The +ve: the trip was well organised, good food, etc. The -ve: This is advertised as a birding trip but overall we spent way too much time driving and nowhere near enough time on the ground, especially at Hosmer Grove which is the primary site to visit for rarities. The Kealia pond is easy to reach for anyone, is free, and open 5 days a week. Make the day longer and spend more time actually birdng not just driving. Overall, this was a tourist birding trip not a birders birding trip. Think of it as a taster but not the main course. The local history and legend spiel was ok, but much of the forestry and ecology spiel was factually incorrect (it just happens to be what I do for a living). Overall, disappointing.

I found out about this tour through Instagram as they started following me and commented that I should come on a bird tour. Great networking!
I decided it was worth it to relax and let someone else take care of the day. It was a blast! Saw 30 different bird species! Our guide Delphine was so awesome. She made sure everyone's needs were met at all times and that everyone was on the same page. She told us some cool Hawaiian legends and was great at finding birds for us! Lunch was great and healthy. What a wonderful way to spend a day in Maui!

My wife and I joined a birding tour led by Delphine with Explore Maui Nature. She pinpointed the birds we were hoping to see, along with addition information on the flora, fauna, history and legends of Maui. Delphine is engaging, knowledgeable, and just plain fun. In addition, she models sustainable tourism, serving a first-class lunch with real plates, silverware, and cloth napkins! Good job, Delphine!
