or grandchildren.

We recently stayed at the Hale Kamaole and we were pleasantly surprise. After a cat and mouse game to get our keys we arrived at our unit to find the cleaner still putting the finishing touches to our unit. Finally we were able to access the unit, it was very large with lots of storage. A king bed in the bedroom with a flat screen tv and an ac unit. Inside the huge closet was a safe and lots of beach equipment. The well appointed kitchen including dishwasher, microwave and garbarator, lots of dishes glasses and serving bowls. Although the ac did not reach the living area with the addition of several fans we were able to keep the unit fairly cool. Being on the ground floor our patio was only a short walk to the pool. Across the street was the Kamaole Beach III this was heaven. Beautiful sand and warm azure water making it a perfect place to swim and snorkel. All the while hump back whales frolicking in the distance. There are always a few snags in travel but our stay at the Hale Kamaole was overall a good experience. Although our unit was very nice we had 2 other parties in 2 different units and both of their units were less than adequate. These units were dirty and poorly stocked, we felt in our party we had won the condo lottery. It is because of these other units we would not return.

Room Tip: Make sure your unit gets a upgraded cleaning

Really enjoyed our stay in unit 218. The unit was great - A/C in the bedroom, though we hardly needed it. Fully equipped kitchen and in-suite laundry. There was a wireless router in the room but no instructions for connecting (password etc.) but it was easy enough to find unsecured networks from other rooms to connect to.

Note to families with young kids: while the facility is very family friendly, the 2nd and 3rd level units' lanais have plate glass rather than wood railing - good for views but we really didn't feel good about letting our young kids out on the lanai. If your kids like to run around as much as ours do I suggest getting a ground floor unit so they can play out on the grass.

Room Tip: got kids? Get a ground floor room so they can easily get outside and run around in the wide-open cou...

We have stayed at the Hale Kamaole three times and love it there. Its excellent location offers easy access to the beach, stores and restaurants. It is also only a short drive to the beaches and golf in Wailea. Easy access to the Piilani Highway allows quick access to other parts of the island.

We love the comfortable atmosphere at this resort - geared to families. Go at Xmas and you will find large family groups occupying 2 or 3 units. We traveled at the beginning of December and the resort was very peaceful - as the holidays drew nearer occupancy picked up and more kids appeared. Some of the residents own their units and are there for extended periods of time.

There are two building groupings at this resort (the upper and lower). Each area has its own pool and set of bbqs (4 at each). I love that they have kept charcoal bbqs here - it creates an opportunity for a social hour every evening as everyone takes their drink down to the bbq, exchanging stories of their day's adventures while waiting for their coals to light. After all, isn't that why you're there...to relax and do something that you don't normally do at home?

Be aware that this resort was built in the 70s and while some of the units have been updated, some haven't. This shouldn't detract from your vacation, however. Just don't go expecting to stay in a 5 star resort.

The kitchens are generally very well appointed and most units have a storage room where there may be all kinds of treasures waiting. Previous occupants may have left beach chairs, boogie boards or snorkeling equipment behind for your use.

The grounds are extremely well kept - there is always someone trimming the luxuriant foliage or cleaning the pool and bbqs. The workers are unobtrusive as much of the work is done before you are even out of bed.

My favorite part of the day is watching and listening to the conch band salute the sun at sunset. If you have a conch shell in your unit, feel free to participate!

I will never stay anywhere else in Maui!

Room Tip: Rooms on the north side are sunnier, on the south, cooler - so it depends on what you want. Rooms in...
