“Unit 604”

The location and the unit were fine but upon arrival the elevator did not work and we had to lug all our luggage up six flights of stairs. That and the unit has Roaches!!! Called Alii Property management who said they would spray and asked us to leave for an hour. When we returned there was a note on the counter that said 'this unit has never had roaches, here are a few bait boxes to place where you saw them'. The roaches are on the bedroom walls, in both bathrooms, one ran in to the bedroom closet and are all over the kitchen: cooktop, sides of cupboards. It's disgusting!!

We have stayed at Kamaole Nalu multiple times, in units 606, 105, 104.
You can't beat the location for the price. Each unit is the same layout, but
some have been updated with the kitchen enlarged. It is an an older complex,
and the pool is starting to show it's age. On site management is great. Tom (manager)
keeps everything orderly without being obtrusive or overbearing. It is
VERY windy in the afternoon, so beach time is enjoyed in the morning. The orientation
of this building blocks the afternoon wind, so you can be in the pool. If you are
a late sleeper, and want some beach time, then this is not the location (Kihei) for you.

We have stayed in 606 at Nalu for a few years running and love it. The unit sits on the very top corner and it feels like you're sitting right over the ocean when on the balcony. It works well for us because the two bedrooms are quite separate and each have access to their own bathroom making it easy to have a good night's rest on family holidays!
The main advantage of 606 as opposed to one of the units closer to the road 101/102 - 601/602 is that traffic at night can be very loud. In 606, you only hear the waves.
Something to be aware of is that in the afternoon in Kihei, from about midday, the wind can come along! Wow it howls through 606 if you have the windows open. But shut them and sit on the balcony and you're protected from the wind and can enjoy the afternoon watching the action below.
The best thing about Nalu HAS to be the grassy area on the front. It almost touches the sea and is just beautiful for reading and relaxing. A great area for kids as well, and adjoins the pool which is great for a dip when the winds are too strong for the sea.
The building is close to the kihei shops and restaurants, which is great, not to mention some fantastic snorkelling right below 606, from where you can see the turtles nudging the rocks below.

Room Tip: 606 offers wonderful views and peace from the road noise that you will experience in rooms ending wi...

We just spent 2 wonderful weeks in unit 106 at the Nalu. This was our 5th annual stay. In reading some of the other reviews we agree with some and definitely not with others. For example, the building is fairly old but the units are very nice( at least 106 & 206 are as we've stayed in them. The units all have ocean views and the building is literally a 20 ft walk on lawns to the beach. Very good snorkeling and viewing of turtles, dolphins, whales and rays( plus the occasional seal) right in front of you. It is best to stay as far from the street as possible due to noise but they do cost less, you can relax on the numerous lawn chairs, and it is usually very quiet after 9 pm anyway. Right across the street there is a small grocery store, several other stores, great cinnibuns, an ice cream store with 50 flavors, a Denny's, Cafe Olei for nicer dinner fare etc

Someone mentioned the resident Manager Tom and said he doesn't seem to do very much! This couldn't be more wrong. We saw him every day-7 days a week-starting around 5:30 am cleaning the pool, cleaning the BBQ's, cutting the lawns or watering them and the plants and flowers, weeding, planting new flowers etc etc. We thought he did an excellent job. Some people seem to want to complain about something all the time. We love staying there and have already booked for next year

Just returned from staying at Kamaole Nalu # 506. Unfortunately it was only for 5 nights! Whereas the building is somewhat "tired" the condo is fantastic. It's located on the 5th floor (one down from the top) and literally hangs over the beach and ocean. Watching all the ocean activity and sunsets couldn't get any better. The condo has been extensively renovated and tastefully done. I doubt any other unit in the complex would show better.

if you like street noise, a grumpy on site manager, dirty common areas, a business center from the stone age(it was free though), a remote management company for this unit(304) Alii Resorts, that struggles to provide decent service but fails to deliver, then this is the place for you!

I spent the last week at Kamaole Nalu with my parents, brother and grandfather in a two-bedroom unit. It's a fantastic location (right on Kamaole II, with good snorkeling immediately outside the building on the rocks to the right of the beach and a huge expanse of sand and calm water). We had stayed at the Hale Pau Hana next door before, so we knew we'd love the beach.

Kamaole Nalu is a little rough around the edges but is a great place to stay for the price. Here are my pros and cons:

PROS
+Right on a great swimming, snorkeling and paddleboarding beach
+Close to shops, restaurants, a surfing beach, other nice beaches, etc.
+The price is right
+Enough space for the family
+All decks have ocean views
+Comes with beach towels
+Washer and dryer (so so nice not to be lugging around stinky beach towels the whole trip)
+Best cinnamon rolls in the world located across the street, as well as other good restaurants
+Very attentive, kind and helpful management staff
+Kitchen allows for cooking of own meals, a huge cost saver

CONS
-Lots of street noise! (esp. if in unit closest to South Kihei Road -- bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper!)
-Building doesn't look super nice
-Small kitchen
-Dated interior decorations

Basically, the location is fantastic, but if you want a resort look and feel and resort amenities, stay in a resort (but be prepared to pay roughly three times as much). If a simple but very satisfactory, conveniently located condo on a great beach at a good price is what you're looking for, Kamaole Nalu is a safe bet.

Room Tip: Ask to be as far away from South Kihei Road as possible!
