“Great Tacos”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

Every Tuesday Fred's has Taco's on special and they're quite tasty. You have quite a few different ones to choose from. I had the Shrimp, grilled fish, steak, & Buffalo chicken tacos and they were all good.

This is not a Gourmet Mexican restaurant, but the food is decent and very reasonable in price. Cool atmosphere.

My family of 4 ate here twice on our trip to Maui and enjoyed it each time. If you go on Tuesday, be prepared to wait. We had to wait 45 minutes for a table.

“Delicious food and fantastic location”
Reviewed April 9, 2013 via mobile

We ate at Fred's four times in three weeks. It is a great way to start your day - sitting on the open patio looking out over the ocean and having the breeze blow. Breakfast I would recommend is the Hawaiian French toast with warm bananas, coconut syrup sprinkled with macadamia nuts. We had two for one coupons which makes it a great deal. Fred's is also a great way to end your day in Maui- looking out over the ocean and watching the sunset. We enjoyed both the tacos and fajitas. Service was excellent - very chatty, friendly servers. We didn't mind a short wait for an outside table as you wait outside, sitting on a stone wall overlooking the ocean. Can't get much better than that!

“Quite disappointing this time”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

We have eaten at Fred's a few times and were very disappointed with the quality of our meal. We ordered the beef/carne strips with corn tortillas. The beef was tough and chewy and the guacamole had way too many onions in it- my son didn't even want to try it this time. We left disappointed but hope that it was just a 'bad order' of beef...

“half locals and tourists”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

You can't beat the atmosphere...welcoming of teenagers....the locals...the sunsets....the UNBELIEVABLE margaritas....come in from the beach at lunch full of sand...or have a sorta dressy outfit on for supper...it is what you want it to be..

Been going to this location for over 28 years...Fred's fits this location perfectly.

“Quality Has Taken A Back Seat”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

We have been long time patrons of Fred's Mexican Cafe in Kihei. We would make a point to go to Taco Tuesday because we love the tacos and drink specials. Taco Tuesday is very popular amongst the locals and visitors, so there is usually a long wait for a table. (45 minutes to over an hour) The last couple of months we have been underwhelmed by the tacos and the service. Our most recent visit two weeks ago was the worst. We arrived at 4:15 and were quoted a 15 minute wait. We waited 40 minutes. We ordered our usual tacos, but they weren't prepared properly. My husbands Pollo Asado taco had no sauce on it. My Pollo Asado taco had the wrong sauce on it. (The tomatillo sauce is fantastic, instead mine had enchilada sauce - Yuk) Our server was indifferent at best. I asked a bus boy to send the manager over to our table he said okay. After 20 minutes, no one came over and we hadn't seen our server. I asked the hostess if we could speak to the manager. The manager was very apologetic and offered to comp us for the two tacos, but we had already paid the bill and weren't looking for a freebie. We just felt management needed to know about the misquote on the wait time and the quality of the food coming out of the kitchen. Since we had not enjoyed the food for several visits, we've decided that Fred's is off our list of places to eat.
