“Lovebird Heaven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2013

Actually that title has a double meaning. This is an ideal place for couples, and it's shared with a colony of escaped/feral lovebirds living in a palm tree a short distance away and making frequent visits to the well-stocked bird feeder on the edge of the cool lower lanai outside our bedroom door. If you like gardens and birds you'll love this place. We sure did!

The location near the top of the hill in an upscale acreage subdivision is close to Kihei and it's easy to access everywhere on Maui from here with daytrips in a rental car, which is what we proceeded to do over the next 6 days. It's 5 minutes to the beach and those amazing sunsets.

The Mai'a Studio room was first rate and the queen bed was very comfortable. We slept with the windows open and didn't need either the ceiling fan or the air conditioning. Breakfasts were fruit and baking, different every day, waiting for us on the lanai table outside our door. Hosts Susan and Chuck provide a lot of extras - snorkel gear, beach chairs, coolers, towels, really anything one might need to enjoy their vacation. Plus lots of helpful advice. And very welcome grilling secrets - thanks Chuck!

Susan recommended the drive to Hana continuing clockwise around the island to the start and we really enjoyed the circuit, with two nice hikes of a couple of hours each at the black sand beach and the Pipiwai Trail in Haleakala National Park. We finished with the sun setting above Kihei. Couldn't ask for more.

Our hosts were friendly and helpful, our room was great, really everything was perfect. We would happily return again.

Room Tip: The Mai'a Studio was just what we needed. Didn't see the other 2 rooms but they looked nice...

We stayed her for 9 days.Outstanding best describes this place .The reviews we have read are no lie, Susan and Chuck have made sure they have all your needs covered and do it in a very high standard. We were treated to having another couple next to us that we got along well with and when they asked us to join them for supper and bbq steaks, Chuck offered his expertise on bbqing steaks...end result mouth watering,juicy,favorable...best steaks we have enjoyed in a very long time ! If you are looking for the best look no further Hale Huanani has it all.David & Lisa

All the reviews are absolutely true, this is the best B&B I have ever been to. It is so comfortable and luxe, they really thought of every single detail. Fresh breakfast was delicious, there were some snacks, a large bottle of juice, toothpaste, deadorant and other amenities, bananas, macadamia nuts, beachtowels, snorkelgear, dvd's, books, chocolates too many things to mention. The Mai'a studio was very large and had a amazing shower. Kihei is always sunny and the best place to discover the island from. Chuck and Susan were very nice and we had a few nice chats with them. I had a hard time choosing where to stay on Maui for a reasonable price but next time I will definitely stay here again, it felt like a home away from home...no a castle away from home as I felt like a queen. True Hawaiian hospitality, mahalo and hope to return some day!

Room Tip: the mai'a studio is more private

We had an awesome stay in the cottage from 2/9/13 - 2/16/13. It was like we were in our own house. It was very private. We never saw any of the other tenants. The owners were there if you had any questions. Chuck was there to greet us when we arrived. The POG juice was so refreshing. The breakfast every morning was perfect. Just enough to start off the day. If we were gone for the morning already it was put in our fridge for later. I was leary about staying at a b and b just seeing pictures on the web because so many times they are doctored. What you see is what you get with this place. It was everything we expected and perfect for our stay on Maui. All of the extra's that come with this place just adds to your total experience. Beach mats/towels, coolers, chairs, snorkel gear, beach bag. Kihei was the perfect location to get around the island. We had a great vacation and hope to get back some day to Hale Huanani.

Mahola

Stayed in the Cottage for 5 days. Excellent throughout. Chuck and Susan were very helpful with breakfast served in own private courtyard. Washing Machine and Dryer were provided for own use plus barbecue and beach furniture. Situated in nice neighborhood with private parking. Tour of the garden showed where some of the breakfast came from. We were from England and the TV even had english soccer games!

For the price, this offers great convenience and warm hospitality. It is not on the beach, but at a moderate elevation in a safe and attractive residential neighborhood called Maui Meadows.

The hosts reside on the second floor and guests are located in two studios below the hosts' home and in a separate cottage. The studios have a small kitchenette with good sized fridge and microwave.

There is no cook top in the kitchen. I spent a few minutes of confusion trying to figure out how to cook my breakfast eggs, but you can scramble eggs in a microwave if you require protein in your breakfast.

The layout of the studio would provide a couple with a nice separation of living, cooking, and bathing facilities. Closet space is good and there is ample hot water in the large shower. No tub. A guest laundry is available for personal items. There is no daily maid service, but there are plenty of fresh towels available in the linen closet if you want a daily change. Wifi is good.

The studios and the cottage share a lovely patio/garden space and access to a down-hill terraced garden with numerous fruit and nut trees. Each studio has at least one dining table and chairs. In this area, there is a mechanical marvel for cracking Macadamia nuts, a dvd and guidebook library, binders of current island information, and a bulletin board with current events.

I didn't pay much attention to the bulletin board at first because I'm so used to places with bulletin boards full of outdated materials, but this one is worth watching. Susan posts everything worth doing on the island.

As many others have mentioned, everything you might possibly need for excursions is available here--beach gear, ice chests, etc. Susan provides a good orientation on arrival and made several suggestions of things I didn't discover in my internet research.

My favorite among her suggestions was the Island Circle tour with Valley Isle Excursions. My other favorite was the Pacific Whale Foundation whale watch out of Ma'alaea Harbor. It's at the same location as the Maui Ocean Center. I bought a week pass to the Ocean Center and took the whale watch cruise twice. Loved every minute of both.

When you return from the Ocean Center on Kihei Rd Hwy 31, stop at the wildlife refuge on the right side of the road. The boardwalk leads to fantastic beach views. You can also access the headquarters of the refugue on Pi'ilani Hwy for an interesting view.

I stayed in the Niu studio. Although the two studios are mirror images, the Niu is a bit less attractive because the other studio has windows on two sides and a private dining table at the back of the guest patio. Niu studio is also below the kitchen of the hosts' living area and they do tend to drop things at odd hours.

All told, this is a fantastic bargain for a peaceful stay on a very expensive island. The property is clean, safe, and convenient. The hospitality is flawless.

We stayed here over the holidays, Dec. 26, for several days. This is a very nice place to set up base camp. We spent our days traveling to other parts of the island and then returned to the B&B each night. Access is quite easy and there is parking too. The room was immaculate, quite, except for the birds in the morning, but that was OK too. The family is very accommodating and helpful and they provide you with the little things that make your beach time quite pleasant. A very nice B&B and well worth the stay. My wife and I have stayed in B&B's all over the world and this one rates near the top.

Room Tip: It's a B&B we stayed in one of the rooms, but there is a cottage available.
