“Best sushi ever”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

First of all, I've never been to Japan. That being said, I do adore sushi/sashimi (tend to avoid rolls 90% of the time) and probably eat it 3-4 times/month. We did our research prior to our early (7/3 - 7/11) July vacation and decided that we wanted to eat at Koisu twice during our stay, so we made two reservations--and it's a very good thing we did, because we witnessed numerous parties walk in without reservations and get turned away.

All I can say is that this is the best sushi I've ever eaten. I tried the hamachi kama (first time ever) which was a special during our second visit and it was excellent. We ordered a sashimi platter each visit and then supplemented it with numerous sushi/sashimis and were not the least bit disappointed. We didn't have any alcohol on either visit, and the check was between $75-$85 (before tip) each time and worth every penny. This may not be the best sushi place in Maui, or even Kihei, but we did have an opportunity to go to Sushi Paradise and we decided to honor our second reservation and eat here instead and are very glad we did. We sat at the bar both times and were served quickly/efficiently by the chef owner. He was cordial, but not overly-friendly, which was fine with us. We highly recommend this place and will most definitely visit it again next time we're in Maui. I'd give it 6 stars on a 5-point scale if I could.

“Best Sushi”
Reviewed May 21, 2013

We had never had sushi so fresh. It was like eating butter it was so tender. I don't think we will ever be the same eating sushi back home. It just won't compare! You do have to make reservations since seating is limited. Some have commented on the prices being very high and we found it to be very reasonable. $55 total for a Rainbow roll, Spicy Tuna roll, Red Snapper and Toro Tuna with tea and a beer. It is about the same if not less than what we pay in Atlanta at a nice sushi restaurant which doesn't even come close to the same quality as this place.

“Always a winner”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

We have eaten here a number of times and it is always a winner. Simple and fresh - plain and simple. Fish the way it is meant to be, from the ocean to your plate. Very quaint, small intimate setting where you will get to know your fellow diners. Just oustanding.

“Best sushi bar in Kihei”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

If you like a traditional style sushi, this is the spot in Kihei. Very small and intimate place, basically just a bar area with few tables. Great chef and the most amazing fish selection.

It is a choice spot for local connoisseurs and given that this is a rather tiny space it fills up pretty quickly, so reservations are required and it is a good idea to do it at least a day or two in advance.

“Best sushi on the island”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

This place has the best sushi on Maui. In fact it was probably the best sushi we have had outside of Japan.
