We very much enjoyed our stay in Unit 215. Other reviewers have detailed the excellent condition and amenities. Since we (2 sisters) were preparing the majority of our meals in the condo we especially appreciated how well equipped it was. Location across from Kamaole II beach was ideal. Only downside was the very noisy early mornings with garbage trucks and landscape workers starting around 7 a.m. However this would likely not deter us from again renting the same unit in the complex.

This was the second time that we stayed in the KKN complex. 2 years ago we were on the 2nd floor in the 2nd building. We enjoyed that unit but as it was unavailable we rented #142. This unit was terrific! It is on the ground floor in building 11 across from the pool and was quiet. It was very clean, updated and stocked with everything you could need. We liked dealing with the owners and the management company on Maui. We used vrbo to rent.
KKN is a lovely small complex within walking distance to lots of restaurants and 3 beaches. Each unit is privately owned so check carefully when booking. We were very happy both times. I hope this unit is available for our next trip to Maui!

Aloha we are frequent travelers to Maui who found a home in Kihei several years ago when we realized we could stay up to 2 weeks in Kihei for what the resort towns (Kaanapali and Wailea) charged for one week. We stayed at several complex's over the years, (Akahi, Banyans, Vista) but on our first stay at Kai Nani we felt the value and location to beach's and restaurants were exactly what we were looking for on our vacations. Through the years we have stayed at several units, I know many have changed ownership so I don't think its fair to mention their condition at the time.
In 2011 we met Mike and Clare in Maui and asked to see their unit #342. After seeing the unit and getting to know them we booked the unit for our end of September 2012 trip. We stayed for two weeks and felt like we had previously found our home vacation town, home complex, and now our home unit. We already loved the complex and absolutely loved this unit. It is a very clean and well kept unit with many quality furnishings throughout, it even has more kitchen accessories than we have at home!
The layout of all the units in the complex are virtually the same but the building location (middle back) make this a quiet building and the top floor location provides a private setting with full use of the large lanai (even in the rain as the roof keeps you dry) and provides a decent ocean view.

I booked our 2014 week last week and got a full list of questions asking what we thought of the condition of the condo on our September stay. I told Mike we loved it and he mentioned they had a review with some criticism so he wanted to know of any issues.
I wont comment on other reviews but I can say is we are seasoned Maui travelers and we plan to continue to make this our annual Maui vacation. It provides what we come to Maui for, peace and quiet, easy access to beach for walking, swimming, snorkeling and the occasional boogie boarding (less and less as we get older) and the great sunsets. We find ourselves traveling around the island less and staying at the condo more and we feel very comfortable here.

As for suggested improvements an elevator would be nice :) But that would cut down on the privacy and a larger TV (for football playoffs) would be nice but not necessary!

There are several good restaurants within close walking distance, Fred's, Moose's, both the 808 Deli and Bistro, Cafe O'lei and the best value on the island Subway with their monthly foot long special.

Room Tip: Buildings closer to the road may have better views but units middle to back are much quieter and may...

The rating is just for unit #275, not Kihei Kai Nani as a whole. We have stayed in 4 or 5 other units in the complex & were very pleased. However, this unit is in desperate need of some TLC - especially the shower/bath; the drapery; and the kitchen. As well, the upholstery was quite stained - it looked like people had been sitting in the chairs without their pants on : (
Also, there is no dishwasher or air conditioner in this unit, if that's important to you.
It's a shame, as this could be a really nice unit. It's on a corner at the back & is really private & gets some nice cross breezes.

Just returned and this place is recommended to those on a budget travel destination. It is a great location for those that choose not to rent a car, across from Kammole 2 beach where there are sea turtles and whales breaching out in the ocean to view.Close to a lot of amenities, steps to 3 mini malls and restaurants.Recommend CAFE O LEI,GREAT SEAFOOD;FRED'S MEXICAN AND MC CUDDY'S next door.Take the bus 4 doolars for a day pass, easy ride. The owners and renters here are repeat comers and friendly people. This is a laid back place, very comfortsble. It has a great pool and lounging area and a laundramat where you can access the pool while doing this necessity, pack lightly, there are plenty washers and dryers. This is a great place, you may not want to leave it except to watch the sunset on the wall across the street.ALOHA and MAHALO to Kai Nani residents. The trip for 2 weeks did not break the bank!

Room Tip: do your research many pics online

After spending 5 weeks in Unit # 342 all we can say is that 1 week or less would have been enough in this 1970's condo. Right from the start we could tell that there needed to be lots of updating and maintenance in this unit. Although the shower pressure was good, the clogged drain in the tub left you standing ankle deep in water. The TV changer volume control in the living room did not work and needed to be done manually most of the time. The TV in the bedroom was very old and tiny. Towels were well used, the mattress pad was badly stained, bedroom lamps were wobbly, beach chairs were threadbare, kitchen tap needed a screen to avoid water spraying everywhere, the lanai door was very hard to open, etc, etc. Needless to say, we will not return here in the future. Hopefully the owners will tend to these issues.

Room Tip: Check and compare with other units.

This review it is a real head scratcher for us. We had several conversations, by phone and email, with the guests while they were at the condo and by all indications they were having a great time in Maui with only the drain issue mentioned once. During a phone call during their last few days they did stress they had been “inconvenienced” during their stay with a Wifi system update and exterminator service (each building is serviced on a rotating basis roughly every three months) both services needed access to the unit. There was over a week notice given for both services and they refused to let the exterminator service into the unit. It felt like they were seeking some sort of discount for these services occurring during their stay so maybe they think the review is some sort of payback for not offering one.

I would like to note how other guests feel about our complex and unit, for the first half of 2014, 5 of our 7 booked guests are repeat guests with stays up to 21 nights.

As for the issues in this review, they sent us an email a few days into their stay about the shower draining slow, we told them we would call someone but if they would just make sure the drain trap was not clogged as sometimes it gets a buildup of sand and hair (which is what it is designed to keep out of the pipes), we got an email back saying they had cleaned out the drain and it was draining better. Through several emails during their trip on the island there was never another mention of this or any other issue.
We called during their last week to see if there were any other items they thought needed to be looked at as we were coming to Maui the day they left, they only mentioned that the mattress pad should be looked at before talking about being inconvenienced during their stay.

As for the other items mentioned:

-We have several sets of linens that get rotated as the cleaning service sets up for new guests and are replaced as needed. We post the number of our cleaning service and on island manager to address any issues that may arise. If a guest has an issue with linens they can be exchanged within a day. But no request was ever made, or any concern brought up during their stay.
-Upon arrival we did discover (since it had never been reported) that the volume down button on the remote did not work so we replaced it the next day.
-Bedroom TV is not a flat screen but has a sharp picture and is appropriate size for the room.
-The breeze flows from the bedroom into the rest of the condo which nicely cools the condo, sometimes the curtain will blow and spin the lampshade and make it loose. I hand tightened the lamp shade top correcting any “wobbly” condition.
-We replace the beach chairs annually at the end of our trip, the current chairs are perfectly usable but the zippers on the pouches at the back of the chairs have frayed.
-Kitchen tap did need a screen and installed a new one the day after our arrival.
-Lanai door, not sure of what the issue is, seems to be fine. It is a large slider, 8ft tall, maybe just heavier than they were used to.

To make sure we were not being one sided we called the two previous guests and asked them if they encountered any issues during their stay particularly the ones mentioned here.
The first guest noticed the kitchen faucet sprayed a little but didn’t feel it was important to note. They also watched part of a football game, the only time the TV was on, but didn’t notice any volume control issues.
The second guest noticed the zipper to the pouch on the beach chair was frayed and didn’t want to store items as they were carried to the beach but used the pouch once they were at the beach. Prior to our call they had booked a return trip for 2014.

We continually update the condo to make sure that it is comfortable; our complex and unit are popular due to its location and affordability. We correct any reported issues as quickly as we can and are sorry this guest did not appear to appreciate their stay.

We rented directly from the owner, though I'm sure working through the website is fine too. We love the Kihei area, so we were thrilled to rent a condo here. It's centrally located to everything we love.

I understand units vary but the unit we rented, #318, was excellent. It was stocked with lots of towels and beach toys (if you have kids) and even some beach chairs! It was so much more comfortable than staying in hotel. When we return to Maui this will be the first place we look.
