Sarento's on the Beach was a fantastic part of our vacation in Maui. It is not cheap. This is definitely an upscale restaurant, but it does not disappoint. It is located in Kehei about 10 minutes from the Grand Wailea Resort. We went there on our 29th Wedding Anniversary during our trip. We went at about 6:15 for dinner. (Reservations are definitely needed.) At first we thought we would have trouble because the setting sun was directly in our faces. We had a table "up front". This means that the only thing between you and the ocean is a narrow strip of lawn and the beach. In about 10 minutes, the sun set behind a mountain and we were treated to a breathtaking view of the sunset in Maui. Many people, including us, got up and went out on the lawn and took pictures. The wine selection was terrific. The food was excellent. We had crab cake appetizers, a veal marsala dish, clams and linguini, and the special which was their version of "clam chowder". It was like a very rich mixture of clams, mussels, shrimp in a delicious white sauce with corn and mushrooms. The service was excellent. The desserts were fantastic. The atmosphere is comfortable yet very sophisticated and romantic. They had jazz playing while we were there. This was one of those rare occasions where dinner was an experience and a very pleasant one. For your one big night out during a stay in Maui, go to Sarento's on the Beach. You will love it!

We had a party of nine which included five kids and the service was exceptional. The team approach was constantly doting on us.

The frozen mixed drinks, especially the mango concoction and the Screaming Italian, were memorable.

The food was above average.

The restaurant is a few yards from the beach.

Based on the rave reviews, we booked a reservation time that would put us at Sorento's just prior to sunset, adjacent to the beach. When we arrived and parked we were approached by the valet parking attendant, who instructed us that we could either valet park or park adjacent to the restaurant in 'self-parking'. So, why is the valet attendant completely back near the restaurant? The positioning makes no sense, because one would already have had to park a car prior to encountering the valet. This was just the beginning. When we entered the restaurant, the hostess was involved in some sort of teenage flirtation with one of the servers and didn't even notice us for a few minutes. Once she did, she snapped to attention and got us seated but things were already headed in a downward trend. We received a wine list, but no menus until we asked for them (!?). It took the waiter another 15 minutes to circle back around to ask for our drink order, furthermore. After receiving the menus, no specials were announced, although we could hear other (better) waiters explaining these to adjacent tables. We received bread, and a nice explanation of the breads on the plate but once ours were depleted, they were not replenished until after our entrees arrived. Appetizers were quite good-the salad caprese and caesar salad were superb. We ordered a glass of wine with the entree, but it arrived several minutes after the entree was served (!). One entree arrived as a vegetarian preparation (in error) and was quickly whisked away to become the italian sausage-containing entree that was ordered (?). The filet was delicious and properly prepared. The ahi was served with a confusing array of accoutrements that didn't really make sense with respect to that fish. We gave up at this point and didn't bother to order dessert. $187 later...the tip reflected our experience. Back to Joe's bar and grill for us--they really know what they are doing.

We just finished our meal at Sarento's, and were so disappointed! The food is average at best; the service is cheesy & confusing; and the meal is overpriced! During the entire process we felt that everyone we encountered was trying to upsell us. The best part was the valet parking, which was fast and friendly. If your looking for a meal that offers exceptional food and value, go to Spago's or Duo!

I took my mother & sisters to Sarrento's to celebrate my mom's birthday during our first trip to Maui. By the reviews I had read I expected something pretty special. What a letdown!
I don't mind spending a lot if everyone is happy with the food and the service is good, but none of us was impressed with our meals. The service was okay.

I had the lamb chops ($42), which were tasty, but they were served on some pita bread with some horribly salty feta cheese and some very strong balsamic vinaigrette. I ate only the meat.

My mother had the Prawns ($34)...all 2 of them, which were served with some little pasta shells or something. My sister had some penne with Italian sausage, which was quite oily and fairly average in flavour, costing $28.

We each had one drink, one glass of wine, NO appetizer, our entrees, and we all shared the large tiramisu (it was good.)
The bill came to $250.00, so after tipping and converting to Canadian funds, this disappointing experience cost me about $330.00.

Coulda done better at the Four Seasons!
