“Value and Convenience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

We're recently back from a month's stay in Unit 706. This was at least our eighth visit to HPH and we've always been happy with the accommodations. Where else can you put your coffee pot on, take a swim and be back before the coffee's ready? Compared to other beachfront properties the rates are reasonable. The location is within walking distance to grocery stores, restaurants (both eat-in and take-out), bars and shops. The pool is relatively small, but heated and very popular especially in the afternoon when the trade winds start howling. We saw numerous sea turtles every day just in front of the property. If you want a friendly place in an outstanding location, you won't go wrong staying here.

Hale Pau Hana Beach Resort, Kihei, Maui.

I extensively searched condo units on the internet –Yelp, Trip Advisor, VRBO, FlipKey, Maui Revealed, etc. I was seeking great beachfront location in the Kihei area for our 10th wedding anniversary. Central and southern Kihei were preferred. We had stayed in Lahaina previously, but never southern Maui.

After the initial long list was whittled down for location, exacting beach proximity, price, location features, etc., we selected Hale Pau Hana Beach Resort. The location, facility, grounds, cleanliness, and staff were all excellent - could not have asked for more. We specifically selected the second floor of the low-rise building which features 1+1 with full frontal beach and sunset view, the second floor gave us more privacy on the lanai from passers by.

The only drawback was that our unit (#17) is dated. Bed, spacious lanai, TV and internet service and some furnishings were great; carpet, blinds, bath, and dinky kitchen could all improve. AC is only in bedroom and ceiling fans and tropical breezes serve other areas. Unit was also rather small overall, fine for two.

Overall a real winner and a a great stay, we will return

Room Tip: Each room is individually owned and decorated – please view images for taste. The low-rise building...

This was a beautiful condo. We stayed in room 23, and had the most breath taking view. The condo is right off the beach, and was easy to access the beach from there. The pool was beautiful and you are able to see the sunset from the pool. We celebrated 10 years together and our honeymoon. Definitely would go back. If you stay here please try 808 deli right across the street, it is delicious. You can get a massage across the street as well at face place Right up the road is a food land as well to get all your groceries.

For our 25th wedding anniversary we stayed for 8 days in unit 701 in late July and early August 2013 . The condo was not fancy but suited us to a tee. There is nothing in Kihei that beats this location. Easy walk to many places to eat. A Whalers general store is right across the street. Inexpensive drinks at moose's a few blocks down. Why stay anywhere else!
We missed arriving on time due to Flossie and with no questions asked they fully refunded our first night rent. I saw at least two turtles just off shore out front each day. Being oceanfront and having the well kept grounds, chairs and pool all right there is a big convenience. We had a 1 bed 2 bath but I would not recommend that set up for two couples but a small family would work out ok. No noise problem from the road.

Stayed 5 nights in August 2013. Got room 22 (first floor, which sometimes is called 2nd - I mean it was not on the ground :-). Arrived at 11pm, without GPS I would have trouble finding it. But if you rent a car, that GPS is needed only for this 1st day, later it all becomes easy.

My apartment ("condo") was large (70+ sqm), one bedroom, small bathroom (too small actually), and a living room with a fully equipped kitchen (big fridge, oven, stoves, microwave, kettle, toaster, ...). There's a large balcony with a full-wall-size mirror on one wall (yes, I mean one wall is a mirror), which gives it an extra perception-depth. Nice touch, really liked it.

A/C is only available in the bedroom, for best performance bedroom door have to be closed. Other rooms you have ceiling fans (just keep them on full spin and you'll be OK).

Beach is just outside of the building, to get some suntan you can either take an on-grass frying-pan bed (I mean sunbeds :-) or go to the beach to get your feet burned. It's really nice, I have nothing to complain here. Water is clear and beautifully blue. See pics attached.

Cleaning (and towels, and soap bars, and ...) is provided Mon, Wed and Fri. So be careful.

Things I really didn't like:
1) Dishes and cutlery were dirty on arrival. Sure, you have a dishwasher but it kinda sucks.
2) Washing machine had a full-blown mold in it. Seems someone left water inside and closed the door. I tried to clean it as best as I could (wiping, running hot wash cycle with no load) before running my laundry, but still am a bit uneasy.

All in all, I'd recommend this place. More, I'd stay in it again.

Things to do around? (as sometimes it's hard to find a good excerpt on TA)
For snorkeling, use Suzzy Robinson (she's very high on TripAdvisor, look for "Activities in Kihei"), much better and more personal than other trips (and I've used other during my stay).
For cool sunsets, go to the top of the mountain. Remember to be there early (6pm?) as later it becomes flooded with tourists.
For cool ride, go West Maui, norhert route (30/340). Much more difficult - and spectacular, and empty - than road to Hana.
Hana is overrated. Soutern route to Hana is nicer than northern. Especially if you got 4x4 (not really needed but gives you those extra 10mph you can go).

Room Tip: I'd go for those 2-floor detached buldings, not the big one (6 floors?)

We stayed in apartment 601 for 6 days in July as part of our honeymoon trip and it was fantastic! Well equipped, clean and comfortable with an amazing view, we couldn't fault it. There is air con in the bedroom although it is quite loud, but that is a minor issue in what is a great place to stay. The towels are changed 3 times a week and separate beach towels are provided. Sun loungers on the grassy area are available and the beautiful beach is only meters away. Snorkelling first thing in the morning is wonderful. There are a number of options for eating out, from casual to more upmarket, within walking distance, and a supermarket a few miles away.
We got stranded on the island for an extra day due to the tropical storm and our flight being cancelled, but Kasper (the manager) was extremely helpful, checking flights for us and arranging a room for another night. It just reinforced for us what a wonderful place this is to visit!
