“Best bed and breakfast on Maui”
Reviewed February 6, 2006

We had a wonderful time at it's a wonderful life! The rooms were clean and spacious and breakfast was top notch. The hosts were gracious with a deep understanding of local resturaunts, nightlife and natural attractions. The other guests all had a great time and we were like one big happy family sitting out on the porch every morning planning our day and enjoying our breakfast. If you go to Maui, IAWL is the place to stay. My husband and I will be back next christmas!

Stayed here on part of our honeymoon.

The photos on the website must be doctored - they looked MUCH nicer than the actual room.

The host was out of town at the time and left the care of the B&B and guests to her surfer dude son that could have cared less. He was having a dinner party with his friends when we arrived, and everyone looked at us like we'd interrupted as he handed us the keys.

We were also informed that no breakfast would be served and no discount was given. Only after asking several times were we told that we could go across the street to another Bed and Breakfast to eat. We were just sent over there - and once again, we felt like we were intruding.

Be aware that this b&b is in the middle of a neighborhood that looked reminiscent of a Florida suburb. It is not secluded in anyway. And also, there is really nothing of interest in Kehei. Had we known this, we wouldn't have stayed there.

The son must have had some illness, because we heard hom coughing, hacking, and sneezing in his apartment all night. We could also hear his phone conversations.

But the worst of it was the mosquito problem. Somehow, we had a swarm of mosquitos everynight. We never left our doors or windows open, but they somehow got in and we were rudley awoken to these creatures buzzing in our ears. We had to literelly get out of bed and COAT our bodies with bug spray. Not very romantic on your honeymoon.

We didn't enjoy our stay here at all.

My honey and I loved the hosts, the other guests, the view from the deck and the value of having our own little appartment with kitchen.
However. We loved the gourmet breakfasts too, untill I failed to heed the hosts warning. I was stuffing myself on a wonderful little fruit/soufle concoction when I asked what in it. She said "you don't want to know" This happened 2 more times then she told me. Big mistake. No wonder I didn't get hungry untill 2 PM after eating these things! They must have a 1,000 calores at least!
Go there, enjoy yourself, but don't ask about the ingredients of her great breakfasts.

What a wonderful place! The nicest place we stayed in this trip! The bed was AWESOME! We stayed 2 nights in the garden suite which was really a one bedroom apartment. The screen door is still broken but did not really impact us. Bedroom with pillowtop mattress was great, the bathroom had a powerful shower, the living room with TV, futon and chair were more than adequate and we really only used the small refridgerator in the kitchen. There were chairs, boogie boards and snorkel gear on the lanai for guests to use. We missed breakfast the first morning but joined in on the second. It is served on a beautiful open air lanai, just breathtaking. We thought it was a continental breakfast and were full from that when Eva served up cheese crepes with fruit--yummy!! I think it is too far to walk to the beach carrying beach stuff but there is fairly easy parking all along the beaches so just drive. Would definitely stay there again.

My husband and I went to Maui for 6 nights in January and stayed in the Garden Suite at What a Wonderful World Bed and Breakfast. Overall, our experience was good. Indeed, this is not a fancy place, but for the price and location you really can't beat it. We were on the go so much that most mornings we only enjoyed the continental part of the breakfast (granola cereal, fruit). Two mornings I was able to be around for Eva's breakfast and both were very tasty. Eva and her husband are wonderful, laid back hosts.

As far as the room itself, it had a fridge that came in very handy for leftovers. Most times we ate out, so other than the microwave, we never had much use for any of the other kitchen amenities (burners, toaster, coffee machine, etc). The screen door leading out to the garden was broken, which was a bit annoying. The first day there Eva mentioned that she was going the next day to get a new one, but it hadn't been replaced by the time we left. They are currently fighting a pest problem with mice and cockroaches, which are common on the island. This was the primary complaint we had as we had encounters with both the cockroaches in the bathroom and a mouse running across the floor giving us a good fright. Indeed the hosts are aware of this as there is a mouse trap/poison and cockroach traps in several places in the suite. And don't drop crumbs as you will have really tiny ants all over the floor in a few hours. These pests are common in the islands and you can find them at even the nice resorts, though the problem could likely be lessened with regular visits by a pest control specialist.

All in all, I would recommend What a Wonderful World Bed and Breakfast for the price conscious traveler. Likely you will have a wonderful time just being in Maui, regardless of where you stay and at least here breakfast is included in the rate.

It is not a fancy place but we had everything we needed – clean room, fridge in the room, TV and VHS, snorkeling gears, beach towels… The common area and the lanai were great places to relax. The host and hostess were very hospitable and even their friends were friendly. We wanted to borrow a wine opener but the one in the B&B was broken. One of their neighbors who happened to be there went back to his place and brought one over. We felt very welcome at this place and would recommend it to our friends

Planning our vacations in Maui, we took contact with the owners to know the rates and availabilities. Unfortunately for us, the hosts said that they will not be on site during our stay and that no breakfast will be delivered during that period. No special discount was proposed.

On top of that, they announced in their reply the rates as published on their website will rise of 20% in 2005 and we have to accept it.

I tried to negociate anything special that might apply due to this special situation. The reply was: "I am sorry but I can not accommodate your stay with us". Very disappointing!!!

Considering the business is done is dangerous and I advice all guests to ask for details regarding the rate proposal.
