been frequenting shaka pizza since the early 90;s when they were at the original location.
the pizza here is more the New york style type pizza , thin crust, thin layer of sauce, thin layer of cheeze, extras scattered about. it's tasty but to my tast a bit dry. lots of edge crust but very thin in the middle hand tossed and baked in a circular convection oven with stone shelves
.....I think the new place in lahaina 'italian delight' does better NYC style but they are new so many have probably not tried it.
I go here for the sandwiches, usually getting the Italinian 'hoagie' (sub) fresh baked bread, generous portion and made with the italian dressing only, no mayo no mustard, if there is a better sub on maui, please name the place.
The cheesesteaks are good also but to me a bit flavorless, adding some of their home made chili sauce helps out. I miss the old location and the jar of cherry peppers that your could help yourself to and add to your sandwich, latter they would add crush cherry peppers to you sandwich and finally the disappeard. I asked on of the owners about it and he said they aren't coming back. too bad they were a nice additon to your sandwich.
the home cut french fries are very good but not your 'fast food frie" they are thick with the skin still on and more like a deep fried mashed potatoe, in a good way.....I like them
I've not ordered a salad in a long time but I remember it came in a plastic box and not really good for eating there......need to dump it out on a plate or bowl to enjoy it.
eating in there is fairly spartan although can eat oustside and watch the kihie traffic.....I think most of the business is take out.
the staff is always pleasant and the food comes out fairly quickly.........its a good value but not a place for a 'fancy dining experiance............
