“This is what $140 gets you?!”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

I get it. Maui is expensive. But a hotel charging $140 should still have some basic standards. I've stayed at Motel 6 hotels that were nicer than this one. There were holes in the walls, and the entire property looks run down and dirty.

This was a centrally located, clean hotel and the staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful. I felt safe the entire time I was there and enjoyed the convenience of the hotel shuttle. Breakfast was very good every day. The staff truly lived the Aloha spirit.

Room Tip: I enjoyed a garden room with a lanais. Very quiet and beautiful setting.

Lodging on Maui is expensive; even in the not-so-touristy town of Kahului. We decided on the cheapest option we could get, the Maui Beach Hotel. I can honestly say I didn’t love the hotel, but I also can’t say that I disliked it. It was just…okay.

The room is adequate and clean. A.C., flat screen, desk, bed, mini fridge, the usual. The bathroom was probably the only thing I didn’t particularly care for. The bathroom door had wood slats on them which I thought were absolutely seeing. With no vent fan in the B-room and basically narrow holes on the B-room door it could potentially be not fun for people having a rough B-room time (and the people using the sink right next to the B-room door). As I have mentioned in other hotel reviews, I’m not a fan of the door hole phenomena. In other B-room news, the soap shelf in the shower fell off the wall and onto the floor while my wife & I were out of the room. Glad that didn’t happen when we were in the there cause that shelf is SOLID. Since I thought it was unnecessary to fix right away, I just asked them if they could fix it after we checked out. They said okay.

Don’t get me wrong, this is not a bad hotel. The people were nice and it was perfectly fine. Just know that it doesn’t aim to be fancy, but a cheaper alternative for locals and people not feeling they need to be submerged in tourist traps. It has a great location right across the street from Ka’ahumanu Mall and a Foodland and the highway leading to the airport, Kihei, & Lahaina.

We stayed at the Maui Beach 3 nights. Very clean & affordable. The people that work there were kind and showed the aloha spirit. My only complaint is the pool needs to stay open longer! Mahalo Maui Beach.

We decided to stay the night by the airport since we were getting in after 10pm. It was cheap and cleanish but the beds are really terrible and so are the pillows. Only a stopover hotel, nothing else.

Room Tip: I don't think it really makes a difference.

I just returned from a trip from Maui with my son's middle school. We stayed at this hotel for a couple days. The hallways had a bad smell and our room had ants and bugs. The AC was just terribly loud which made it hard to sleep and clearly was an older model which sounded the same no matter what setting you had it on. A couple of our chaperones entered their room and immediately detected a moldy smell and became ill within minutes. This is a old hotel but is clearly not up to standards of even being a decent hotel. The only good thing about this stay was the buffet breakfast that was set up for us and the kids which was substantial. I suffered from headaches and body aches while in the room that seemed to resolve once we were out and about.

Room Tip: I can't add a tip because I think the hotel has a serious mold problem.

We stayed the first part of our trip at the Hyatt on Kaanapali and the last few days at the Maui Beach Hotel. We definately liked the Maui Beach hotel better!!! Air conditioning worked....the staff were truly wonderful.....just an overall better experience! Yes the hotel is "older", but the people working there make ALL the difference. :)
