We recently spent two wonderful weeks in Hawaii and just had to write a review on 808 Bistro in Kehei. With all the restaurants to visit and try we ended up at Bistro 3 times but would have been just as happy to eat there every night. Let's start with service. Lee (Lea?) (hope I got that right) was our server and she was just great. Always attentive, smiling and genuinely happy to be serving you, she even went as far as to move us to a better table without us saying a word (meaning view of the sunset) after we had already dirtied the cutlery at the table we were presently at. I should mention that this restaurant is outdoors surrounded by greenery and tucked in behind two other more visable ones. We would not have noticed it there and only discovered it because of a recommendation by someone else. Next, the food. It comes piping hot. This may seem like it should be a given but we had a few experiences at other restaurants where the food had obviously been sitting and was tepid at best. Since we were there three times and we made a point to both order something different we were able to try a few things out. Seafood pasta was delicious as was the maui maui. Panko crusted chicken with herb goat cheese was rich but very tasty and moist. Short ribs were excellent with (my husband is sort of an expert on short ribs) just the right amount of sauce as not to be overbearing. This all comes with a delicious (and hot out of the oven) crispy focacia bread served with balsamic and honey butter. Yum! This restaurant is also BYOB. Wow, if you are wine lovers as my husband and I are you have no idea how much this can affect the bill. We easily dined out on great food in a lovely setting for around the $50.00 to $60.00 dollar mark (we ordered caesar salad beforehand). If you are really watching your pennies, they have a special from 5:00 to 6:00 that is $25.00 per person and includes salad, main and desert. I would definitly recommend this restaurant if you are in the Kehei area. The travelled the entire island eating at least two meals per day out and 808 Bistro was the standout. I should note that we never had room for dessert but they looked really good when passing by our table.
