This is our second time using South Pacific Kayak - and it was great both times. The first time was an epic experience. My husband and I went with my parents, brother and best friend and her husband - the day after we were married. Our guide was very patient. We were out for quite a while, without seeing anything. All of a sudden, our guide tells us to sit, no paddles in the water, and to stop talking. Suddenly a mama, baby and escort appeared. They swam around - and literally - under our kayaks. It was the most amazing experience.
This time, we had a different guide - but still a wonderful time. We were able to see a mama and her baby from about 25 feet. They did not get as close as the first time, but it was still an amazing experience.
The guides are very professional and the experience is such an intimate and wonderful way to see the whales. I would highly recommend this company and the experience.

Couldn't have had a better outing! We saw mother baby whale pairs x 4! They were all around us. We'd encourage you to ask for Garrett. He prepared us for the trip well by showing exactly how to use kayak safely. He kept us a safe distance from whales and provided informational commentary. When it came time to snorkel he was encouraging and helpful and with guidance built confidence. He pointed out turtles and names of fish. Light snacks plus water/juice were offered. Overall it couldn't have been a better adventure. We will go back with family and ask for Garret at South Pacific Kayak.

My family of 4 (and two local friends) went out with Deja for a day of kayaking, whale watching, and snorkeling. We booked the long morning kayak out of Makena Landing and I am so glad we did. Just the 6 of us were in our group, even though the short kayak excursion leaving at the same time had 20 people. Lucky us!! Deja did a great job of explaining kayaking to our friends (who had somehow never kayaked before...) and got us out onto the water quickly. We had a very brisk paddle out about a mile or so, then stopped to watch for whales. It took about 10 minutes, but they arrived! We spent the next half hour or so completely entertained by multiple whales arriving to check us out. Deja explained that the whales like to hear our voices, so we kept them happy by singing "Mele Kalikimaka". Luckily, my friend Kelli has a great voice and the whales loved her!! When we ran out of time, we paddled back to an excellent snorkel site and enjoyed some very friendly turtles. Deja seemed to know exactly the best places to find whales then turtles. Incredible snorkeling was enjoyed by all! After a brisk paddle back to shore, Deja shared lunch on the beach with us and "talked story". All in all, I am very glad I chose South Pacific Kayaks for this day on the water, and that we got lucky enough to have Deja as our guide. My husband remembered her from years earlier when we had taken the same tour, and we were very glad she was still there and still loving showing us tourists around. :)

My partner and I were in a small group for the 2.5 morning whale watching excursion. Our guide, Kelly, was enthusiastic, friendly, and a good teacher. Paddling was calm and fun -- a great way to get out on the water without a big boat. Snorkeling was very exciting; we were surrounded by sea turtles! Kelly had drinks and snacks for us. All in all, a really nice trip.

Two cons, however: we signed up to paddle out from Olowalu, which was near our hotel. However, due to wind conditions, we had to drive an extra half an hour south to Makena, which rearranged our plans for the day. Kelly seemed to suggest that happens often. Also, though we signed up for the whale watching tour, there wasn't any mention of whale watching (until I asked, about half way through the trip).

In summary: if you're willing to be flexible on scheduling, and paddling with marine mammals isn't what's most important to you, this makes for a really fun morning.

Whilst on our honeymoon we booked this trip (south pacific shore @makena bay)..

Was great fun.. Our instructor was Kelly .. Very patient, very informative made a nice chilled atmosphere for our group of 6.
He also made an effort to chat to everyone in the group.

Exactly what we were after. Some really good snorkelling plenty of decent sized turtles to see. Thank you
