My husband and I recently did the Molokini Outrigger Canoe Challenge. What a great experience, from the initial customer service through to the completion of the tour. We launched from the beach in the light of the setting full moon then stopped to enjoy the spectacular sunrise out on the water, where we could also see the Big Island, Lanai, and Moloka'i off in the distance. We arrived at Molokini before all the tourist boats so had the place to ourselves for snorkeling. What a treat!!! We were able to stop at a couple of additional snorkel sites on the way back too and see underwater arches and many honu. The guides were great, informative, and fun. We also really appreciated the photos they shared afterwards. As advertised this isn't a trip for those who haven't paddled before, but we both have outrigger experience so absolutely loved it. We've already recommended HPS to friends on their way to Maui.

Outrigger canoe with Tim was incredible. You could not have planned it any better. We left the beach from the Ritz and can into a school (pod) of dolphins before we arrived in Honolua bay.
We were ten feet from beautiful turtles at the cleaning station while snorkeling. It exceeded any expectations that we could have had! Will do it again next time we are back!

Aloha! Just reading through some of our review and came across yours. OH how I can't wait until the summer comes again and we can start launching from the Ritz heading up to Honolua Bay for some amazing snorkeling and sightseeing. The turtle cleaning station up there is absolutely amazing and I appreciate you taking the time to leave a review of your Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe Tour!
OH and the DOLPHINS!! I miss them too:)

My mom and I had a fantastic experience with Hawaiian Paddle Sports this morning and we are still buzzing about it now, hours later!

After trying SUP for the first time outside our hotel in Wailea a few days ago (a mediocre experience- it was crowded & the boards were hard to balance on, among other issues), we decided to give it another try and signed up with HPS. We chose them over other tour groups in Kihei, because they launched from Makena, a less-congested area, and offered more personal attention than the other tours. From the start, we were extremely pleased with their service: prompt return calls and the people on the phone were so nice, knowledgeable and helpful.

We met at 8am at Makena Landing, where Tim gave us a quick-but-thorough instructional intro (his technique tips were great! They made maneuvering the boards so much easier). Andy was joining us as an extra guide today, and he was super helpful and fun throughout the tour as well! We took off right from the beach, which was nice, sandy- an easy launch point. They took great care of us, carrying our flip-flops back to the car after we walked down the little rocky path to the sand (and bringing them back down for us later when it was time to walk back up) and wonderful little details like that.

Once in the water, we spent a little time getting accustomed to the boards (which were amazingly-easy to stand on!) and then paddled off up the coast a bit. It's absolutely gorgeous down there and we saw so many turtles. Some of them swam right up to us and popped their heads up next to our boards- so charming! There were a couple small tour boats on the water with us, but it was not crowded at all and we felt like we were in our own little world most of the time.

Tim was the perfect mix of fun and informational - he was full of information and always professional, but also entertaining and relaxed. He knows so much about Hawaiian culture and the environment/animals and passes the information on in a way that is fascinating and not at all like a lecture. He somehow managed to effortlessly shoot the breeze with us, keep an eye on both of us, help us improve our SUP technique and educate us about the culture/environment, all at the same time. Oh, and he was also taking pictures of us the whole time too, which we loved! He sends you a link to the pictures later and you can download them all for free! And I’m not sure if it’s the scenery or his photography skills (we’ll say the latter), but the pictures somehow seemed to capture our bronzer, fitter, more athletic alter-egos as well – what’s not to like?!

The time passed so quickly and before we knew it 2 hours had passed and it was time to head in. Although waking up early seems like it might be painful (especially if you’re like me and aren’t a morning person), but starting on the flat water was the perfect way to learn and it was a great way to start the day (leaving time for other activities later!). My mom, who is not the first to like water sports, adored it and I, who am the opposite and love being in the water, loved it as well! It was such a reasonable price for such a personalized, beautiful, fun tour and we cannot wait to do it again! We cannot recommend it enough and will definitely be signing up with HPS again when we return to Maui! Thank you Tim and Andy for an amazing time!

We loved our experience with Hawaiian Paddle Sports. The customer service was very good, the guides were excellent. We went kayaking and snorkeling with Donnie from McKenna Landing and wound up not only swimming with turtles but also dolphins (Donnie was flipping out and said dolphins were a rarity in the area). Then we took surfing lessons with Chyna. She had us (husband and wife in mid 40s) surfing small waves in less than 30 minutes. On both tours, we also had guides in training who were also great. Highly recommend this outfit.

I participated in the canoe outrigger tour and snorkel with Tim. They accommodated me on short notice and helped to find the activity site. Tim gave a great history regarding the area in which we were touring, spoke about the Hawaiian alphabet, culture nuances amongst natives and other groups as well as the behaviors of the marine life. He made sure that we saw sea turtles engaging in their daily activities and pointed out a bunch of tropical fish. This tour was the BEST activity that I did in Maui. Highly recommended!

"this tour was the BEST activity we did in Maui" well I think that about sums it up:) We absolutely LOVE hearing our guest say this. If I had a dime for every time a guide said "we've been coming to maui for years and this is our favorite activity" we'd be rich!! Worse yet though is when we hear "we've been coming to maui for years and we've never heard any of this information about Hawaiian Culture" we are happy to share this information and passion for Hawaii but it still makes us sad to hear that people have to come to HAWAII for years before hearing anything about the HAWAIIAN culture. A hui hou!
